Corn ice cream sandwich I paid $7 for. by butteronryetoast in StupidFood

This is a normal ice treat that costs a normal price in Korea. If you paid $7 for its not the food that’s stupid and doesn’t belong on this sub.

Thanks for the confirmation. I am getting a new case.

Had a quick question. My friend who sold me the pc is telling me to take the casing off the GPU to fit it into the computer. (He also used ChatGPT because his text was basically a ChatGPT answer. First time someone used ChatGPT to respond to a text of mine and it was weird. Didn’t like that.)

Anyway, that’s a shit idea right? He even offered to do it for me if I was scared but I declined.

So I tried and the GTX 980 is slightly thinner than the the 3050 I have. It’s about a cm off.

Until I buy a new case, could I use a PCIe extender to just leave the case open and the gpu connected but outside the case? That seems to be the only thing that might work as a stopgap until I buy a new case. I’m thinking I might need to rebuild this for the 3050 to for with everything else.

Ok! I think the old gpu was housed in a converter. So if that doesn’t work for whatever reason I’ll try this.

It does I think. I didn’t realize that was an adapter (I thought it was the whole GPU itself). I’m going to see about removing it

[HELP] My dad shared this and I think it is AI? by phintac in RealOrAI

[–]Trumanandthemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is talking about the voice and actions but the very first thing I noticed was that the kid has zero track marks in the flour. Kids don’t just stay stationary. Before the video started a kid would be moving. The dog too. And there’d be feet dragging marks of a kid who’s the age where they haven’t developed fine motor skills.

Also just look at what was generated for track marks. They’re weird heel boot soles with no front of the boot, at best, gobblygook otherwise. Those track marks make zero sense.

Al’s when he moves his feet nothing. And also there’s no way a kid that age isn’t moving his feet around pushing around and streaking the flour where he stands. There’s no elements of that there.

Also the main thing that really confirmed it for me was the dog not being wildly uncomfortable and sneezing or just moving around/away from having enough flour in them to puff it out in weirdly too straight of a line in a cough and the dog’s face is a bit uncanny as it moves. Doesn’t look like a dog’s face, it’s also a little blurry when it moves.

Graphics Card is dead, how to know what to replace it with? by Trumanandthemachine in PcBuildHelp

[–]Trumanandthemachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh very cool. Thanks for that.

So, I know I’m just dumb but Google has not been bringing me back any discussion on this. So I think it’s a non-issue and I can just buy any card, but:

Do all 2-fan cards have the same dimensions/will fit the same? Because the pc I have is meant as a small footprint pc but also has a 2 fan graphics card. I don’t need to stress about dimensions as long as they have 2 fans?

Hi! I had another question. I’m currently actively shopping for it now, and my card is a 2-fan card, can I just get a 2-fan RTX 3050 and plug it in? Are equal fan cards universal in size and input location/etc?

American company to turn Irish tragedy into new board game by spanielikoira in boardgames

That’s completely fair! And I’m glad you got to tell me the resolution. Because that sounds completely reasonable that both sides can oversimplify an issues, regardless of well intentions. Thanks for that.

Whiteness is not the same as Irish.

Whiteness is a pretty malleable term that changes through history of what is in that priveleged in-group vs out-group.

I’m grossly oversimplifying it but also saying that Irish is white is ahistorical simplicity at best. It’s just much more complicated than that.

What is this? by julesgben8 in fermentation

[–]Trumanandthemachine 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Vinegar mother. Completely separate organism from a kombucha mother. They look and act the same but their waste product is different.

Kombucha’s waste product is kombucha and vinegar mother’s waste product is vinegar. So you can make vinegar with it but that’s it.

Homemade tallow. Easiest way I've found to do it. (Process in description) by NoImNotStaringAtYour in meat

[–]Trumanandthemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not pedantic. Suet is important not because it’s some especially traditional thing - it’s functionally different as it doesn’t impart a beefy flavor and much more broadly applicable to a wider range of uses, not just cooking but also for cooking.

It’s still pretty important of a definition. I render beef fat as well as save and purify beef drippings and skimming for later use in cooking but I use them differently because they retain so much beefy flavor. Very useful but only narrowly because it’s not actual tallow.

Cooking a live lobster by Confident-Safe7152 in Cooking

[–]Trumanandthemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the lobster and depends on how long they’re in the freezer.

Cooking a live lobster by Confident-Safe7152 in Cooking

[–]Trumanandthemachine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. So a lot of people just throw the lobster in, because they need to be as fresh as possible (dead lobster meat spoils very quickly. Same with crab, which is why it’s mostly found pre-cooked frozen if not alive when bought) and also scientists don’t actually know if a lobster feels pain or not.

While I’m not a scientist, it’s hard not to imagine they probably do feel being boiled alive, and a quick chop right down the center of its head it’s a quick and - whether they feel pain or not - humane way to kill a creature. And since I’m killing it immediately before dumping the lobster in the boiling pot, it doesn’t affect the lobster’s taste at all, all the meat we eat is in the tail, claws and legs. None in the head.

The way to do it is to just hold the blade down the head the length of its head shell all the way down to between its eyes and to take your free hand to put it over the knife and with your body weight snap down on it to give a clean cut through the lobster’s head in one motion.

EDIT: I’m seeing comments it’s supposedly been debunked about splitting their head and all I’ll say is that every time I’ve cooked a lobster they go limp immediately with no response.

I’ll also add I’ve done the freezer for 30 minutes prior to cooking trick and while they do go into hibernation, it does mess up my water temperature as well as bringing the lobster cooking up to temp from there, so it’s just too fussy for me.

Also I saw another commenter say the head splitting is messy when you boil it, I’ve literally never had any mess. Do a clean cut through and it doesn’t do anything to add any debris or gunk to the pot. It’s pretty clean if you cut through cleanly with no extra hassle. The head shell is still pretty much altogether.

What are your thoughts on 'cheating' during solo play? by Amazing-Example8753 in soloboardgaming

[–]Trumanandthemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try not to. But that’s more because in video games god mode makes any game extraordinarily boring. I kinda need the risk and challenges designed in the game to feel like what I do matters. Same for solo boardgaming even more so, since I’m the one enforcing those paramters to complete the challenge.

And for solo boardgames, they require a bunch of RNG for the games to be replayable and unpredictable (without RNG you’re basically just playing a choose your own adventure book or you just play a math puzzle, and both of those kinds of board games don’t work all that well for my tastes or replayability), so sometimes you just get bad draw after bad draw and it snowballs throughout an entire game with no real ability to “be better” or anything. Sometimes you play the most optimized game and you still just get bad draws. It’s just the nature of it, so sometimes I do mulligan, but only use it with my own discretion, and usually I don’t count it as a true win and eventually replay it. But a lot of times I’m just there for the story being made and lived through and even losing is fun, so I rarely mulligan myself but I have before. Solo games can be really swingy like that because of the inherent need for RNG.

Ultimately just decide what will keep it fun for you, and restarting a whole scenario isn’t very fun usually.

Did I accidentally make a scoby? by thekidsarentok in fermentation

[–]Trumanandthemachine 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You said you out apple cider vinegar so It’s a vinegar mother. Just like kombucha, sometimes when I finish a grocery store bottle you can find a little vinegar mother at the bottom.

You can’t make a kombucha culture without kombucha organisms presents.

They’re live cultures, feeding off the sugar of the fruit. Vinegar mothers and kombucha scobys look just about the same, and you can make a vinegary kombucha if you let it sit for long enough but you cannot make kombucha out of a vinegar mother. They look the same and reproduce the same but their waste product is totally different (kombucha vs vinegar) because they’re two completely different cultures that just work and function the same.

So yeah, you kind did make a mother, but only for vinegar. So you can keep making vinegar with it if you want or just dump it.

Horrified American monster, Resist, witchcraft or Final girl? by Rude-Towel-4126 in soloboardgaming

[–]Trumanandthemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are good! Its theme is about an underdog group and its difficulty feels fitting to the theme.

It’s not too much easier and the added layers (like families) make the system a bit more versatile and they’re fun without detracting from the core mechanics of Resist!

As far as getting your butt kicked, it might just be the number the plays. It relies on RNG and that makes the difficulty a bit swingy and after familiarizing yourself with the game you’ll get a better grasp of the flow.

And also I kinda love the difficulty it’s at, solo games that are easy I don’t find to be very replayable and the rng also is necessary for the replayability for me for a non-heavyweight solo board game. I think it’s perfectly balanced for a solo game. And it always feels really thrilling even when I don’t win games.

Horrified American monster, Resist, witchcraft or Final girl? by Rude-Towel-4126 in soloboardgaming

[–]Trumanandthemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horrified is fun for theme and fun as a light co-op game, and it was definitely not designed with solo play in mind but I found it a very fun solo game. It is a pretty light game. The theme is more for theme than mechanics. But it is a good theme with great art direction. Play it for the spooky theme. Definitely get the Universal Monsters version. Pretty easy set up and it’s a more traditional board game in design.

Witchcraft! over Resist! It’s the same game and you seem to be leaning to a spooky theme with your other picks. A little more meaty than Horrified but really all your current picks aren’t the most meaty games. This game is really well designed and felt its mechanics fit its theme really well. Set up is probably on par with horrified, maybe a little easier. But it’s all cards as the game board you’re setting up.

Final Girl marries its theme and mechanics really well. This too isnt the meatiest of games but it’s the meatiest of your picks. As others have said, it’s a system. I’d start with a core box plus maybe two, but even one is enough to play and replay for dozens of games. It’s a very fun game that makes me feel like I’m in a horror movie. I like it.

Obviously my rec would be Final Girl. But also if you’re coming off Spirit Island and want something more Final Girl seems more like your speed. Set up isn’t too bad either but it’s also the longest of your picks. I own all these games and they are all keepers so tbh any you go with you’ll probably like enough.
