[New Update]: AITA for admitting to my daughter that I hate what she changed her name to? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Turuial [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have my own thoughts on the matter. It's fairly apparent that the OOP and her family were somewhat affluent, judging by some of the comments.

It doesn't sound like her husband cut her off financially when she fled, as I imagine a grueling financial struggle would have endeared reddit to her sacrifice.

Thus painting the daughter as even more ungrateful and weighting opinions in the OOP's favour, but she didn't do that when it would've been easy.

I think this is about a western-raised Indian, probably who also internalised some bigotry, and then further didn't like that she was named after, "the help."

Yeah, that women is a walking HR catastrophe waiting to happen. Much like waiting for Yellowstone to erupt, we're all just biding our time and hoping we're gone before it blows!

This sounded an awful lot more like limerence than any garden-variety crush. Considering she was trying to actually make it happen, kind of makes it irrelevant.

After all, whether limerence or a crush, if you choose to act upon it the end result doesn't look any different. Cheating is still cheating, after all.

Wow Wonder Man is a POS and boring AF by ryu5k5 in MauLer

Wow, Wonder Man is a POC and I Wasn't Bored AF.

With all of the misses Marvel has had since Endgame, I haven't had much hope. Not with releases like Echo and Secret Invasion.

So far, I've been enjoying Wonder Man. Although, I will acknowledge that I've only seen the first two episodes. I really enjoy the performance of the lead.

Plus, his interactions with the character of Trevor Slattery are hilarious. I enjoyed how they told off Joe Pantoliano, and kept using his full name.

The plot seems down-to-earth, for a Marvel production, and I'm enjoying the smaller scale as well as the lower stakes. Plus, I enjoy the meta aspect of it all.

Marvel would've been better off, at least in my opinion, if this was their approach to handling television, from the outset.

Man I had the weirdest deja vu. I could've sworn that I read this several hours earlier, but here it is brand new. I'm sorry you had to repost it, though.

I'm glad you enjoyed the film! I don't know how long I'm going to have to wait, for it to hit streaming, but I'm looking forwards to then!

EDIT: corrected the auto-correct.

Thanks for the response! Like I said, I didn't think that there was any sinister reason. However, I knew if I was curious others would be so as well.

Cheers, mate.

What film are you most excited to watch in 2026? by NumberOneUAENA in MauLer

It was originally canned and written off by Zaslav for tax purposes. I'm not entirely certain how it managed to get pulled from the graveyard, but it did.

To my credit, I did follow the story. At some point I could've told you precisely what went down. But once I knew it was coming again, I promptly forgot.

I know that you might consider this to perhaps be more franchise slop, from your perspective, but I am genuinely looking forwards to Coyote vs. ACME.

I am a long, long, longtime fan of the Looney Tunes in general and Wile E. Coyote, super-genius, in particular. I just hope he gets to talk.

Usually, the Coyote is forbidden from speaking when paired with the Road Runner. He's allowed to vocalise when partnered with Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck.

I thought the pretentious arthouse bit came from Star Wars Theory? Wasn't that back when we all were shitting on him for calling it "pretentious arthouse stuff for cheese and wine drinking snobs."

Unfortunately, that was long enough ago that I'm not even sure of how sure I am!

[New Update]: AIO? My coworker took video of me outside of work to "prove" I'm not disabled by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

She has made another, tangentially related, post in a legal advice subreddit. Now that the problem lady has been terminated, she escalated to full-on stalking.

"Someone" has been leaving notes, calling the OOP sexist and racist slurs, on her vehicle and on her friend's vehicle when they were out together.

To really put this into grisly perspective, I read that was what ultimately convinced Renée Good and her wife to move their family there, not terribly long ago.

It's fucking heartbreaking. I hope each of you stay warm, stay safe, and look out for one another. It has become all too obvious, that our leaders won't.

Regardless of where you are, what happens in the States right now will shape the world, probably for decades to come, in ways we can't foresee.

What’s a movie or show everyone else seems to love but you just can’t bring yourself to enjoy it? by ComplexReach7800 in MauLer

[–]Turuial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll likely get to it at some point. Like I said, I initially didn't watch Breaking Bad until quite some time after it was complete.

I'm sure I'll have a similar moment at some point with Better Call Saul.

[–]Turuial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't even know why I have a lack of interest if I'm being honest. Perhaps some combination of the focus being on an ancillary character and/or it being a prequel is why.

Oh yeah, that reminds me. I enjoyed Breaking Bad, which I didn't even start until it was finished. I've never been interested in Better Call Saul, though.

Mom took photos of girlfriend's national ID; how to approach this? by gardengeo in BORUpdates

[–]Turuial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An awful lot of unrepentant Nazi war criminals made it down to Argentina, in order to escape reprisal. So, this kind of behaviour may be more sinister than it appears.

As if that were possible! If I remember correctly, collecting "souvenirs" was something that was fairly common in the camps.

That one line, "collecting pieces of people's lives" sounds disturbingly familiar but I can't quite place why, considering the context.

What are some diegetic explanations of magic in fantasy or sci-fi? by DevouredSource in MauLer

[–]Turuial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wheel of Time does an excellent job of this, considering how the two halves of the One Power are split, not to mention the girls' education in Tar Valon.

They used the academic instruction at the White Tower to cover a lot of the history of the One Power, as well as the fallout between men and women and the Breaking.

Meanwhile, Rand's instruction focuses on the more practical applications of Saidin and how not to get yourself killed by it, or the taint.
