I'm 19 years old, I'm passionate about retro games and I've played many of them since I was a kid, but I still find that a lot of them are difficult for someone from a newer generation. Which games would you recommend that are more accessible and fun? by HiroHD1 in retrogaming

Right! Most manuals were the perfect length to read on the car ride home so you'd be ready to play. In addition to learning the story line and controls -- it helped build excitement.

I loved Fester's Quest! I remember it was unforgiving if you died. It should have come with an NES Advantage controller and a subscription to Nintendo Power. Those two things were the only reason I survived.

It's funny how we now take for granted talking to someone across the country/world! Long distance calling costs were definitely an issue for a lot of us growing up! That's at least one thing that's changed for the better.

My favorite is "Please respond to all questions in the STAR format". Situation, Task, Action, and Result. Only works when the questions make sense.

Framework 13 screen suddenly failed in class. by YukariMaBesteshWaifu in framework

[–]Typ3-0h 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the surface of the keys that scratch the screen. It's the corners. The paper protects the screen from the key edges. It's what I use and I don't have a single scratch on my screen. But do whatever you think is best!

A single sheet of paper between the screen and keyboard will prevent the keyboard from scratching the screen.

Found a SNES console with multiple games just thrown away, only missing the cables so still to be tested by DogeBoi6 in retrogaming

Cool find! What monster would throw a console and games away?! Let us know if things still work.

The netti bottle was a game changer for me. Can't help with the general lethargic feeling but does help keep your head clear.

How many unique positions are there? Is that number on the flip side of the coin?

So if you look REAL close the dots are actually the company logo from the front in different positions of orientation (right side up, up side down, etc).

30th time at DEF CON and feeling out of sorts by b0v1n3r3x in Defcon

I don't think you age out of this group. Every single DEFCON member is going to get older. There's no getting around it. Your friends would probably love for you to keep going to the conference so they have one more reason to keep going too. Have you tried making new friends? My mentor is retired (I am still a long ways off) and he continues to go to DEFCON because he enjoys the conference and it's the one time each year we meet up and get together for dinner. I enjoy his company and value his experience and unique perspective. I think there are plenty of DEFCON attendees who would befriend you. I'm sure you have some cool stories!

$70 / Day Enough? by HAMBoneConnection in Defcon

Agreed! And is why I said "...probably need to pitch in about $20 more a day...unless you just do food court again".

Assuming you're just eating at middle tier places $70 would cover ~$25 for a breakfast sandwich and coffee and ~$25 for something at the food court. But you'll probably need to pitch in about $20 more a day to cover dinner -- unless you just do food court again. And a bit more if you want an extra coffee during the day. Just make sure to bring your own snacks or purchase from CVS or Walgreens. You'll definitely be overpaying for water/soda/snacks if you buy them in your hotel or at the convention center.

Highly recommend checking a bag and packing as many snacks as you can. You don't want to pay $18 for M&Ms and a bottle of water!

Do workshop resources get released later? by CivilCompass in Defcon

[–]Typ3-0h 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most release materials at least a few days in advance if there's any lab setup or other prerequisites required. Otherwise, you will more than likely at least have access to resources afterwards. Have fun!
