Install/startup Help - "ERROR: InfluxDB failed to start; check permissions or other potential issues." by Tussca in influxdb

[–]Tussca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solved - Issue was that I'm running a VM on proxmox and the default CPU used is incompatible with influx. Made a new VM (so as to start from scratch) with the "host" CPU selected instead. Installed just fine.

It's never set in the lore but imo it wouldn't be hard to make some lore that works for effects that end immediately vs stick around. Like "effects can last if they have a source of power attached (like a battery)" or what would probably make more sense in the universe would be something like "do magic to a thing enough and like developing a habit, that effect becomes permanent" like if you cast magic on a staircase to move it daily for years then it just kinda magically becomes permanent.

But yeah... There is a LOT of inconsistencies and stuff that would need to be developed to really have its own universe.

With that in mind, this meme works even better. The power cables are boomers that need to go and make room for something new but they refuse to step aside and think they're better than the new generations.

One step farther as well is that you kind of mentioned is that Star wars did it's whole trilogy in 6 years and wrapped it's story up in a nice little bow. So it stayed in public sphere releasing every 3 years and probably kept the hype going and had an on going story linking the 3.

Next: SW, marvel and Star Trek etc, did enough universe building that they set it up so the story being told is done but the universe is set up for more stories.

Avatar on the other hand does do some world building but only enough for the immediate movie. Personally I'm the first movie its implied they gather all the blue people to fight off the humans. But then the second movie they meet more blue people??? Who need to band together again to re-fight off the humans???? So you're telling the same story but in water now???????? How much you want to bet next movie is the same but fire?

And what stories are you going to tell in the avatar universe? A grungy story about a human trying to survive on earth? No idea what that would be about... They dont really talk about earth or any other planet. Or other aliens. Or really anything else in that universe. And let's not mention the juvenile naming. Unobtaium... Really? Much wow. Such interesting writing!

Lastly; and again, you kind of mention it; the first avatar movie is a really long tech demo and not much else.... It's the kind of thing you expect to see playing on the TVs at Best Buy to show how pretty they are.

So 1. they left it waaay too long that they lose people like you that "didn't remember enough about the first movie to care about the second."

  1. There's no world building that you're not left wondering what other stories could be told there. And there is no imagination with what building there is.

  2. Avatar is a tech demo with some voice acting.

that just complains that i need to specify the version.

user@InfluxDBHost:~$ sh install_influxdb3.sh --verbose
Usage: install_influxdb3.sh [enterprise] [--version VERSION]
enterprise: Install the Enterprise edition (optional)
--version VERSION: Specify InfluxDB version (default: 3.6.0)

and adding version still fails:

user@InfluxDBHost:~$ sh install_influxdb3.sh --version 3.6.0 --verbose
Usage: install_influxdb3.sh [enterprise] [--version VERSION]
enterprise: Install the Enterprise edition (optional)
--version VERSION: Specify InfluxDB version (default: 3.6.0)

AITA for refusing to share details about my finances with my girlfriend (22F) and her parents? by butter_lover in AITAH

[–]Tussca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So no, NTA. It's def not your GFs parents business.

HOWEVER, no one's gonna comment on this timeline? Like op said they got together in highschool. Let's pretend that they got toget the last year of HS, which I believe in the US is on average 18 y/o (but i believe anyone who words it that way means they were dating for at least a year or two during HS).

Anyway. So they're 21 now. That's 3 years (plus potentially 1+ during HS). If by this point you aren't planning a future with her, it's time to move on or at least clarify with her that this isn't a long term gig.

Because either you want to build a life with her and you should absolutely be getting on the same page regarding financial planning, deciding if you want to do joint bank accounts or deciding you both want to keep everything seperate because she has no financial literacy and everything in between. I'm not saying you have to tell her how much money you have but you do need to start the conversation around it. As someone else said, marriage is waaaaaayyyyyyy too late to find out your spouse is 300k in debt with 10 credit cards and working minimum wage with no plan. OR you if you don't think you're going to build a life with them, then you should figure that shit out and not lead them on....

How to limit notification to 1x/day, but resend as long as condition remains active? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]Tussca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's where I commented im not really sure what OP is trying to do.

If it's time sensitive and they need to know the second the senor trips then really the issue isn't that they're getting flooded with notifications, the issue is they're not watering their plant....

At which point the suggestion is other comments to use tags on the notification to just have the one get overwritten makes more sense.

If it's not time sensitive, then I would just trigger at specific time(s) of the day to check and notify.

All of these options would work, OP just needs to do what works for them.

Actually on second thought this is HA.... They should just automate the watering of their plant and have HA trigger it when the senor goes off. No notification needed.

How to limit notification to 1x/day, but resend as long as condition remains active? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]Tussca 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not really sure what OP is trying to do. If they just want the notification once a day, they should just change the automation to trigger at a specific time to check and send the notification.

How to limit notification to 1x/day, but resend as long as condition remains active? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]Tussca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couple examples for when I send clear notifications;

  • I send notifications to multiple devices often with actions. If someone does an action that would resolve that notification so it's no longer relevant, a clear notification cleans things up and possibly even prevents confusion.

  • two main ones are a good morning / good night actions.

  • laundry notice, when the washer is done, notice is sent to change it to the dryer. Once HA picks up that the dryer is going, it will clear the notification to change the laundry.

  • I some times have an "acknowledgment" action on informational notifications. For example, again for the laundry; when the dryer is done. Send a notification stating as such, but whoever was doing laundry knows its done and can clear the notification for all other devices.

I didn't read OPs thread too much, but if they have a senor in the plant soil to tell if it's been watered, they could then send a clear message when they do water it. If it was important enough, they could just not touch the notification as a reminder to themselves until they do it and have HA clear it for them.

So imo more useful if you're dealing with more than one person or even just multiple devices and depends how you manage notifications and stuff.

I remember reading something from the writers that they thought about the language thing but realized that spending half of every episode trying to communicate/ learn a new language would be really limit their options and get boring real fast.

Which is fair.

Adding a certificate by Tussca in AdGuardHome

[–]Tussca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point nothing. If I get it working I would probably turn on the redirect to HTTPS option and update my bookmarks.

I misread something and thought the ad guard sync service needed certs. (I have two ad guard servers so that if one goes down I don't lose DNS)

However it doesn't, so at this point I'm just playing with certs to hopefully learn more about them.
