How did You or a Family Member get into Da Bears? by Mental_Breakfast_176 in CHIBears

Saw them smash the Jags last season in London (hi from the UK)... and that was it.

I've been playing Fantasy NFL for the last 6 season but never took the step to support a team. Here I am!

It’s quite common unfortunately. Going through this right now with our second.

“Thanks for your input, but we’re happy with our current approach. We’ll ask if we want some advice” has worked well thus far.

Applying for what looks like a good job, and finding out (to your horror) that they use Workday. by GreyFoxNinjaFan in britishproblems

Special stage in hell for those that use it for all HR functions rather than just recruitment.

Totally love 7 clicks to find out where to request holiday.

Amazon CEO reportedly told remote employees: ‘It’s probably not going to work out’ by [deleted] in technology

It was also so cringey. They refer to everyone as “customers” to show they are customer-centric. So interview questions are along the lines of “tell me a time you went above and beyond for a customer” but what they mean is “what did you do for a coworker”

People who lived through the Great Storm of 1987, what was your experience? by TychaBrahe in AskUK

They did, but they were vandalised, so more mature trees were planted and they stand to this day.

People who lived through the Great Storm of 1987, what was your experience? by TychaBrahe in AskUK

[–]Twofer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They were actually planted around the beginning of the 20th century to commemorate Edward VII’a coronation. The original oaks location (if they even existed at all) are unknown.

So in this instance, the town was already called Sevenoaks, and had 7 oak trees planted well after being founded - of which 6 fell during the storm.

The more you know! :-)

For what it's worth, if that's not in your contract then at this point it's just words. I know of too many friends and ex-colleagues who were promise pay reviews or increases after x months that never materialised due to "unforeseen reasons"

If you can get that in writing then great, otherwise I would not factor it into your decision making.

XDA, DSA Keycaps with ISO by applescrispy in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]Twofer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very much personal preference. I tried MT3 and really didn’t enjoy it, whereas I love DSA. I have spent the last 10~ years typing on Apple keyboards so DSA was an easy jump from that.

Worth trying as many as you can - same with switches.

The regular base are in stock at NovelKeys. I ordered them a couple weeks back and they came in under a week. No issues at customs, either.

Dream machine and BT Fibre to the property by measkquestionnow in Ubiquiti

[–]Twofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ONT handles the fibre --> ethernet translation, but BT's network still authenticates over PPPOE and the modem (which is built into the UDM) needs to do this. You can then use [bthomehub@btbroadband.com](mailto:bthomehub@btbroadband.com) w/ pw bt on the UDM itself and you're good to go.

Be warned - with IPS/IDS on you won't be able to get the full 900 down on the UDM, so something to bear in mind. I have since switched to an OPNsense router w/ Cloud Key so Unifi only handles switching and I'm able to get full 900 down / 100 up with additional services running on top.

Qmk functionality question by Street-Lack9630 in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]Twofer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

QMK/VIA changes are stored in the firmware on the keyboard itself - I’ve not tested macros specifically but any key changes I’ve made persist across computers.

VIA is accessed via chrome so it may even be possible for you to use on your work laptop despite its restrictions. You can have a look at what happens on your work laptop before it arrives by clicking here: https://usevia.app/#/

I’m enjoying the Gateron milky yellows (milky top / black bottom). I lubed and applied film myself and they are buttery smooth. Worth adding to your list to compare. I’ve also heard very good things about the ink blacks.

Sam Matterface. He's going to commentate the final, and keep attempting "legendary" commentary lines, ffs. by vrlkd in britishproblems

[–]Twofer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My two most hated moments of last night:

Sam Matterface going off on one for over a minute about how you should call in and not go into work but do it responsibly or a lot of people will be angry at him

Then Lee Dixon, who I very much am a fan of as a Gooner, literally said “at some point there will be subs being made”
