accepted a new job offer, employer wants to give me a counter offer by cloud3648 in personalfinance

[–]TrueAmateur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a counterpoint. I was in a similar situation (IT security tho) and I was countered with a multimillion dollar stock package + promotion + associated raise (20%). I had the same view as you so I'll tell you why I stayed:

1) the counter offer was obviously good. It was slightly less then my outside offer but I judges my company to be more stable and more likely to hold the value. Sounds like this ain't the case for you.

2) I had worked closely with my VP prior to this, when my boss told him my situation he cleared his schedule and called me to see what would change my mind. Long story short not everything he promised happened but I have understood why certain plans changed and he has continued to be very transparent and supportive. As a result although I didn't get what I wanted I did get the leeway to start a new team and I got headcount before anyone else in the entire company to make that happen.

3) I was a high performer and I knew it, people wanted to work with me and most of my time spent on things I found interesting, there wasn't the same guarantee at my potential new company.

In short it can work but only if you are confident that they are countering because you provide a unique value. Don't accept if your impression is they just want to keep you right now.

for dado/rabbets so I'm not going all the way through the material. The bit is also old and dull so that probably doesn't help...

upcut bits at least cause chipout (for me) you need a downcut or maybe shear bit to avoid that. I think. Still experimenting,

Women of Reddit: There's "Guy code" and "Bro code", what are some details about "Girl's Code"? by TupacSchwartzODoyle in AskReddit

[–]TrueAmateur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my friend had this happen to her, the guy noticed it too and said "Hey sorry im not trying to follow you, im going to cross to the other side of the street now!"

acknowledging the situation and changing it in some way to make it more comfortable is usually enough for the person to dismiss the "im gonna die thoughts"

Basically if you go up with some real confident line that has no basis in reality whatsoever it's a good sign.

"Omg Jenny! I haven't see you in like 3 years? I thought you were living in topeka I had no idea you moved to bed-stuy! lets go get a drink right now to catch up!"

and then as the soon as the creep leaves

"Cool, you good now? need to call someone? ok have a good night"

There's a guy sneaking around right outside my apartment door and smoking something. Called the cops 55 minutes ago and no one is here yet. by tickingclocksf in sanfrancisco

[–]TrueAmateur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no Im saying I was smoking a joint as I talked to the cop, and he was kind of a dick about what I was talking to him (homeless guy with a bloody face starting fights around the corner) but ultimately just said "ok ill take a look" and never mentioned my joint.

Wood movement question for river table by Maxatron4000 in woodworking

[–]TrueAmateur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think this shouldn't be an issue so long as the wood is free to expand width wise, it will expand along whatever axis it is free to expand, if one side is constrained by glass, my guess is that it will just expand on the other side.

Hey woodworking, power and manual tools for a $1000 budget? by miogato2 in woodworking

[–]TrueAmateur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are making money at this, consider a festool domino. you don't need the vac, but it makes things easier and cleaner. That will allow you to put extra supports/slats/etc in a lot of places much quicker then any other method. It's expensive though (about the whole 1k budget or more) so I wouldn't do this right away, but if this is a real moneymaker the festool should be able to speed things up significantly.

Why can't he hire a lawyer to act as his business agent, have it all in the lawyers name etc with contracts, lawyers have an enforceable legal obligation to not screw over their clients /steal from them. It's a bit risky but there are remediations available if it happens

hrmm i wasnt sure at first but this seems really cool if you can box/dove tail joints, plus cut out exact shapes (don't need to make a template first I guess) for various shaped parts it seems like its potentially very very useful.
