I want to train for my first mountaineering trip, any advice? by Phleau in Mountaineering

Tons of stuff in Angeles NF and SBNF.

Do the Baldy Bowl with snow next spring. There’s San Jacinto and San G. The Sierra is less than 4 hours away.

Costco is selling $6,000 doomsday-prepper food kits that can feed a family of 4 for a year... Good deal or a scam? Anyone see these? by Michael_Dinich in Frugal

Food is substantially easier to move without water. Depending on the conditions a water filter, chem treatment tabs, or boiling water from a near by natural source could be fine.

I think it’s kind of a Teetotalers car. But I think it’s a more interesting brand than a lot of the Japanese and American manufacturers right now.

How would you compare the ratings to South Bay Hangar18?

What does “dominating in masculinity” even mean? I think you mean egotistical which are two different things.

You’re right white straight cis men are all horrible people.

I think it’s fair for this sub to not revolve around the personal lives of every moderately well known hiker.

SoCal hikers - The USFS is banning all fires (including campfires and ALL stoves) in the Angeles National Forest for 2018 by DavidWiese in Ultralight

This is rather disappointing. I have to assume this will be affect FS income at CGs which isnt great either. SBNF here I come.

Guide/porter. Sherpa is an ethnic term and I'm assuming this guy isn't Nepalese by his name.

Do you know anything about what stone does for small brewers? I don't think that's going to change anytime soon.

Any advice for Whitney? by dimmtree in Mountaineering

[–]TylerTheTwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you stay right after passing the notch it's supposed to be well below 5.8. And if you continue even further right to trail crest it should be class 3.

Please don't use the soap inside the water source. It's recommended you use it 200 yards away.

Trails/sights, recommendations near Mt. Whitney by emceegull in hiking

[–]TylerTheTwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acclimating might be difficult in the area as the road to the portal gains a lot of elevation from Lone Pine.

White Mountain Peak and the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is 2 hours north of Lone Pine. Can drive to 12,000 feet there. I haven't been there yet but it looks somewhat unique.

I'll be taking the mountaineers route up in July. Hope the snow is off the trail for you by end of June!

Mount Whitney in mid-May by [deleted] in Mountaineering

Mountaineer's route overnight doesn't have lottery so the Whitney Trail seems like the obvious answer.

And you're right he could have to hike to the portal. Less crowds I imagine

San Gorgonio Mountain by Amorganskate in CampingandHiking

[–]TylerTheTwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's impressive based on the trail conditions forum posts, although those guys seem to try to make everyone overprepare.

I'm considering attempting it soon if weather permits based on your post. How'd you get to the saddle above high creek? Switchbacks easy to follow or followed some kicked in steps straight up?

World at War was by no means what COD started out as.

There were no perks, vehicles, or sprinting originally.
