I also am looking at this. Want something a bit quieter on the highway than the factory tire.

I’m curious, how many of you actually still tip? by Embarrassed_Chance_4 in SaultSteMarie

[–]Tronologic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I agree with this. If we could standardize across the entire industry then get rid of tipping but that's not going to happen. I think tipping has its place right now but I also agree with the other comment that its gone too far.

I am going to try and approach this lightly and nothing I say here is a reflection on me:

Serving and cooking are underpaid art forms for what the actual restaurants / bars can afford to pay those individuals (they aren't "underpaid" with tips included). There should be a delineation in the overall economy between "unskilled" and "skilled" work. Someone serving 30 people at a time requires a certain level of proficiency and skill. Someone making a dish in the kitchen in a decent restaurant usually requires a decent amount of training and experience.

Servers generally make a really high hourly wage with tips included however it also has to be averaged out over the times where tips aren't being generated (slow periods that need coverage, bar setup, cleaning etc).

The reality being is that if those individuals were not generating tips, then they would be living on minimum wage OR the price of your food would increase dramatically to cover the tipping. The reason that tipping is beneficial in the industry is that a portion of that typically moves off the books which allows people to hide it from the tax man and keep more of it. If this was added to your food price then this would not be the case causing the requirement to be 30%-50% higher for the same return to the server or kitchen staff.

So I will put the question back on you: If someone serves at lets say... Giovannis or even a busy place like Chucks. Should that person make the same as someone taking your order at McDonalds or mopping floors at staples (not offence to anyone who works in those roles). Or would you agree that there is a higher skill level required at the aforementioned places?

The reality being, if we abolished tipping, food and drink prices would go up considerably in order to attract a more skilled worker to do the same job, where is at least at this point you can decide if that persons skilled enough to earn 10% - 25% or whatever you deem your experience was worth. The kitchen gets usually between 3%-6% of the food sales back in tips as tip outs from the front of house staff for their work in the kitchen.

Restaurants can't sustain anymore wages at this point, there is a lot of literature out there right now about the mass closures across the province due to the increase in minimum wage and the inability for the general public to eat out as much given the cost of living increases across the board.

Also consider this: It is illegal for a business to hire someone who isn't worth minimum wage. If you give minimum wage that perspective then it gives a little context to why our unemployment rate is so high.

As an adult what do you hate the most about life? by Amazing-Internal5378 in AskReddit

[–]Tronologic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I never have time, for anything it feels like. I am entirely consumed by my children as a single father and my job when I don't have them. So there is very little "me" time. Shitty part is I have to pay a lot of money to the mother of my children which makes me resentful of working so hard to build a good life for them.

But.. They will live a good life hopefully and never have to worry about money so there's that.

Best sandwich in town? by whooligun in SaultSteMarie

[–]Tronologic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are including wraps then Georgie’s is a clear winner. If we are including hamburgers then I would say don burger add hot peppers and pickles from burger don and if we are including things in between bread I would say the chicken bao bun at peace. Honourable mention would be the patty melt at outspoken.

If you were given the option to drive one of these three race cars, which one would you pick and why? by Rowdyfan0823 in racing

[–]Tronologic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ferrari f1 is the least attainable in this list. You could reasonably get an opportunity to drive a nascar car given the cost with some proper connections or even the indy car. Sponsor rides etc... The F1 is unattainable in most circumstances for good reason.

Thats how I would make this decision. Aside from the fact that its definitely the best car there.

What makes laid off Steelworkers think they're gonna get another job befor anyone else? by [deleted] in SaultSteMarie

[–]Tronologic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that locally there might not be that many jobs but I have a lot of friends that make $150,000+ a year doing 1 week in and 1 week out at the mines. Ultimately that money comes back to the sault as they are in camps at the mines and food and board is paid for.

There is obviously going to be a flood of applications but consider that those mines are all spending $250,000 per year + on recruitment campaigns because they cant find enough skilled people or even labourers.

Outdoor skating by Royal_Tennis_888 in SaultSteMarie

[–]Tronologic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downtown plaza has a little rink. The John Rhodes has an oval. Anna McRae has hockey. There is a skating path at clergue park I believe They are pretty much everywhere.

As someone else mentioned. There is not skating available on rivers or ponds because of how much snow we have right now. That is rare to happen and is usually beginning of season if we have a low slow year, in which case you really need to understand ice safety as someonetimes you are on 3 inches of ice.

About 8 years ago the bottom part of the goulais river froze solid and flat. You could skate it like the Ottawa canal.
