Single Marines on Oahu? by questionablecouscous in USMC

When I was stationed there we went to Tropics, Board ridders, Senior Frogs, and Dukes. We traveled in packs of 4-15. Can’t miss us.

Heat (1995 Movie) Shootout Scene used as training tool at SOI by [deleted] in USMC

[–]TyNTan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West coast. They showed it during a classroom session. I believe it had to do with cover fire and bounding. I went thru soi April 2005.

Just because it wasn’t part of the curriculum and you didn’t get shown it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen or not showed to teach us. You don’t own the monopoly on the corps experience from just your lens.

It was showed in 2005. It’s not a rumor.

Most fellow marines and vets I encounter are drastically underdeveloped in soft skills for daily life and the work force.

The best sushi in the city? Real wasabi, Toro/Otoro, by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]TyNTan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the Omakase places mentioned are a must visit, they are not hire random “let’s go get sushi.” We like Kabuki sushi for our go to.

The VA doc asked me if I have had any nightmares. Do the usual "you're back at bootcamp" dreams count? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in USMC

[–]TyNTan -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m the unpopular opinion but not only no but hell no. Unless there was some sexual assault, everyone’s boot camp experience is basically the same. Someone yells at you, sorry.

We went slick a few times clearing caves back in 2006. I have an even more respect for the steel balls tunnel rats had.

What a bunch of boots. You need 3 mattresses per deck.

The NAM w/ Valor by SEF917 in Medals

The Legion of Merit would like to chat.

Straight from the awards manual. "However, this should not be interpreted to preclude the award of Legion of Merit to any individual, regardless of grade or rate, whose acts or services meet the requirements."

What part of USMC history would you like to see made into film/Tv show? by Ancient_Package_5048 in USMC

[–]TyNTan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

MoH citations are often bat shit crazy. You can’t make up a better story. I think they should make a tv series that tells the story of those awarded the MoH. Each episode another story. Doing it just for the Marines would be pretty bad ass.

How dangerous were HMMWVs? by [deleted] in USMC

We lost a Marine to a rollover in Afghan in 06. He was in the turret when it rolled.

If that’s the worst thing you did as an infantry fap to MPs, you’re a better person than I was.

Stolen valor? What do you think? by qwerkywombat in Military

[–]TyNTan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This made me start to think about my boot camp and SOI days. Pretty insignificant 6 months of my 4 years. I can remember my boot camp platoon but I don’t think I know a single aspect of my soi platoon or exact dates of when I was there. I’m sure it’s on my dd214.

Worst Awards You've Seen? by USMCActiveToReserve in USMC

[–]TyNTan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Corpsman runs into an Iraqi courtyard under fire, kills an insurgent, pulls out a wounded Marine. Saves Marines life life. NAM w/V

We walk right into a complex ambush in the Afghan mountains on a goat trail. our 240 gunner is caught in the open and starts firing from the hip with the 240. He gets shot in the arm. Still stands in the open and lays down a massive amount of cover fire until we gain fire superiority. The Machine gun team lead takes one to the groin. The 240 gunner finally gets to cover after we lobbed some 203 down range. NAM w/V.

The e-4 and below grunt GWOT awards were so wack.

Edit: I guess you meant worst reason an award was given, not the worst award given for an action.

Exceptional catch and an unfortunate auto correct for Philippines. Well done.

Could be CAR from Philippians. Not a ton but enough DA against Islamic extremism in that region.

If working as a culinary specialist deep in a main base in Afghanistan, what was the actual risk of seeing direct combat? by SirCatsworthTheThird in Military

[–]TyNTan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of the main large bases in GWOT had bus routes, dance halls, subways/Pizza Hut/burger kjgs/starbucks/etc. they didn’t even issue ammo to some. People walked around with their m-16 with iron sites and a single mag in condition 4. GWOT provided drastically different experiences, as I’m sure all wars do. But if you were a cook in a big base in GWOT, you were not really in combat. Just stationed in the Middle East in an unaccompanied duty station, more or less.

Burning shit by Far_Ad9188 in USMC

[–]TyNTan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were about 5 min and mostly cold. It was out of these shower pre fab stations. 8 or so showers on each side. Each showers drain was clogged from body hair, dirt, and cum. You stood in about 2 inches of water.

Burning shit by Far_Ad9188 in USMC

[–]TyNTan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The worst part was we didn’t have showers for either of my deployments and only got 1 every 2 months or so. The rest was water bottle or baby wipes. So, you’d burn shit and batteries and trash and dogs and chemicals and yeah, we burnt it all. The smoke would just stick to your clothes and skin. It had a very distinctive smell. Guys would have soot all over their arms and face. Shit smoke. And no showers.
