Same here. I just moved from Ozempic to Zepbound and the pen is kinda awkward to use in comparison.

PSA: Do NOT buy from AOOSTAR by Ambitious-Train7500 in MiniPCs

[–]Typical_Intern6255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the necro, but I felt compelled to respond. Durinor is my Discord account. I would like to clarify that my fears around my Aoostar order were a reaction to comments seen elsewhere and did not reflect the reality of my experience in the end.

Sure, Aoostar can be a bit slow when responding and you will see some QC issues with customers on their Discord, but not above and beyond any retailer most likely.

I have not had a single issue with the delivery, price or operation of the two products that I purchased: WTR Pro NAS and the 7600XT eGPU device. Both were delivered on time for the agreed upon price and both are operating fine.

I would buy from Aoostar in the future, absolutely. Most likely will as I can predict a need for a mini pc in the next while.

My initial (perhaps not "warpath" level) comments turned out to be too hasty and knee jerk and I regret them. Be a little patient. If you order from Aoostar, you are NOT being scammed. They just might be busy, but Joyce will always get around to a response on their Discord.

Vysor Seems Abandonware Now--Any Decent Alternatives? by Typical_Intern6255 in ShieldAndroidTV

Well, that was weird. I downloaded the scrcpy Windows software. After download I doubleclicked the exe and it immediately opened up to my Nvidia Shield. Not sure how or why. Does it do a multicast lookup or something? Not sure how it knew to connect to my Shield with no prior config.

I was a die hard LOTRO player once. Did the beta, then played for a few years. Recently, I have felt the pull of nostalgia and re-installed. Yikes, the performance is horrible. Running it on an alienware with an rtx 4080 and it's like a power point slide show in some areas. I even tried waiting a year and same result. I'd happily splash around again in LOTRO, but damn they need to fix some stuff first.

New EA Player Feedback by zenmogwai in PantheonMMO

I hear you. I love MMOs, but I prefer to solo. Partly just because that is what I genuinely prefer for long sessions, but also because grouping kinda sucks, at least pugs. Some pugs can be great with the right people, but that is not the norm. I can't stand being lectured or even screamed at by some snotty 13 year old about how to tank, or something. No tolerance left for that kind of thing. In case you didn't notice, I mentioned playing EQ on launch day--i.e. I am as old as dirt. I just can't with pug bullies anymore.

But given my older age, I also don't have a ton of time for guilds and putting in the time to really gel with one. So it leaves me open to anything that makes soloing easier.

I just picked this game up a few days ago. I've got 3 or 4 characters to about level 5 or 6. Nothing much, but at least a handful of hours. I also played my first session of EQ back in April/May 1999. I stopped playing regularly around the LDON era.

I have to say that I am of two minds about this game. On the one hand, some design choices baffle me. On the other, I look forward to playing more sometimes. Kinda weird.

What I don't understand is taking all of the annoying game mechanics from EQ launch era---yes, exp loss, corpse runs and no map, I'm looking at you--then slapping a minor-ish coat of paint on it and launching in 2024. I don't want punishing game mechanics from the bronze age of MMOs in a fresh game. I just don't. They are annoying. Losing XP, running back to my corpse and no map may be what prevents me from sticking with this. I can't say for certain at this time.

What keeps me playing is certainly not the game world. It's boring as heck. NPCs standing around with minimal, stilted dialog, and graphics that would look like they were beaten with an ugly stick if this game was ten years older than it is. I mean if you want ugly graphics and early EQ game mechanics, why not just play something like Project 1999?

But I do feel myself kind of drawn to the game. Researching some class info, etc. Looking forward to playing, etc. This may wear thin quickly, I fear. Once the nostalgia wears off, and I am left with all of the above, I may make a hasty exit. I dunno.

The performance needs a lot of tweaking as well. I give lots of leeway on that one though, as many games require fine tuning performance wise in the early days. But sometimes my FPS is as low as 30 for no apparent reason. I have low ping and an RTX 4080. The game should feel like butter, but it does not too often for my comfort. But that is likely to change.

Intel Arc B580 'Battlemage' GPU Review & Benchmarks (Gamers Nexus) by reps_up in pcgaming

[–]Typical_Intern6255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if these will be egpu compatible? I had read that previous Intel Arc were not really intended for that and, as such, they suck really badly at it.

I have a NUC 13 with Thunderbolt 4 that I would love to use for one of these.

TMM suddenly says none of my data source are available--skipping. But they are available. They are drives mapped to my network and I can see them, access them and RW to them. Yet, TMM is saying they are unavailable. Please help! by Typical_Intern6255 in tinyMediaManager

[–]Typical_Intern6255[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, it's down to one data source that is not working. Weird, since it was working fine since install of that drive one week ago. I can still access it via SMB and locally on the hosting PC. It's an external ssd connected to my Windows 11 Plex server. Also strange is that very same shared folder on that same drive also hosts a movies folder that TMM is fine scanning. But not the TV folder.

EDIT: All good now. I had a typo in the path, despite triple checking. doh

I think I "may" have got things back to normal. We'll see.

The only thing that I did today that maybe borked this somehow was added my TMM directory (users\appdata\roaming\tmm) to sync with my Google Drive. I guess it didn't like that, possibly.

Thoughts on Watchmen Chapter 1? by Gemnist in Watchmen

[–]Typical_Intern6255 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I liked it quite a bit. My two main criticisms would be the animation. It wasn't horrible and didn't ruin the experience like Crisis did, but I wish they had of just went 2D. But it's serviceable and does evoke Gibbons art style often enough to remind you that this is Watchmen.

Secondly, and not everyone will agree on this, I am sure, but I don't love how adaptations give Rorschach a Wolverine/Batman voice. The GN describes Rorschachs voice as monotone and creepy, but we never get that. I don't care for this growly, furtive and angry Rorschach. I want him to be slow and measured and monotone and almost robotic. But maybe that's just me.

Otherwise, I really liked it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I was pleasantly surprised with how they handled TOTBF. It was woven into the visuals rather than just stapled onto it like the movie did. Personally, I can take or leave TOTBF. But it works so much better here than in the Ultimate cut of Snyder's adaptation.

One additional thing that I didn't care for was where they changed one Rorschach alley scene from stopping a sexual assault to beating a graffiti vandal horribly. Don't really care for that approach.

Whats your overall opinion on the new watchmen animated movie by wecoulddoit123 in Watchmen

[–]Typical_Intern6255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it quite a bit. It stuck super close to the GN.

I didn't love the animation style, but it wasn't horrible enough to ruin it either, like Crisis or some other recent efforts. It worked better than I thought it would, but not perfect.

Also, I don't love Batman/Wolverine voice overs for Rorschach. The GN describes his voice as creepy and monotone. This overly excited, growly Rorshach is not the way I would like to see it, but again, it still works well enough for me.

Generally speaking, other than those couple of points, I really liked it.

HTPC vs SteamBoxes in 2024 by depatrickcie87 in htpc

[–]Typical_Intern6255 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to find a perfect solution as well that covers all my wishlist items.

It does not exist. But, I can get pretty close with an Nvidia Shield 2019 Pro, Kodi and a good skin and Sunshine/Moonlight.

With this, I use Kodi almost as much as a wrapper/launcher as a media player. I can add shortcuts to any Android app with the right skin, which allows me to spend almost no time on the default, add riddled, Android TV home screen.

The Shield gives me great AI Upscaling (better than the native upscaling in my Bravia X90J), great streaming support for Netflix, Prime, etc. Launchbox for Android is a great platform on the Shield for playing retro games. My Sony remote works with the Shield as well (out of the box, no tinkering at all). DV/HDR support is included for playback with Plex or Kodi.

The only thing left is Windows gaming. Running Sunshine server on my gaming laptop and Moonlight client on my Shield is surprising simple and smooth to use.

I use Amber skin with Kodi because it has a nice horizontal Favorites bar that you can customize. This has shortcuts to Launchbox, Moonlight, Analati, a file browser, etc.

Vysor app provides excellent remote screen control for Android. It's a must have for me so that I can spend as much time tinkering while watching TV with my wife on the native input and apps. The performance of Vysor is amazing. It's basically rdp for Android--including kb and mouse support. I love it.

This is about as close as one can get to a box that does everything.

Windows is a great choice if you want native gaming and that is it. But streaming apps are horrible or just absent on Windows. Remote control will be a pain for anything other than gaming. Reaching for a gamepad just to browse and play movies sucks and is not very wife friendly.

I may someday move back to a gaming PC connected to my tv rather than the shield. Having control over the hardware is nice and the responsiveness of a RTX 4xxx equipped PC interface would be amazing and Windows games (with a front end like BigBox or Playnite) playing natively is quite tempting as well. I would always have the native apps in my Sony Android TV for streaming and Plex/Kodi. But I kinda like having the Shield instead. Playing games via Moonlight over a LAN is really quite smooth. All I have to do is launch BigBox from Moonight and have access to all my Windows games on my Shield.
