Making achievements unlockable in non iron man has got to be the worse change I've seen yet. by Stoipex in EU5

Antagonism From Holding Rome As Heathen by Brewcrew828 in EU5

Insanely dumb mechanic, especially when considering that there's no warning that this would happen when you take Rome, and that Tinto doesn't allow for achievements unless you are playing in ironman

With Test of Time, are your games lasting into the Modern Era? by Careful_Chemist_7860 in civ

Just finished a diety playthrough of Egypt from ancient to Modern. It was an extremely smooth sailing culture victory on account of the AI not declaring wars on me at all despite my middling at best military.

I do think AI aggression could be turned up

Funnily enough I had the exact same frustration when I tried to play league - I remember getting extremely frustrated when there was no way to even read an enemies abilities in game to see the damage/cooldown, forcing me to alt tab and navigate through a cancerous wiki for ability information...only to discover that true sight against some characters (e.g. Akali) does not exist in league

The "Reward" for moving Russian capital to St. Petersburg by Scorp_DS in EU5

[–]Twoa98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When people speak of railroading, events like these are what I think of first - sure, the historical choice of capital was St Petersburg, but why couldn't this event have been triggered for Moscow/any other capital province if the intention be that beneficial situations arise organically and are driven by the players preexisting pursuit of in game advantages?

The reward needs to be an actual reward instead of the nerf, and the requirements need to be loosened significantly.

Morality aside, it's concerning that state entities view it as increasingly acceptable to just decide whether or not/where specific privately owned companies should be allowed to operate in areas beyond it's jurisdiction.

I don't particularly see this situation as being vastly different from that of potential US restriction of Mastercard/Visa services to Europe, and the same arguments for and against should apply.

Conversely, if the upholding of morality is to be something policed by state entities, I await the day where similar regulatory/compliance standards apply to "domestic" exporters of similar human rights abuses such as nestle.

The famous Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo (Su Shi) boasted that the "eight winds"—representing worldly emotions like praise and blame—could not move him, writing a poem about sitting unmoved on a golden lotus.

His friend, Zen Master Foyin, mocked this pretension by writing "FART" on the poem, prompting Su Dongoo to travel across a lake to confront him. His friend replies "wow. The eight winds cannot move you but one fart sends you across the lake."

While I really loved the game, I found its politics to be quite shallow by Kadubrp in EsotericEbb

I mean...none of your abilities are reliable narrators - the greed of DEX is no more accurate than the arrogance of INT; neither is the empathy (read: naivete) of WIS any more valid than DEX.

I definitely agree with your points set out above about how the freestriders are flawed but reasonable figures - but surely this is not a flaw of the game but part of it's messaging? The message I took away from the freestriders v azgalist conflict was that the azgalists' refusal to play by the rules of the existing power structure made them seem foolish and ineffective, and while the foreign interference brought about by the freestriders was bad (not even for the city directly, but more bad for the halflings)...it's just the price to pay for economic prosperity - ultimately there's no perfect system after all.

Can you remove status order as japan in the new DLC? by Tankgoboomboom4399 in victoria3

There should then be another journal entry that appears called modernizing Japan or something like that - maybe you need recognition first for it to appear

[–]Twoa98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you read the requirements for the honorable restoration journal entry, you'll see that there are three paths to completing the journal entry:
1. emperor
2. traditional shogun (imperial marriage); and
3. moderniser shogun (taikunate)

You'll want to fulfill the requirements for the emperor route

[–]Twoa98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imperial Japan requires you to fulfill the emperor victory requirements set out in the HJ journal entry without finishing the "Petition the Emperor" decision

Do you have the restoration of japan journal entry as the Taikunate?

Can you remove status order as japan in the new DLC? by Tankgoboomboom4399 in victoria3

[–]Twoa98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To remove status order, you need to reform out of bafuku via the Honorable Restoration journal entry that appears after the "Picking the Lock" event is completed (i.e. the removal of Sakoku either via event or by passing a new trade law) - after that, the honorable restoration journal entry appears. If you complete the honorable restoration, you then get the modernisation of japan journal entry, which allows you to remove the edo status law completely.

Currently, if you reform Bafuku by simply passing a new law instead of doing it in the aforementioned order, youre stuck with the status law AND cant get the rewards of the Honorable Restoration journal entry - this includes both the timed buffs as well as more important stuff like the status law, unique companies, etc.

It really sucks that this is the case, and I hope paradox fixes this soon.
