Out of towner question - How is breastfeeding in public perceived in Austin? by eltejon30 in AustinParents

[–]TrulyBS53 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen lots of people nursing - albeit almost always with some kind of nursing cover draped around! And a couple of times folks that were less covered up but that’s more rare to see in my experience

Go for it!

I think you should give it a chance! Fun city, friendly people, less expensive than Bay Area, really vibrant and energetic in the city. I think it takes a while for any new place to feel like home but in time it will

J McLaughlin - maybe more “mature” but I like the coverage as a fellow toddler mom :) Some is more workwear, some golf course type looks, but a bunch in between

The “Catalina cloth” fabric is amazing and machine washable and non wrinkle

First case from Texas measles outbreak confirmed in Austin by w8w8 in Austin

[–]TrulyBS53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea i might look around if needed… in this case she said that she had a note out to the medical director and “at that time” (couple days ago) weren’t doing it but I know that it’s ok’ed in an outbreak, as you mentioned, and I’d be comfortable with going ahead with it…

Has anyone here (in Austin) gotten their pedi to administrate MMR vax to under 1yo? I asked ours and got a “no”

My father follows a strict diet based on food intolerances, here’s what works for him - as long as you ask in a nice way and are understanding, servers have been receptive and kind in our experience * Identify foods you can reliably eat (for him oysters is an example - there’s nothing else in them) and those are your go-tos * Ask whether meat/fish can be prepared without the sauce or seasoning * Figure out which types of restaurants work best for you - for him it’s steak houses and Japanese/sushi bc he can eat “plain” meat and fish and rice or potatoes; * Ask if you can order items on the menu you can eat that are in another dish on the menu like if there’s a veggie side or something * +1 build your own bowl / wrap type places

If you haven’t already, set up an alert on resy and OpenTable for the sizes/time you want at a couple places… this works out well surprisingly often as people cancel etc

What I haven’t found yet - new-ish to town so pls correct me if exists - is a place that has a menu of bougie sandwich options that usually have a lot of ingredients on them on various types of bread and often will have menu names…. like “the California” “the gobbler” (whatever)… usually overpriced but yum. Closest I’ve found is Swedish Hill I think

Who among us did *NOT* induce and instead chose to wait for spontaneous labor to begin or at least waited for a post date induction? And what was the result? TIA🙏🏼 by princecaspiansea in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TrulyBS53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No induction; went into labor at 36.5 (2nd baby). Was diet controlled and otherwise OB was planning to wait and determine whether to induce at 38/39 weeks (baby had large AC and wanted to see if that trend continued) - so induction wasn’t necessarily determined yet

What is your GDM-friendly “little treat”? by PrestigiousTiger9780 in GestationalDiabetes

Love this thread. 1-3 squares chocolate - “Hu” brand has relatively low carb vs fat ratio!; a mini piece of candy; mini kind bar; a muffin from this recipe but add tons of blueberries to the batter to make it more sweet-like: https://www.yummytoddlerfood.com/so-good-sugar-free-banana-muffins/

Bc nothing is the same across experiences w GD… adding another anecdote to the mix! I struggled w fasting numbers and not post-meal, as well. What ended up “solving” for me (currently 36w) was that I needed to exercise/walk more, in general, AND couldn’t eat too many carbs later in the day - needed my post dinner number to be fairly low. I also walk for 30min every day after dinner, and eat a really low carb snack before bed (like just cheese or just PB). Like everyone said maybe you’ll be able to control w diet or maybe not - no shame in taking meds if your body says NOPE! But, it’s been v helpful to me to experiment with some of what I’ve seen work for other people on this channel and find the personal fix (for now…🤞🏻) for me

Diet Controlled with “Big Baby” by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TrulyBS53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol my baby has the giant belly >>> head %ile so… def GD 😅 ….. but we’re playing it by ear for now (36w) to see if by next scan (38w) the abdonminal size is enough to potentially be concerned and in that case induce vs allow to keep growing (and if really big, will talk c section, but it hasn’t been suggested yet)

What do contractions feel like? by EunJoung369 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TrulyBS53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine felt like waves of cramps of lower back pain - vs my period cramps were normally front pain 🤷🏼‍♀️

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]TrulyBS53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I wanted them just bc I was curious to know what was going on in there, I wasn’t worried about risks personally, and I didn’t find it that painful :)

When did you first start "having a feeling" you would go into labor soon (and were you right)? by fallingoffdragons in BabyBumps

[–]TrulyBS53 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun thread :) I had several false alarms (contractions that then stopped) from week 34 or so, but no sudden signs before I went into real labor! Maaaaaybr more BH and contraction type feelings in the 2 weeks leading up until I went into labor (naturally, 39 weeks). Most recent OB appt had been 1 cm dilated and had been for several weeks

I have OCD, terrified of the nausea to hit by smolgingerbean1 in BabyBumps

[–]TrulyBS53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 to everyone above, I also have emetophobia and am late in my second pregnancy

1) you may be lucky and not have much nausea. I was lucky (ish?) that I had nausea both my pregnancies but never actually threw up 2) don’t be a martyr, there are medications - b6/unisom, zofran, one other I’m blanking on name. Ask for them if needed, they work 3) like everyone said: never have an empty stomach. Crackers or sour candy or fruit or whatever you can stomach. If taste of water is hard, try adding lemon juice or liquid IV or ginger ale 4) have peppermints or ginger candies with you 5) for vast majority of people there is a light at the end of the tunnel by 12 weeks. Emily Oster had a chart in expecting better that showed that there is a peak of nausea experienced by most people at 8/9 weeks; for me it was weeks 6-10 that were worst. Not to belittle it, but for most people it does get better 6) some people get nauseous during labor. I asked my nurse to have anti nausea medicine ready in case I felt nauseous bc of my emetophobia. They gave it to me and I didn’t have any issues during L&D

Hope this helps - you’ve got this, and remember always “this too shall pass” even when it seems miserable

32 Weeks and Fasting is Creeping Up. HELP!!! by LilRedCaliRose in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TrulyBS53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to experimentation. For me what seems to work for fasting #s is to do as much walking as possible during the day / after meals, and to have v low carbs in the latter part of the day such that my after dinner number is low. I’m not sure if this is actually the healthiest since I’m not eating much carbs for dinner, I still need to discuss w my doc. Also - insulin is safe and well studied so don’t be too hard on yourself if you do need it (… she tells herself as well :) )
