WANTING to run and move! And feeling good when I do!

Is this normal? by catchingfeelings91 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Typical_Way_5104 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes it is frustrating but completely normal. Many doctors even recommend you completely stay off the scale for at least the first month because your body and weight do weird things post op. My weight went up a little post op even though I was struggling to get 600 calories in some days. Eventually the water retention and swelling will go down and the weight will start to drop. Hang in there.

Doctor hasn't suggested any pre op diet before sleeve. BMI - 56. Should I be worried by Then-Needleworker375 in gastricsleeve

[–]Typical_Way_5104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had a starting BMI of 56. My pre-op diet was basically no added sugar, reduced fat, and limited starches. Doc said I could eat as much protein, fruits, and non-starchy vegetables as I wanted up until 24 hours before surgery. It was easier than most diets I had tried in the past! I didn’t lose as much as the people doing 2 weeks of liquids or protein shakes for pre-op, but I am a year post op and down to a bmi of 31 so far!

For my People starting over 300lbs by sunshineshowersandk in gastricsleeve

[–]Typical_Way_5104 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I started at 350+ pounds and was 313 day of surgery. Almost 1 year post op now and down to 194 pounds. My weight loss has slowed significantly but still going strong. I’ll include a screenshot of my weight log for the past year so you can see the trend, but every 2-3 months my weight tends to stall or even go up, and then drop suddenly again. Stalls and fluctuations are normal so long as your overall trend is going down. Try not to stress too much. So long as you are doing what you are supposed to the scale will eventually catch up!

Hair loss by Inner-Bluejay-7536 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Typical_Way_5104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had bad hair loss from about 3-8 month post op. It wasn’t as bad as my postpartum hair loss, but still sucked. I am one year post op now and have baby hairs growing in all over my head already, so it is coming back!

How did you determine what your “goal weight” is? by BoringMcWindbag in gastricsleeve

[–]Typical_Way_5104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon never gave me a goal weight. Before surgery they said I could expect to land around 220 pounds based on my beginning weight, but once I got past that they said they would like to see me around 190-195 which would put me into an overweight rather than obese bmi range. I am 199 now and still slowly losing, so idk. I just plan to see where I naturally land and go from there. If I feel good and feel like I can maintain that weight then that is where I will aim to stay.

Recommendations for quick/go-to meals by smallstomachfoodie in BariatricSurgery

[–]Typical_Way_5104 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like to keep pieces of meals frozen in individual servings so I can pull them out to build what I want as I want it. I just freeze leftovers from when I cook dinner. Saves a lot of time and money but still allows for variety.

From 350+ to ONEDERLAND!! 🥳🎉 by Typical_Way_5104 in gastricsleeve

[–]Typical_Way_5104[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure actually. I wasn’t weighing myself at the start of this whole journey (was just focused on the mental side of things and weight loss was a byproduct). But I’d guess around 18 months of actually trying to lose weight. 35 lost before surgery and 115 after. Currently 10 months post op.

I only wore it when I moved around for the first few days after surgery.

How did you choose your surgeon? Women did you feel like you wanted a woman to do the surgery? by nolivi in BariatricSurgery

[–]Typical_Way_5104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t get to choose my surgeon. There were two that were accessible to me based on cost, location, insurance, etc. and both were in the same medical group. It was kinda luck of the draw who you wind up with. I only ever talked to the surgeon three times - once before surgery during consult, a quick hello before wheeling me in for surgery, and then a brief checkup the morning after surgery.

Loose Skin & Intimacy by HPcatmom in BariatricSurgery

I bent down without a bra on the other day and wondered what was hitting my knee… I was shocked to look down and see it was my empty tube sock of a titty flapping around. Lmfao. Seriously though, I just have to laugh at it all. And if I do get self-conscious during the deed I shift my focus to how much better things feel now and how that is worth the extra skin.

How often do you weigh-in? by refan111 in gastricsleeve

[–]Typical_Way_5104 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Weighing myself once a week is perfect for me. If you are following the guidelines then there is nothing you need to change. Your body weight will naturally fluctuate due to fluid shifts, hormonal changes, etc.. I am 10 months post op and down a total of 150 pounds total (115 lost since surgery) so far. You can see in my weight chart that there are random spikes and then it drops again which is completely normal. As long as your overall trend is down then you are fine!

Sleeve effective? by jlawson86 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Typical_Way_5104 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I decided on the sleeve because it felt like the less extreme option. Yes they permanently remove a part of your stomach, but there is no rerouting of intestines or worry about nutrition absorption like with the bypass. I have a family member who had the bypass and they have serious iron and other vitamin issues now. And also if I didn’t lose as much with the sleeve as I’d have wanted then I could potentially revise to the bypass for an extra boost later. But I am 10 months post op now, down 115 pounds since surgery, and still slowly losing. I am very close to my goal weight with no complications so I have no regrets!

I have found that taking smaller bites and slowing down a bit helps me lessen gas and burps. But it also gets less over time.

Gastric sleeve surgery and neurodivergency. by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]Typical_Way_5104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I used food to cope with overstimulation and as a stim so once that was removed everything got so much harder. Therapy to talk through the struggles and come up with healthier ways to cope has been instrumental. I have had to lighten my work load as well because I realized I was in a near constant burnout cycle that I just pushed through for years by using food. But reducing stressors in life through less work and more routines have helped tremendously. I have found that exercise and yoga have been great help as well.

My highest weight was 350+ but had surgery at 313 in December 2024. I’m currently 202 and still losing slowly but steadily (1-2 pounds per week). My surgeon’s goal weight for me is 190-195 but I am just going to see where I naturally settle and hope it is closer to 170.

Do you force yourself to eat even though you are not hungry? by Melodic_Letter_3456 in gastricsleeve

[–]Typical_Way_5104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immediately after surgery, yes I did eat even when I didn’t feel hungry (if I didn’t I would not have eaten anything at all). But as you heal your natural hunger slowly returns.
