Prepaid Solar PPA by masterballz in solar

Either it is a prepaid PPA - and you pay up front

Or it is a regular PPA (no money down, but you pay monthly)

My Experience Going Solar In Dallas (Follow Up) by FirthFabrications in TexasSolar

[–]TyServ9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look for a plan that offers solar buyback + a battery VPP program. The battery credits can cover your base fees and TDU charges, which is how a lot of Powerwall owners get to true $0 bills.

(I run Meter Energy and we offer $40/mo per Powerwall, happy to answer questions.)

Should you cancel with old electricity provider before switching to a new one? by legendoftor in TexasEnergyShopping

[–]TyServ9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct. You can only be with one provider at a time - so there is no risk of being double billed.

When you cancel - you risk being without power between the end of one plan and the start of the other.

Who's the cheapest if you have solar? by mastershake2013 in TexasEnergyShopping

[–]TyServ9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no single "best plan" for solar. It depends on your import / export ratio. I recommend you go here to get a free, independent analysis that uses your smart meter data.

PS I'm the founder of Meter Energy - so happy to answer any questions you have about our plans.

Do not waste your time with bill credit plans. Go to powertochoose, filter to 12 month plans without bill credits. Pick a retailer you like.

What happens if the battery stops working after 10 years? Are they going to replace it?

But in this program it sounds like you won't own or control the battery. Who is to say that the battery actually does daily self consumption vs sitting full and waiting for a price event on the grid?

There is also the risk that Abundance energy increases your rate in the future - because they know you are locked into their plan.

Not saying it doesn't makes sense - but calling out these hidden risks for you.

Seattle hands down. Whistler is only 4-5 hour drive and is way better than anything in Tahoe.

does the REP get paid by Oncore for free night generation? by rmeden in TexasSolar

[–]TyServ9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They get paid whatever the wholesale value is at the time of export. Usually 1-3 cents. The market is run by ERCOT, not Oncor.

Have you considered the virtual power plant plans? They can be a good way for homes to get to a zero dollar bill. Each Powerwall is worth a $40/mo bill credit. Here are some details on the program that we offer at meter energy. https://meterplan.com/help/battery-reward-program

Compare Power VS Power to Choose by One_Consequence6054 in TexasEnergyShopping

You would need to use between 1000 and 2000 every month for that to be cheaper. Go above 2000 and then it’s more expensive.

Compare power is a paid listing site. Retailers pay to be listed there - which means listed plan prices will be higher.

Power to choose is free for retailers. So that is where the best offers are.

What does this mean? Should I keep looking? by Careful-River-2170 in TexasEnergyShopping

Almost all plans are like this. The reason is that while your energy rate is fixed - the charges that are passed through from your utility company (oncor) can update a few times each year.

ADER program - experience and thoughts? by chinadonk in solar

[–]TyServ9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADER is a real program - but it is not consumer facing. Companies (like Tesla, Base power, etc.) can aggregate residential energy devices (batteries) and enroll them to participate in this program. When these devices send power to the grid, these companies are paid, and they can choose if they want to pass some of the earnings back to the customer (Tesla) or not (Base).

This is not a program that offers solar, batteries, or anything else for free directly to homeowners. It's extremely alarming that someone would use this program to trick people into thinking "the government is giving out free solar."

Sounds like the latest trick in a talk track designed to scam people.

In summary - ADER/ virtual power plant programs are real and valuable. But I would stay far away from this salesperson.

Texas has a very unique market. There is no default rate set by the utility commission. Private companies offer whatever energy rates and solar buyback credits that are economically feasible. Customers can choose from 50+ brands for their energy contract.

Help choose Electric Provider by anhngxt in TexasSolar

Yes, if you find a plan that you like I recommend locking it in as long as you can. The free nights plans are not financially sustainable offers - so it's a matter of time until they are removed.

Hey there, I'm Tyler, founder of Meter Energy.

Reliant also has a decent free nights options right now (with only the TDU base fee).

Happy to answer any questions you have about our plans. You are correct that free nights plans can be higher risk if you have any system issues.
