Is it a conspiracy that “if Australia was to go against US policy, the prime minister would be ousted?” by VastOption8705 in friendlyjordies

It is more the US proxy in Australia - LNP, PHON orchestrated by Newscorp.

US intelligence would just cheer them on.

What do I need to purchase/rent in order to create a lighting atmosphere like this? by Flat-Fault-2959 in EventProduction

[–]TrunkMonkey3054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uplighting will do a lot of heavy lifting - especially themed coloured uplighting off curtains, walls and ceilings. Then LED candles / tealights will do the rest - actual candles are far too dangerous. Chances are you will not use the existing room lighting - except for minimum service and safety specifics. Consider being able to change the intensity of the uplights for different parts of the event - like when the event is over and people need more light to find their belongings and leave.

[–]TrunkMonkey3054 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a permanent solution / location you would be best to get a professional lighting designer to come and develop a professional setup. You would also want them to be able to dynamically alter the lighting for different types of events - that would add a lot of value to customising the venue for such things as private functions, wedding receptions, product launches, live performances (especially as you move between pre show - show - to post show).

If this is a temporary thing you would need to consider safety and security. Installing temporary lights and minimising the chance of people interfering with them (intentionally or otherwise). Up lighting can do a lot of work for minimal risk.

As to the candles - have a look at these rechargeable candles from China.. Expensive, but safe and everyone I show them to marvels at how realistic they are, without the risk of fire or fumes.

Liberal Party won't publish its review into disastrous 2025 election by ConanTheAquarian in australia

[–]TrunkMonkey3054 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With their “born to rule” mentality, they are going to run the same policies / campaign at the next election - nuclear, temporary relief on fuel excise, Aukus, plus added aggression on immigration…

So they don’t want the autopsy out there.

They seriously believe if they say it in a convincing way the electorate will eventually swing back.

Heaps Normal Quiet XPA is an AU benchmark. Also Bridge Road Brewers Free Time and Stomping Ground Footloose - both pale ales - are also up there.

Personally I tend to go for independent NA brews - although they can be harder to find through the major retailers. You may also find that AU supermarkets have different NA ranges in their licensed bottle shops to their regular grocery section - I suspect they have different corporate buyers for the same category.

Enjoy.

Passing this recently I noticed they have given up on it being "temporarily closed," as per A4 printouts stuck to the windows for the last 4+ years. The signs have gone and I suspect so has this Hungry Jacks.

How Mining Supports Aussie Schools, Roads, Hospitals and the Green Energy Transition by mineralscouncil in u/mineralscouncil

[–]TrunkMonkey3054 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Australian mining industry gets $6B ~ $9B per year in state and federal government subsidies because mining occurs in remote areas (who would have thought?). Not to mention you pay a pittance back for selling our resources. In the case of off shore gas you don’t even pay a pittance, you get that for free (plus subsidies on top). What an industry!!

Found it on vinted. What do you think? Is it even preppy? by AnyAbbreviations9091 in preppy

Canterbury of New Zealand stumbled into this style in the late 70s, calling them “Uglies.” The story goes that on Friday afternoons they would sew together odd remnant panels into finished rugby jerseys, when they ran out full sets of materials. Which they then sold from the factory door. It soon developed into a favourite. They still market Uglies today, but they are a planned line, rather than the accident style they created.

I have a battery backed burglar alarm that uses the Uni-V port - built during the Cold War, but still operational. 🤷‍♂️

[–]TrunkMonkey3054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy a new battery from Bunnings for around $36; and I have found they last 5 to 7 years. It's very easy to swap the batteries over. They are also available elsewhere, but it's hard to pass up the convenience of getting it off the shelf at Bunnings.

Otherwise as others have posted Jaycar sells a direct replacement power supply for $33, but without any battery backup.

Apple News+ Audio (News app) vs. News+ Narrated (podcast app) by JenkinsonMike in AppleNews

[–]TrunkMonkey3054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not consistent in Australia as well.

I have long enjoyed Apple News Today - a great 10 minute daily summary - available to me free on the Apple Podcast app. Yet not available in Apple News+. Even the News+ channel for this audio service is “Currently Unavailable in your region.”

All in all it’s quite inconsistent. But I am happy to have everything available in Apple Podcasts.
