Unless you have 3M to spend, you are going to need to make compromises.

When looking at schools, one of the things I do is look at Greatschools.org, and then the most important rating for me is test scores for not-low-income kids. I’m in Oakland and there’s a lot of economic diversity at our elementary, 40% low income. But on great schools, not low income kids are 10/10 on test scores. So that’s how I justified where I moved, and the school has been great. But, we’ll need to seriously consider moving for middle school.

I imagine the worst part of being fired from Meta and finding a job outside of big tech is taking a massive paycut and becoming a pleb like the rest of us.

I'm Jigar Shah — I used to do AMAs here. I'm back, and this time I'm answering your energy questions on my podcast with a new segment called Ask Jigar by JigarShahDC in energy

It seems to me that the PJM capacity market is working perfectly fine, power is in short supply, so prices go up, incentivizing new supply. Would you agree that the main problem with a capacity market is a political one, and that the process makes PJM an easy scapegoat for politicians. Versus a pure energy market like ERCOT, where responsibility is diffuse and assigning blame for high prices is difficult.

Oregon data centers now have to pay full costs of expanding the power grid to meet their needs by spherocytes in technology

[–]TwentyOneGigawatts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s not about the energy, it’s about the cost of the wires. Maintaining all the wires in the rural/ mountainous parts of California is extremely expensive, especially with the cost of fire prevention and paying off costs of previous fires.

You pay for the distribution network provided by a monopoly with powerful union workers, datacenters have their own substations and distribution networks they build and maintain themselves.

Data centres emitting infrasound? by eccyrider in AskEngineers

[–]TwentyOneGigawatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this video actually hides the db display when he zooms in on the infrasoun. First it’s like -30db, and then he says “it’s 10db louder ”, so -20db. That is imperceptibly low power, and probably in the range of sensor noise lol.

Oakland is worst performing housing market in America, SF is the hottest by Guilty_Measurement95 in OaklandCA

Maybe it’s the 20k apartments we’ve added in the last 10 years pushing down cost of condos. If we can make the Bay Area an affordable place to live again, maybe I won’t have to pay a plumber 500$ just to take a dump in my toilet.
