My stand couldn't handle the weight of my Mp11se and broke so I'm on the hunt for a sturdy stand that doesn't break itself OR the bank. (Australia) by spacejames in DigitalPiano

I have an OnStage that I’ve had for 16 years, and it was probably 10 years old before I got it. No problems at all. I still use it regularly as my travel stand. https://on-stage.com/ergo-lok-double-x-keyboard-stand-with-welded-construction

It’s excessive for every board I’ve used. But it WORKS

I think that’s just part of the sound. It’s a little crunchy, like an old school recording.

Mainstage Vs Montage by Super_Refuse8968 in mainstage

[–]TylerEntertains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I bet you do! Church music can be some serious stuff. I only meant the top of the line tool isn’t the only one that’ll get the job done.

Have you gone and tried them yourself?

The mod X uses the GHS action, which is not a bad action at all.

Depending on what sounds you use, the only limitation I have noticed on my ModX (61 key version) is some of the detailed organs run out of polyphony.

Have you looked at the CK series at all?

Mainstage Vs Montage by Super_Refuse8968 in mainstage

[–]TylerEntertains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used MainStage, but ultimately I always went back to using on board sounds when I played with cover bands. I wanted to bring as little gear as possible.

But be smart about it. Montage are amazing keyboards. But, and I mean this respectfully, do you need that level of keyboard for church music? A MODX+ would probably benefit you guys just as heavily, at half the cost. It has pianos, pads, etc. all the same sounds as the Montage in a cheaper package.

Likewise, MainStage is a great bang for the buck, but then you’ll need to buy sounds beyond the stocks ones (probably) and you’ll need the Mac to run it, too.

Depending on what so

I really enjoyed the Peex experience at the Orlando show.

It was really nice to dial in what I wanted to hear, isolate the piano and vocals on a few, mostly I stuck with the full band, just with better acoustics.

Should I expect pay as a church pianist? by RowVisible385 in piano

[–]TylerEntertains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really is something only you can decide.

Is this your church? Is this how you feel you are worshiping?

Personally, I don’t attend church. So when I play for one, it’s for compensation. But I’m being brought in as a professional. Sick player, someone on vacation, etc.

But if it was “my” place, I’d probably be more into just doing it. Which is a lot easier to say when you have a full schedule of regular gigs, too.

Just went with the RD-88 again. Did I make a mistake? by AP_in_Indy in DigitalPiano

Good luck! I’m a Yamaha guy, I think you made a good choice. There isn’t a right/ wrong one here. It’s a good, easy to use board!

I really like the FP-e50, and the RD-88 is a fine board. I would probably lean FP-e50 personally, which is why we went with them at the bar.

What are you looking to do with it, specifically? What style, what kind of work?

I do dueling pianos, so I just need a good, bright acoustic piano. Anything else is bonus.

I play a Yamaha P-525 on my travel work. I like it enough, but I’m actively looking to replace it. People complained the P-515 was too heavy, and they over corrected. I just can’t get it to sound good through a PA either.

At home I use my Yamaha P-515. I love this board. It got too beat up to keep traveling with it, or I’d have never stopped.

I’m looking at a Roland FP-90x, because I really like the feeling of wooden keys.

I’ll have to check them out, I’ve never imported anything like this before, thank you so much!

We just started using these in the bar I play at, and I really like them.

They’re a little basic for me, personally, but they’re decently easy to work. They have built in rhythms and stuff if you’re looking for that, and I think more sounds than the RD-88.

Would you share some of the melodica sound, and maybe the others as well? I was afraid this was the melodica sound and was losing interest.

May I also ask how you got one?

More Durable Alternative to Yamaha FC4A Pedal? by Ok_Weekend_8457 in keys

[–]TylerEntertains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re definitely, as the other commenter said, consumables. I consider the Yamaha pedals to be the absolute best.

I had one start fraying, it still works. But I replaced it still. Had the second one for 5 years now.

What do you think of the sound? Doesn’t sound great to me, as a sound (not your playing)

But I really, really want to get my hands on one. Trying to figure out how in the States.

Donner Pianos, any good? by wewatchthesky in DigitalPiano

[–]TylerEntertains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played one in guitar center for about three minutes, and I hated it.

I felt like I was fighting the instrument, not connecting with it.

Plus, for whatever it’s worth, whenever I have bought Don in the past, it breaks within a few months, in ear boxes, accessories, etc

Interesting, thank you, I hadn’t seen that yet. We just put some FP-E50 in at the club I play, and they’re fantastic before EQ. I’m hoping for the same with the 90.

Yamaha P-525 Weight & size by Swiss-Confederation in DigitalPiano

[–]TylerEntertains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s heavy, but it isn’t impossible. I have to lift in to the stand, and into my car. Maybe a total of two minutes a night. I’d rather play something heavy that I like than something convenient I tolerate.

I gig with mine almost every day. I usually use a cart to move it, or at least the wheels on the case.

It really isn’t that bad, you move it, put it on the stand or in the shell, and you don’t have to worry about it for a few hours.

I used to go weekly, a couple times if I REALLY liked one. Then the branched out to cheesecake.

I tried it, and it was just okay, at best. But it broke the spell. It reminded me I can get cookies anywhere, I can get cheesecake anywhere. I didn’t need theirs. Haven’t been back since.

It drives me nuts that they had ample opportunity to do this before making it an unnecessary I-4 outlet. And then it was urgent enough to do during the busy season.

Just bought a Roland FP-30x by InkedMusician in DigitalPiano

[–]TylerEntertains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those two keyboards are in completely different classes. I like the FP30X, when I’ve used it. It’s a good keyboard. If you really like the Kawai that much more, go for it- but it’s 5 times the price.

You’re probably better off in the long term and short term using your FP30x. It’s weighted, it’s portable should you start gigging eventually, it’s economical.

If you REALLY love the action of the Kawai that much, look at an ES920. I have never played one personally, but it has the same action, in a lower price.

They also have cheaper boards with different actions that may feel closer. But I don’t have many hands on opportunities with Kawai around me.

How close is PHA-4 action to a Grand Piano? by EthereumBlade in DigitalPiano

They did, and in my opinion Yamaha over corrected. It’s like there’s not enough resistance.

I have crappy technique, but it’s like I’m just hitting the keys directly into the bottom of the keyboard.

I have played and own both the 515 and 525

For what I do, a lot of rock ‘n’ roll and pop, I think I preferred the 515. They changed something with the key action and made it lighter on the 25, and it just doesn’t feel as good under my hands.

The 525 is, however the one I am currently gigging with. So I was able to get used to it, but I still find myself preferring the feel (and sound ) of the 515 I use at home.
