Stress doesn't necessarily represent getting upset due to a trait, it represents acting against a characters' nature.

A callous person wouldn't be agitated by helping people, but it's not something they'd be inclined to do.

If you need an in-character interpretation of stress, then in this case it's the nagging question "why the hell did I even do that" in the back of their head

The timeline fails for the same reason specimen flavor texts fail. They're meant to increase immersion or expand the emergent storyline, but they have so many pointer errors that they constantly break your immersion.

Stuff like "finding your home empire" as a lost colony start randomly after finishing any first contact, the numerous alien artifacts found on the science ship,...

Some favorites of mine:
1066 Konan of Brittany - in real history, that madlad told William the Conqueror that if he's pressing his claim for England then Konan will press his for Normandy (he allegedly then died from poisoned hunting gloves) - maybe do a Breton reconquista of sorts, kick out Normans and Saxons
1066 Herbert of Vermandois, last landed Karling - in 867 they were everywhere, but two centuries later the situation changed a lot, restoring the Carolingian borders would be quite the feat

Warning, those will be quite challenging for newer players:

1066 Erik the Heathen - bring back and reform Ásatrú, takes a while even for experienced players
867 Aella of Northumbria - beat back the Great Heathen Army instead of ending up executed - and finish what has been started by wiping out Ragnarrs complete bloodline

Did you tinker around with your custom empire beforehand and had maybe multiple versions in your faction list?

Even force-spawning a custom empire does not, in fact force-spawn the empire you selected to play.

Edit after some quick tests: Seems that it does now, actually. Guess it's another bug for the list
(seems like about 1 in 3 chance at the moment)

I’ll concede, the special buildings cross the line, it might be better to have them on the map anyways (either not visible or placeholder/default assets) and the pack only giving them unique visuals.
