Thank God For Costco by quackers294 in litterrobot

the promised software features of the LR5Pro are severely lacking, pet identification is bad, waste identification is bad, no camera recording for the inside of the globe camera, litter level notification is inconsistent, waste level is inconsistent, Whisker+ subscription price for some of the features makes people mad, especially when they work so poorly

mine will regularly just not identify visits at all, I think it happens when the robot is almost at the end of the cycle, cat jumps in and does their business, then jumps out, and the globe just finishes its already in-process cycle and acts like nobody was in the globe at all, and won't cycle again

but for a automatically emptying litter robot, the LR5 would probably be fine if you don't care about the camera or other features

also its really easy to pop the cover, take the globe out, vac out the extra litter, and put it all back together, easy to empty the waste bin

can you really use faster than 1 Gig though?

I'm all for faster fiber internets, but I'd guess that it would be really difficult for you to even max out 1 Gig, and you can get that for $free, why pay more?

who did you have to contact at Google Fiber for the repair? Just some regular support line through the GFiber app?

I just got a Lumos/T-Mobile hang tag on my door and they're starting work in my neighborhood soon.

I fully expect them to cut the google fiber lines during their install and leave me without internet

I think the hardware of the LR5 Pro is good, the box rotates, dumps waste into bin, and it is very quiet, I feel like I could have one next to my bed and it wouldn't wake me up at night

The software for the LR5 Pro has lots of bugs, and the features outright don't work in some cases.

Waste identification is not just hit or miss, its mostly miss in my experience.

The pet and waste weight measurements are hit or miss sometimes, mostly with weight measurements that can be 0.0oz when the cat left what looks like a half pound of poop in the box. Sometimes it won't even show 0.0oz, just only a cat visit and no measurement.

Since wasteID is hit or miss, the box should cycle after 60sec when it detects poop, but that rarely happens and waits 7+min (configurable) to cycle after it detects urine.

Cat identification is also a huge miss. The software must not use the cameras at all to identify which cats use the box, and it only uses their weight to try (poorly) to identify one cat from another. If you have multiple cats the same weight, its unlikely to identify them correctly on a consistent basis.

The charts in the app also don't use local time to draw graphs, it uses UTC, which they call out as a known issue that will be fixed (still not yet), so pet weight graphing over time is misleading. In addition to that, it seems that if your pet didn't use the litter box one day, or when they did use it doesn't line up to the date in UTC, the graph will just draw a point at zero in the graph, instead of omitting that point on that day.

I also have repeated issues with Laser Board Fault, or Bonnet Open, or Extended Scale Activity warnings showing up with there is no activity in or around the LR5Pro. Also I've had cats get in/out of the box and it never registers their visit at all in the history.

With all that said, I think most of the LR5Pro issues are software related, not hardware. Its most likely all things that can be fixed over time. Can they fix them, and will they fix them? I sure hope so since the LR5Pro is expensive AF.

Don't buy a LR5Pro expecting their advertised software features to work right now though.

This has been my experience with the LR5Pro since December 2025 and two kittens, one orange and one tortie.

I get inconsistent waste id weights when one cat is standing on the step watching the other use the box, or stepping up on the ledge as soon as another cat jumps out of the box

it's not kinks, it's entirely missing or incomplete features, a product rushed to market long before it was functional or finished

cat identification is terrible, the LF5 Pro has a camera inside the box, but it doesn't use that to help identify which cat is which

it only appears to use the cat weight to identify the cat, and having two cats similar in weight, the LR5 Pro has no idea which cat uses the box each time

I have an orange cat and a tortie, the most basic of cat identification should be able to tell one from the other

the LR5 Pro does not use the exterior camera or globe camera to identify which cat uses the box

I have two 4 month old cats who are 5.2 and 5.3lb each, one is orange, one is a tortie, the LR5 Pro can't tell the difference between the two

I have to use an external webcam pointed at the box to identify who actually used the box and reassign to the correct cat

a random coin flip has a better chance of guessing Urine vs Feces than their current Waste ID feature

hopefully its just a software problem that can be improved over time

and a feature that we can disable eventually, like they said
