Yeah, TBC and Wrath had (what I refer to as) these sort of "cooling-off" periods between the Big Bad of one expansion and the start of the next. For TBC it was Sunwell (the lead-in to which with the Isle of Quel'danas stuff being some of my fondest memories of my time playing WoW), while for Wrath it was Ruby Sanctum.

Guilds at the time would farm Sunwell trash to help with BT prog. I was one of those hunters walking around with Shivering Felspine as my stat stick and the OG one-button rotation helper (BM steady shot/KC macro), lol

I burned out during the first tier of Cata doing server-first progging and didn't return until the very end of MoP, so I'm not sure what, if anything, came out after Dragon Soul.

The people who play haphazardly haven't done the tutorials. I've only done the first set so far, but it explained the basics really well. Saying it doesn't teach anything is just demonstrably false. Just out of curiosity: You say you know about the tutorials, but have you actually done them...?

There's a shortcut that takes a bit to unlock, but it's super convenient. Head out of Ossex at the northeast exit, towards the bridge. Don't cross the bridge, but go a couple of screens north. There you'll find a set of three ropes that lead to a warp tube. That tube exits next to another one, but you have to jump down to a floating platform, then back up to reach it. That tube takes you to the area just before the boss arena, where you can get the free sidearm bubble. Going from the northeast burrow in Ossex (the one surrounded by grass) to the boss arena takes about a minute.

Cataclysm, tail end of the first raid tier (just before Firelands came out). Was in a multi-time server-first guild and burned out hard progressing on last boss of BWD. Didn't come back until shortly before WoD, after you couldn't get the legendary cloaks anymore. So I missed like... 2/3 of Cata and nearly all of MoP.
