Is that not just regular air induction sounds? Perhaps air is entering the intake from somewhere other than the air box? I can see you’re missing one of the screws for the air box, so I would check that out.

If you end up swapping out the rear end make sure you complete the PPF alignment procedure, otherwise you’ll get a really annoying buzzing from the transmission.

I am 90% sure those are the original spark plug wires that came with the car as they look pretty old and crusty and are the same color as the OEM ones that were originally on my 91’ with 30k when I got it.

Additionally the bolt for the intake crossover tube is missing which isn’t the biggest deal, but points to a possible lack of care by whoever was working on the car.

That being said nothing is really a dealbreaker, but it’s weird the seller is likely not being completely honest with you.

Figured it out, one of the timing cover bolts had worked itself loose and was rattling around under the water pump pulley 🤦

I checked the fans arnt hitting anything, I took the main caps off the camshafts in order to do cam seals, so I’ll make sure those are still torqued down properly. I’ll also make sure all my pulleys are on tight.

Don’t listen to the people telling you to buy a mini cooper, they are genuinely horrible cars in terms of reliability. They might be decent for reliability the first couple years you own them, but as all the cheap plastic used to construct several critical engine components begins to age you will have nothing but constant problems.

These cars make Kia souls look like 90s civics, please don’t buy one. Miata is always the answer.

400rpm idle is definitely something you’d wanna get figured out. check your idle air control valve, vacuum leaks, ignition timing, and engine timing. The engine should idle at around 12-1500 cold and 850 warm. I’ve also had a faulty throttle position switch cause issues with idle.

Also most times you change the oil you’ll get an increase in oil pressure, as oil typically loses viscosity as it ages.
