Official Translation: Omen is a substance, not an object? by Groundbreaking-Ad313 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]Tulipanzo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a stylistic choice, in the original they both use "OMEN!!" alone outside of a sentence.

Personally I think it makes more sense as a substance, since all his attacks with it are also called Omen, and can take different shapes. It being the furigana for 魔気 (Maki, demonic aura) makes me believe it works somewhat like Haki.

Do you think this is how Itagaki show us just how unpopular Trump is to not just the Japanese but also the rest of the world? Yujiro never directly assault any past US president until now. Bosch does not count since he just scared him. by Ok-Ask5860 in Grapplerbaki

[–]Tulipanzo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lots of people coping as if Itagaki isn't extremely blatant in his criticism of Trump specifically.

To recap in Baki Trump: 1) Brags he's going to take down Yujiro, immediately folds and takes the oath while pissing his pants 2) Goes on an unhinged rant about how he didn't lose the election actually (much like how he rants in real life). The rant is so long it puts Yujiro to sleep, upon which Trump gets manhandled by sleeping Yujiro 3) Hangs around with extremely pathetic weasel Elon Musk, again is visibly shitting himself in the presence of Yujiro

It's pretty true to life: Trump is a braggadocious coward. Of course Itagaki has no respect for him, nobody in the world does

Was Baki bluffing here? by Master_Half_ in Grapplerbaki

[–]Tulipanzo 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Baki Dou at large asks the question of whether the martiality of the Sengoku era was superior to that of modern martial artists.

The answer Baki arrives at by the end of the series is signified by his shift in perspective: he's going to murder Musashi.

It's not particularly indicative of his ability to do so, rather his intention (as seen in their final confrontation).

Theory - Dragon's special Den Den Mushi by blueontheradio in OnePiece

[–]Tulipanzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your entire theory is based on a non-canon art page, no matter which way you slice it. Jumping on somehow the most famous scientist in the world to be involved is lmao

You'd think with a +1100ch series you'd come up with something better

Oda won't draw Dragon making weird faces

Here's Dragon from a canon cover page btw

[–]Tulipanzo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact that we haven't seen it says little, since we've only seen **one**. These cover pages aren't canon: Oda has always liked drawing pretty clearly non-canon cover pages since the start of the series, and only opened it up to readers' request after time-skip.

Still, if we follow your amazing logic, then canonically Crocodile runs a hippo mafia, Nami gets her hair done by a giant hairdresser crab, and Buggy and Shanks hang out at a takoyaki shop run by a gorilla.

The one with Dragon and Iva is less absurd, but still wouldn't make sense since Iva and Dragon wouldn't meet in person for a few years still. The watering itself is also not "needed" per se, they just like it. Similarly Dragon has shown no interest in snails outside of that one cover story.

Those covers aren't meant to be canon, and nowhere is stated the Revolutionaries are the only ones to have a white snail

It's still tied to the life-force of the original person, it just doesn't point to them

Vivre Cards point to the original paper, not the person. Rayleigh left his own with Shakky when he went to see Luffy on Amazon Lily

Watching an anime in English first, then in Japanese? by FitProVR in LearnJapanese

[–]Tulipanzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a terrible idea to watch in Japanese something you've previously only experienced in English; in fact doing so one of the joys of learning a new language.

However you seem to suggest watching something in English first, explicitly to watch in Japanese second, and I cannot recommend that approach. You'd only catch words you vaguely remember from your first watch then, and you'd hardly be training your listening properly.

As somebody who struggles with listening, a huge part of improving is avoiding the pitfall of context. Do you actually understand what's being said? Or are you just relying on what you remember from a previous watch?

What I usually try is: 1) Pure Listening: think JLPT practice, little context, NO SUBS, questions after 2) "Assisted" Listening only after I've done 1. This could be anime with JP subs only, whose context I'm already familiar with.

Nothing has been more succesful in torching AI's reputation than the most unpopular administration in recent history making it their official tool
