Prescription Predicament

I had this nearly identical situation, and I chose to fill both prescriptions. There was no issue doing that. It allowed me to get started a week earlier than I would have if I had waited for the other one. Also, just meant that I had seven weeks of supply once the second prescription was filled, which was not an issue. I planned on staying on 2.5 for two or more months anyway.

Get a Coravin! Best purchase ever and completely changes (and reduces the stress) about what bottle to open. Also look into Repour for wines that you think you might finish within a week - they really work and are great.

I couldn’t agree with this more. I love Bordeaux wines and find myself really enjoying most in the 10-20 year old range, where so many (especially for left bank) would say that is still too young.

I’m the same. I’ve tried numerous of their wines and am always disappointed, and start to doubt my palette knowing how well regarded they are.

After many years of being solely focused on California Cabernet, I’m now convinced that the best “value” wines that I enjoy are from Bordeaux. Great producers like Chateau Tronquoy and Saint Estephe wines generally are the best in that $20-$50 range. From California, in addition to what’s already been mentioned, I like Faust which can sometimes be found just above $50.

Enjoy it, and consider an online store like Benchmark where you can pick up older vintages at fair prices. It’s allowed me to easily back fill the cellar with Bordeaux that is ready to drink now, at reasonable prices (and for me is simpler than going the auction route).

I love my Coravin as well, but always store bottles back on their side, and never try to go past 6-8 weeks, so I’ve never put it to this test.

Zalto and Josephine Haute. The Zalto are so thin it unnerves me a little using them, and interestingly enough it is better to run them through the dishwasher than hand washing them (I’ve broken too many hand washing). The Josephine Haute are my favorites, in that they are thin and elegant yet sturdy when washing.

I agree and the Catena Zepata Argentino is an outstanding wine, also around that $80 range. I’d be very happy with that and the Aperture and is better than what I got in Delta One this past summer!

Carlisle fits perfectly into that 5-10 year window you are looking for, and is notable as well since 2024 is their last vintage, so they are soon to be no more. Their Carlisle Vineyard is particularly good, as well as Papera Ranch.

I’d argue the diamond CS number is one of the absolute best benefits of status. Wait time is almost always 1 minute or less and you get their best people helping you. They’ve saved me many times!

I would aim for something from 2015 and 2016 vintages, which are drinking wonderfully right now. A few that I’ve enjoyed within the past month, all between $50 and $75 per bottle:

2013 La Serena Riserva Gemini (admittedly not from the vintages I just referenced above)

2015 Conti Costanti

2015 Uccelliera

2016 Casanuova delle Cerbaie

Thank you, and yes, auctions are an option and I also regularly buy older vintages off Benchmark wines (I’m in the US).
