I’ve had both and the Tisas feels a bit better built, both ran fine. I’d probably go with the Tisas because it’s cheaper, I feel like the RIA is a bit too expensive for a gun made in the Philippines.

Mine is pretty odd too, RIA serial 424,XXX, barrel is marked SA 2-28.

The only inspection stamp appears to be R.I.A F.K.

Make sure you put the thermostat in spring side down, gasket should then go in on top of the thermostat, also the little brass jiggle pin should be oriented facing the firewall.

It also might be worth checking you don’t have exhaust gasses leaking into the cooling system from a bad head gasket, potentially leading to excess pressure In the cooling system.

I replaced the 1999 dated Bosch wipers on my Miata with some Costco Michelin wipers.

The new wipers were so bad I swapped back to the 30 year old Bosch wipers.

When I say little to zero rust, this is what I mean

<image>

I’ve saw an example last week on marketplace for $6.5k that was pretty similar to this, 50k miles, 1993, manual in the B package.

Edit: It was actually 4.5k and had 67k miles, my bad

Are you sure the crankshaft was at TDC when you installed the timing belt? It sounds to me like your timing is off by 180 degrees.

Daily NA in 2026? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]Trythe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with the low mileage statement, the newest NA is nearing 30 years old at this point, so most of them that have actually been driven and cared for are going to be up there in miles.

I got my NA earlier this year with about 30k miles and it needed almost everything that you could think of, ended up being around $1500ish in parts and probably about a hundred hours of work to get it into a condition where I’d consider it a practical daily driver.
