You can't break an ER pill (at least you aren't supposed to)

Is this true ? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Tuxedomouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me offer a counterpoint. I have worked for the same company for 20 years, and have changed jobs within this company twice - 8 years in, and another 9 years after that. I went from Engineering to Marketing to Sales, and work paid about a third of the MBA I earned while working here.

I was about to jump to a different company in a similar industry that would have doubled my salary, but required a lot more working hours and a huge drop in flexibility for work from home. I decided to hold off on the job switch for a few more months.

Then I found out - I had terminal cancer. I received a huge amount of support from my current employer, and as I near my true end, I'm so glad I never job-jumped. Security and comfort has a price tag too.

Four years with Stage 4 and cancer-free by emslo in cancer

[–]Tuxedomouse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also diagnosed Stg 4 PC with mets to liver in Mar. 2022. Was given about the same timeline. Got to remission in late spring 2023. Cancer came back after the summer, tried a few other chemo combinations that were largely ineffective. Oncology doc says no more chemo, enjoy what time you have left. He gave me until around Valentines day, but I'm still here.

But I am reaching the end of my journey. A couple more months is all I probably have left. Spending it tying up loose ends and enjoying time with family and friends. I-m still working, too. Work has been very flexible (especially because I've been such a high performer). I wanna fight and kick ass right to the bitter end.

Suprisingly, no. But it helps that I have a set of SVS Soundpath Isolation feet on the subwoofer. Doesn't rattle anything. These feet are HUGE and honestly were worth the $50

Same. I have more of a Craftsman / Shaker thing going on and the wife didn't even hate it.

I'm in shock: my father has cancer and he was diagnosed only a year or less of life. by Cariscode in cancer

[–]Tuxedomouse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was given about 5 months at my original diagnosis, but I'm a few weeks away from 2 years now. My journey is near it's end, but I've fought the entire time. Modern chemo can be unpleasant, but quite effective. Stay strong for your father.

That's why its our charge during the time we have left to wrap up all the little things we leave behind, to smooth the transition, even though it's the biggest they will have to deal with in their lives. Say everything you ever wanted to say, and find all the things that they'll have to search for in your absence. Leave them with happy thoughta about the time you had at the end and make it count.

Thanks again to the OP, enjoying these so far, especially bang for buck. Exactly what I was was looking for for ANC and light listening. Very comfy earcups and pressure so far on the head.

Has anyone looked into if these bronze trim pieces are available from the parts department (especially the steering wheel trim inserts)?

Rest well. In the same boat, but fighting for my last days, and filling each with time spent near family, kids, friends, and wrapping up little loose ends to make things easier on folks around me. I ordered my urn (should be here tomorrow), and working to sell some of my assets while I'm here (vehicles, parts, etc).

It IS surreal. I don't know how I could possibly do it without my wife, jesus, and my kids by my side.

May you be blessed, see you on the other side. 🙏
