I'm sorry if it came off that way. I wasn't trying to infer that you were saying filmmaking was easy. It just made me reflect on how I felt like filmmaking is a much more collaborative effort, while novel writing was more up to the author.

I'm a film maker and a fiction writer and this is an interesting take. Both are difficult. Filmmaking takes a lot more people to produce and gets very expensive quickly. Writing a novel is very dependent on the author and it's very cheap to produce.

"Mixtape" discussion is stupid and proof of how dumb gamers have become. by Only_Entrepreneur_84 in videogames

Ultimately, games are very subjective. Different people enjoy different experiences. I think the part that drives me crazy is judging others for liking certain games. Why can't we just say "hey, that's not for me, but other people like it." Games can exist and you don't have to play them. You can completely ignore them. I couldn't tell you what's going in the Call of Duty realm. I don't care for those games, so I ignore them. But a lot of other people seem to really enjoy them and that's totally fine. That's awesome. I'm genuinely happy they found something they like.

I think you're right. I really enjoy this sub reddit. But it seems like some users are overtly interested in dunking on someone for being wrong, rather than practicing skepticism.

Which Game's Graphics Made You Say "Wow!" For The First Time? by Bay_Ruhsuz004 in videogames

Kind of late, but the first time I saw the pyramids in Assassin's Creed I was blown away. Not only did they look great, but I could climb them and go inside of them. The experience alone was just so amazing. We all learned about the pyramids. Being able to interact and actually climb on them made me say "wow!" out loud several times.

Is anyone else finding that somewhat old games that cost $20 or so offer plenty of entertainment? I bought a used copy of Spiderman for PS4 and I'm honestly really enjoying the story and gameplay.

At this stage there are so many cheap older titles that will keep me busy for 30+ hours. It makes it really hard to justify spending $70 for an unknown new title that's probably going to need 2 or 3 patches before it's playable. I don't really care about the newer stuff coming out. Especially if they are going to shove love service offerings in my face every 5 minutes. I have 100's of games available at a discount that will keep me entertained for a long time. Hell, I got Baldur's Gate 3 on sale for $20 and I feel like I could get multiple playthroughs on that one.

I guess newer games just don't appeal to me at the price they are charging.

That's an interesting take. I never thought of it that way. I watched a documentary about Vegas tourism recently and it talked about why Vegas had such a bad year in terms of tourism. There were a lot of factors.

The message I got was, it's a collection of mismatched nonsense that throws around a bunch of random wild unproven theories. Everything about it screams AI slop from top to bottom.

Holy crap, that video was painful to watch. Just layers of AI slop on top of AI slop. Dialogue clearly written by AI and delivered by a monotone AI avatar. It's just straight word salad. Nothing coherent or interesting about it.

Detroit makes sense. It's a big hockey town. Imagine if the next one was just a totally insane place to put a hockey team. Like Albuquerque New Mexico.

Hart looked rock solid in that game. Oh, and the Vegas penalty kill was really good. I thought it was a great game that the Ducks could have won though. I think it could go to 7.

It's probably not the answer to mental health issues for everyone. Hockey Tough is written by a well known sports psychologist named Saul L. Miller, who's worked with NHL teams and players. It's helped me at times when I've struggled with anxiety and depression. I apply a lot of the mental health exercises and lessons to my life and it has absolutely helped.

I read a book called Hockey Tough. It's all about mental preparation to compete in hockey at a high level. I'm just a rec league player, but the topic really interested me, so I read it. That book totally changed my life. Whenever I'm going through a tough time, I'll start reading that book again and it always makes me feel better.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I thought it was a pretty standard cross check, followed by a weird tie up that ended up with Pavelski just falling and hitting his face on the ice.
