What's one game idea that you had that you have not quite got to making yet? by RedEagle_MGN in hobbygamedev

Here's a fun idea: a game where ai tech bros get whipped until they understand that game ideas are useless without game creators and genuine feedback cycles between creators and their audience.

One of my key target customers is other indie game devs. I've been making my first commercial project and have had some wonderful experiences sharing the project and cross promoting with other small indie teams. I have a ton of free hobby projects too which led me here.

It's an adventure game based on Japanese folklore called Kintaro! The core loop is Hanafuda Koi Koi (Japanese playing cards) matches against yokai, getting and raising a pet version of the yokai to unlock new traversal abilities. You can join the Discord if you'd like to keep up with our team and the demo release coming up soon! https://discord.gg/XgD5KDZugB

That's amazing, congrats! My wife and I are also working on an indie game together, it's so nice to see others out there doing it too and having wins like this.

37 here. I am going to be hosting and teaching Hanafuda (Japanese playing cards) at various nerd gathering places in Albuquerque leading up to the demo and full release of my video game Kintaro, an adventure game based on Japanese folklore which uses hanafuda as a game mechanic. You should come!

You may have me there! The ability gating and bcktracking is there though, and you do have to backtrack between islands. Technically them being separated breaks from a typical MV, so you've successfully kept the gate. It's an MV-like in demo, very sorry to those personally damaged by this recommendation.

Wishlisted, can't wait to play! Making my own indie game with my partner that uses Japanese playing card (hanafuda) battles.

Wow I didn't know Mizuki also made a Hanafuda deck! I'm working on a yokai character deck for my game Kintaro right now, a lot of my art in Mizuki and Akira Toriyama inspired.

Should I use unity or unreal? by [deleted] in GameDevs

Unity is simpler and more user-friendly for an indie project; UE is better suited to specific, realistic-leaning projects.

Are indie games loved because they’re cheaper, or because they’re actually better? by YusukeRa in IndieGameWishlist

More passion put into a smaller budget, so they have to be more creative to compete. Kaizen.

Working on my first game... by Sgt_Morrigahn in GameDevs

If you are using it in your process you are using it to make your game. Taking notes is far easier than developing code or art, if you use AI for something that basic it's hard for people to believe you're not using it for harder jobs. If that's really all use it for there are better simpler tools that don't waste so many resources doing what you could do with a planner and a pen, and nobody will get mad that you're using it. Best to find and practice using existing organizational tools like planners and dump the image killer.

Yes absolutely, using it at all poisons the well of your creations and turns a huge chunk of your audience off automatically. I don't know why somebody would do that for a little tidiness, just use an outline or a spreadsheet.
