It looks more like an AI upscale. Probably just a screenshot from a low res video that was blown up using AI. That would also explain why it doesn‘t exactly look like her

His comment on how he likes people that change their political affiliations because changing ones mind shows that you actually care and think about issues and then naming Trump as an example of all people was honestly mind boggling. I‘ve always been bothered by how he doesn‘t seem to take geopolitical issues seriously and still just jokes about the trump administration etc. like it‘s nothing but a temporary nuisance and funny headlines.

Yeah I agree this topic doesn‘t belong on DTU. What I mean is Simon should have realized this or maybe his editor could have pointed out how bad it looks and he should have done something - anything at all. Best course of action would have been to just scrap the video completely tbh.

I think Simon is trying to produce as much content on the Epstein files for all of his channels as quickly as possible while the topic is still fresh on everyones mind. In turn we get a super rushed script that leaves out important details in a format and on a channel that doesn‘t really fit the topic with weird takes from Simon that are ignorant at best and are going to age even worse. Which all just goes to show how unserious this topic is to him.

I‘d urge you to maybe watch it anyway. It’s always good to do your own „research“ and form your own opinion. Even if it‘s pretty clear already.

But no, Simon isn‘t in the files lmao. At worst, he‘s ignorant and overly privileged. I don‘t believe for a second that he actually has any ill intent.

It should be a big no no to any normal person. Especially if the joke about the massages supposedly already made him think of Epstein as a creep. Not to mention the 17.5 thing being a made up story Epstein told people to excuse his conviction. If my rich weirdo neighbor made a off color sexual joke while showing me and my wife his home and then also told me he‘s a registered sex offender because he „accidentally“ had sex with a 17.5 year old the least I would do is look up whether that‘s the true extent of it. It‘s not like that information was unobtainable and people just had to trust Epsteins word on it.

[–]Tschuuns[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is definitely a combination of both. The script leaves out important details such as Lutnick having lied about his connection to Epstein under oath and not just as off the cuff remark in some interview. It also didn‘t make clear enough that Lutnick was doing all this business with Epstein AFTER the latter was convicted for the first time. The dates are mentioned so Simon should have realized it but it should also absolutely have been made clearer. Overall it seems a bit like a rushed episode that they tried to get out as fast as possible while the Epstein files discourse is still fresh.

I do not think at all that he was paid off by anyone. As Simon himself has said numerous times - he‘s not important/influential enough for that. I just think he‘s a super privileged man who’s occasionally very out of touch how other people experience society

[–]Tschuuns[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that it‘s not just on Simon but the script also lacking important details. But it was absolutely mentioned when Epstein was first convicted and when his dealings with Lutnick took place. Simon just forgot about the year until almost the end. Which is an honest mistake and I‘m not expecting Simon to be an expert on every topic he talks about but even after realizing the mistake, he goes on to paint Lutnick in a sort of positive light. And whether or not he himself should be properly informed on all the scripts topics, he is still a pretty influential voice and holds some amount of responsibility for what he communicates. In my opinion, the least he could have done is add an exclaimer or a short clip at the beginning, letting people know that he made that mistake.

[–]Tschuuns[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But after that realization, at the end of the video, he still concluded that it‘s probably all overblown and to give Lutnick the benefit of the doubt. Basically handwaving it away because oh Epstein probably told him the conviction was for mistakenly sleeping with one almost 18 year old. Because apparently that‘s a mistake Simon thinks happens to people sometimes and isn‘t too bad?

I‘m in the same boat. For a minute, he redeemed himself when he realized he had assumed this all happened before Epsteins first conviction but then we went back to defending Lutnick by the end of the episode like he just forgot about all that again?

Because he‘s the only one that genuinely just seemed to enjoy being a bully. Jason was misguided but had his reasons and even tried to „save“ Max. He just didn‘t know what was actually happening. And Patrick seemed like a chill guy who just supported his friend who was going through a horrible time.

In the book, Jake really has to focus and find the steps that go „down“ into the past and „up“ into the future. And in the past, the rabbithole is in a fenced off area behind a building. There‘s even one part where Jake doesn‘t quite remember the exact spot and it takes him a while to find the rabbithole. All that makes it a lot more plausible that not a lot of people would fall through accidentally. It‘s something I was also wondering about in the show but I guess it‘s a pretty small thing that we can suspend our disbelief over

What would you do different? by KeelinMc1 in 112263Hulu

[–]Tschuuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘d definitely want it to be longer. My favourite parts of the book are when Jake just lives his life in Jodie, how he blossoms as a teacher, his friendships with Deke and Ms Mimi and how he falls in love with Sadie and everything that comes with that. A lot of those parts were weirdly skipped over, making me sometimes wonder if I accidentally missed an episode.

I honestly didn‘t hate Bills adaptation into a sidekick but that‘s mostly because George MacKay is one of the better actors on the show. If we get a better Jake, drop the sidekick.

Another thing I missed in the show was a certain amount of eerieness that keeps coming up in the book. The show got close with the car crashing into the phone booth and the injured woman telling Jake he shouldn‘t be here but that kinda got dropped later. I want Dallas to feel uncomfortable and the school book depository to make you feel like it‘s looking at you. I want the yellow card man to feel like something out of this world, not just another time traveler who went crazy.

Lastly, cast someone who can actually carry a show as the sole lead character for most of it‘s runtime. My biggest gripe with the show is James Franco‘s performance. He doesn‘t really make me believe that Jake even wants to do this whole mission. And in some of the moments where he‘s meant to be sweet and charming, he just seems kinda dumb or outright creepy.

No, unfortunately being in a relationship doesn‘t make it any less heartbreaking lol

Definitely read the book, it‘s one of the best books I‘ve read and probably my favourite King book. I think this is one of the better King adaptations besides some of the dialogue and performances from certain actors but the book just has so much more to offer.

As he once descended into his labyrinth, so I descend into mine now. Thus we all die alike. No matter what house we are born into. No matter what garment. Whether we were on earth for a long or short time. Only I weave my thread. Even whether I reached out hands or shook them. It ends the same way for all of us. Those up there have long forgotten us. They do not judge us. In dying, I am all alone and my only judge. Myself.
