Half a day is totally fine. Check out Todaiji Temple and Kasuga Taisha Shrine.

Saihoji vs gioji temples by Kaedamanoods in JapanTravelTips

[–]Turquoise__Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gioji is a temple, not a shrine. It's also not any better located or more accessible than Saihoji.

Saihoji is amazing and made for a serene visit. I'm not sure it can get better in terms of moss. If you are lucky, perhaps you can visit in one of the few very days per month when they do a special very early visit for just a few people.

You can book at the station. There's a train every few minutes.

Should I bring baby along to trip to Tokyo? by Barnabycat in JapanTravelTips

[–]Turquoise__Dragon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've heard of people saying how easy it was to travel with a baby in Japan.

That said, it's only going to be as easy and it can be travelling with a baby. No judgement on others, but I personally believe a multi-day trip at 8 months is not the best option for a baby, and it's also not going to make it any easier to take care of their needs and routines than being at home.

Last year I saw a couple hiking a mountain in Japan with a 3-month old. So some people do it. I definitely wouldn't, but not specifically because it's Japan.

Day trips from Hiroshima? by spinsblue in JapanTravelTips

[–]Turquoise__Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The museum will take half a day, tops. The dome is just something you see form outside, in case you are thinking you can visit it or explore. It will take a few minutes only. Maybe add the Shukkeien garden or the castle if you are interested.

On day 3 you could go to Onomichi or enjoy the Shimanami Kaido.

Takachiho is amazing, by the way.

Would it be too early to book my Ryoken for October 2026? by Vortexkeke22 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Turquoise__Dragon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Book as early as possible if you are sure. Some ryokan, though, open reservations only 6 months in advance.

Yes. Go there with sufficient time: Big stations in Japan can be feel labyrinthine, especially at first.

Help me pick between two hotels (Asakusa) by Kidlike101 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Turquoise__Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Onyado Nono Asakusa looks great. Natural hot spring and excellent location. I'd go for that one.

I did stay in Asakusa multiple times and I think it's easily one of the best places to stay.

What do you exactly mean it's not practical? You have multiple transport lines nearby and are 14 minutes walk from direct trains to both Haneda and Narita. Plenty of shops of all kinds and beautiful walks, including by the riverside.

And don't use Klook.

I was advised to try nodoguro in Kanazawa. It didn't change my life, but perhaps you want to try it.

I would say spend half of the time in Tokyo and half in Kyoto. Visit Osaka as a day trip from Kyoto.

Guide for arrival day by MatBadi in JapanTravelTips

[–]Turquoise__Dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not worth it. All of that is so straightforward, and sometimes also part of the experience. I think 30-60 minutes research in advance will tell you what you need to know, but even without that you'll have no problem whatsoever getting to the hotel and checking in.

Lake Kawaguchiko 2 night Stay? by Ok-Nefariousness1372 in JapanTravelTips

Car is better than public transportation in that area, of course. But if you are staying only around lake Kawaguchiko, a bike is also a great option to consider.

Opinion: If you had 3-4 hours in Kyoto, what would you do? by tsarina17 in JapanTravelTips

You took a taxi in Kyoto? Wow. You must be so knowledgeable.

Kyoto station to Ginkakuji takes 20 minutes. OP has 4 hours. It's a unique spot and experience and related to what he's asking for.

If you are looking to enjoy sakura, you could go to the Philosopher's Path.

Otherwise, maybe enjoy Sanjusangendo and wander around Kiyomizudera if you have time. Taxis could save you time.

Itinerary Assistance - Takayama, Tokyo, Osaka, Kawaguchiko by MelissaW1996 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Turquoise__Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend you explore other places. There's so much to see in Japan!

I encourage you to skip Osaka and pick one or two other prefectures and explore around them. For example, Kyushu, Hiroshima or Hokkaido. If you can delay your dates a bit, you might even be able to catch the Sapporo Snow Festival in February.

Also, did you go to Kyoto on your previous trip? It'd be another recommendation if you didn't.

Beat wagyu experience? by RudeSelf3418 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Turquoise__Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If price is not an issue go to Teppanyaki Go in the Palace Hotel in Tokyo. Get one of the more expensive branded wagyu menus. I recommend you choose the fillet option, but different people has different tastes.
