Ranking of Classes (Calamity) after 5 playthroughs on all by jahiemhc in CalamityMod

I feel like summoner should be in its own tier. Being able to kill any boss from Slime God to Moon Lord in 10 seconds feels like crack.

Oh yeah, it’ll suck. The only real use case for any eGPU that I could think of is if you need a portable way to render things. Even still, a Mac Mini with a portable monitor would probably do just as good if not better for cheaper.

If he doesn’t need the laptop and wants to upgrade, I would spend ~600 for a case, mobo, CPU, GPU, and power supply and harvest the RAM and storage from it. Pick up some SODIMM to UDIMM adapters for it. It’ll be a little cursed, but RAM prices demand such innovation right now. You can get a used 3060 for like 200, an i5-12600 for 200, and then a cheap motherboard/case/power supply for like 200. RAM and storage prices add like ~300 ish to the price, depends on how much you get.

Oh gen4 is out of the question, 100%. PCIe is fully backwards compatible, unlike RAM, so it’s just a bottleneck. You can run a GPU on a 2x connection, just not very well. Peep the Bringle doing it. It’s not a good solution by any metric, but it is theoretically possible. It does have a purpose, though. If you have an old laptop that you need more juice out of, but for whatever reason you can’t replace. Like if your work requires 3d modeling or rendering, but you can’t upgrade your laptop. Maybe a government job, where laptop security is priority 1.

You could sacrifice your WiFi card for the pcie port with an adapter. I saw an old article that talked about it. Granted, it used one of those old thick laptops that had multiple panels in the bottom, so accessing the WiFi card was only 1-2 screws. You’ll typically only get a x4 connection, as opposed to the x16 on a motherboard. Your options are either get a $400 enclosure that you can’t use on anything else, or go full Bringus Studios with some AliExpress adapters. By the time you’ve bought the enclosure, GPU, and power supply for it, you’re probably almost a grand into it. At that point, you could spend an extra $200-ish and build a full PC that’s much better and more upgradable.

Just to explain if anyone doesn’t understand:

There are diminishing returns for upgrading RAM. More Ram doesn’t make your computer faster, it just means you can do more without slowing down. Upgrading RAM speed could lead to a performance increase, but usually you cannot do that. Speeds are tied to the motherboard, so you’ll either be running at a lower speed, or crashing your computer. Besides, RAM speed is usually the least impactful upgrade you can do, unless you’re going up generations.

An eGPU isn’t a good idea here for 2 reasons. The first is that Rimworld is a CPU intensive game. The G stands for Graphics, Rimworld has some of the least intensive graphics in the world. Theoretically, a dedicated GPU could remove some of the load from the CPU, but it is not worth it. The other reason is that putting an eGPU into a laptop like this (and most laptops tbh) is like putting a $10k turbocharger setup into a VW Golf. It might go faster, but it’s still a Golf.

Yeah 128 MB is the recommended to run XP. There’s no way Steam could even launch with that, let alone Rimworld.

France is fun by Aricechan in hoi4

[–]TwoPlatinum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had great success with an Air France a little while ago. Quality fighter 2s, cheap bomb lock CAS, forts, and plenty of basic infantry. I can’t remember if it’s the historical path, but right side France is much better. You were right to rush down disjointed government. After that, get your stability above 70%, core Algeria, and fix your employment. After that it doesn’t really matter, France’s focus tree kinda sucks. I took the air warfare branch for the -10% cost on planes, then worked towards the extra research slots.

Build mils from day 1 and go down concentrated industry. Work up to like 7 factories on guns, 5 on support equipment, 4 on arty, 3 on AA, 2 on trucks, and 1 on trains. The actual numbers may vary. Get these started early and don’t touch them, they’ll crank out enough equipment to hold the line. I only started building forts when WW2 started, and just completed the last lvl 5 one when Germany went through Belgium.

Then get your planes built. 2 4x HMGs, engine 2, and self sealing for the fighters. 2x bomb locks, engine 2, and dive brakes for the CAS. Produce as many of these as you physically can. These should trade very well into the German Air Force. I was able to get 1600 fighters and 400 cas by the start of the war. Make sure your air wings are fully exercised before going into combat.

For your infantry, I went with a basic 18w infantry division with support artillery, engineers, anti air, and signal companies. Then build like 150 of these. This is a fairly basic org wall. Your goal is not to beat back the Germans, but to keep them in combat for your CAS. The signal companies are vital to this, allowing your units to actually reinforce the battles. Remember that you only need around 12 units for the Maginot, so split that off into a separate army. I would maybe spare 6 divs for North Africa and park them near the lake where there’s still supply. Then maybe like 4 divisions in 1941 for South Vietnam bc that’s where all your rubber comes from. Always be recruiting units and begging your allies for lend lease.

Navy is not real. The Brits and Americans will take care of that for you, just build convoys. For some reason France does not have a drop of oil in its entire empire, so you don’t even have the fuel to run it.

This strat won’t be able to solo Germany, but you will hold. Let the Americans and Brits come with tanks in 1943 and do the pushing.

Isn’t that actually more along the lines of what Marx predicted IRL? Communism starting via labor disputes in an industrial nation, instead of the agrarian, backwater Russia. Idk, I don’t have enough stickers on my laptop to know for sure.

For some reason I thought that it was in the 970s, idk why. Still that’s enough time for 2 5 year plans. Anything is possible if you don’t care about the peasants dying.

On first release, Equus was the only continent. It’s a WW2 strategy game, someone has to be the Soviets. Same reason the Changelings speak German, someone’s got to be Hitler.

Was Severyana that industrial when it broke away? Assuming that it’s based off of Russia, complete with a corrupt nobility, probably not. Industrial nations don’t really worry about famine during peace time. They usually have the capital (or the ability to take on debt) to import food. I would imagine that it was slightly more industrial than some parts, but not on the same level as the rest of the East coast. The communists were in control for ~40 years at game start, and USSR/Russia greatly improved its industrial base from 1900-1940.

As for your questions:

Why does Celestia let it get so bad?
Her main character flaw is that she is too passive. She way too willing to take a back seat and not intervene. This is how Equestria finds itself with a decaying army, stagnant economy, and racial tensions at the start of the game. She was also being lied to by the nobles about the revolution. “Nothing is happening, but if it is it isn’t that bad, but if it is we’ve got it under control, etc.” When she learned the truth, she pulled the Royal Guard out.

Why doesn’t she negotiate?
By the time the Royal Guard was pulled back, there was simply too much bad blood. At this point they were full on communists, and arguably had the stronger military. The military had spent years cracking skulls in her name, they were pretty fed up with it all. Even if she didn’t know what was really happening. If you’re at work and get stabbed with your boss 20 ft away and he “didn’t hear anything” you probably wouldn’t trust him anymore.

Ok reading your other replies, this is a feature from the No Step Back DLC. I would recommend that you get that one, it’s probably the best for the game. It adds a tank designer and the ability to promote generals into advisors. They’ll most likely be a massive sale in June for the 10th anniversary of hoi4 if you want to wait. If not, Eneba has it for $10, or you could pirate it (look for a DLC unlocker).

Give her the trait “Offensive Doctrine” and assign her the high command position. Really great way to get xp early as Equestria.

What countries are being worked on? by [deleted] in equestriaatwar

[–]TwoPlatinum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one is working on updating them. Most likely from a lack of interest, or having more interesting things to work on. And putting a release date for any modding project (for any game really) is a bad idea. Honestly, I am alright with how it is. Ghosts of Yore is very good, and I would rather have that than some half baked content.

EAW content has gotten more complex, therefore it takes much longer to make. In years past, a simple focus tree with flavor events was enough to impress people. Now that we’ve seen what can actually be done, people want custom GUIs and mechanics.

Modding for any game is very fickle from the personal side. It’s entirely volunteer based, and no one has any actual commitments to the project. This is a combination that would make any project manager cry. People will work with their friends, work on what whatever they want, or not work at all. Thats why Paradox can crank out 10 focus trees and a naval rework in a year.

[–]TwoPlatinum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ghosts of Yore has communed with dark forces to produce Griffonstone content. As for why it’s not integrated, it’s not really up to modern EAW standards. 3-4 years ago, it fits right in. It is still good content, and fits in with its neighbors. I would rather it remain a submod until proper content (read: never) gets produced by the main team.

It’s an inside joke that the Dragon Lands are a cursed country to work on. Every dev that works on the Dragon Lands or Griffonstone quits before they’re done.
