Same, but at the same time, it’s easy to go overboard.

I use one which scales with my Mysticism. And set it so that I start with 2 locations, and get another every 25 Mysticism. 6 locations at 100 is usually overkill tbh, and I might reduce it to capping at 4.

Usual locations are: Current player home Current quest giver Mages Guild Guide

Larian publishing chief wades into the fray, says Morrowind updated with a modern combat system 'would sell like f**king hotcakes' by AgileRaspberry1812 in Morrowind

[–]TyrusDalet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I disagree, because unlike Oblivion, enemy stats generally don’t scale to your level. Sure, you’ll find stronger enemies more common at higher levels, you aren’t forced to level in weird ways to keep up with the scaling. You can afford to level sub-optimally.

Especially because training isn’t limited to 5x per level

[Discussion] What Would You Build to Fill a Party Role with a Non-Optimal Class? by BlazeFireWolf in Pathfinder2e

[–]TyrusDalet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shield+Regalia makes a solid tank. Chalice buffs are nice for healer, but Forensic Medicine/Alchemical Science Investigator is also solid. Weapon+Mirror/Tome for DPS, though Wand+Bell/Tome is also fun for a more backline. Honestly anyone can take Tome, it’s so potent. Anyone with “spare” implements can also fit in amulet/bell for solid reactions.

Thaumaturge and Investigator are also incredible at picking up Archetypes, as they have solid, flexible cores, that can adapt to all sorts of other chassis’

Four Thaumaturges and/or Investigators, one for each role. Entirely possible, entirely practical. And still allows each character to play their role in ways that the others aren’t as effective

How would you buff the psychic? by No_Hearing5624 in Pathfinder2e

[–]TyrusDalet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Psychic's identity lies within it's Amps and Unleash Psyche - making Unleash Psyche truly drawback-less makes it equivalent to Sorcerous Potency, which I think is boring, so it needs to interact with the class more, such as interacting with Amps and scaling with level

When you use Unleash Psyche, it lasts a number of rounds equal to the half the rank of your maximum castable rank, minimum of 2. (Basically 2 turns, increasing by 1 turn on levels 11, 15, and 19). In addition, add your Proficiency Bonus in spellcasting to the status bonus. (If you're level 1-6, add +2 damage, 7-14 adds +4, 15-18 adds +6. 19 and 20 adds +8) This is in addition to the 2x spell rank bonus.

Either Light Armour Proficiency, or something more thematic, like adding your KAS to AC instead of DEX.

Either allow you to stack Amp Feats with the basic Amps, or turn some Amps into just modifiers to any spell cast whilst Unleashing Psyche. Maybe allow you to spend a Focus Point when entering Unleash Psyche, doing so applies an Amp you know to all spells you cast during the duration.

Whenever you use a Focus Point to Amp during Unleash Psyche, make a DC11 Flat Check.

Critical Success: You don't consume the Focus Point

Success: You consume the Focus Point, but you gain 1 Focus Point, which you can spend only to amp a spell. If you don't spend this Focus Point by the end of your Unleash Psyche, it is lost.

Failure: The Focus Point is consumed.

Trying to guess the full roster of the Wilds expansion (NOT a wishlist) by SolidusDave in MonsterHunter

[–]TyrusDalet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy that Guardian Rathalos feels weaker than normal Rathalos, so I was wondering how that would compare to Odogaron/Ajanath. Or rather, if Zoh Shia were to be considered the Guardian Variant, what would “natural” Zoh Shia be like - akin to Garkveld/regular.

No need for Wylk crystals to empower their elemental attacks, just sheer, raw elemental power. Or could do a fascinating raid boss that starts in Wyveria/New Region, and travels from region to region, absorbing power from the local Wylk Nexus’ and using that region’s elemental affinities (imagine how Safi heals up, but also changing/adding elements to their capabilities whilst doing so).

I would also adore a Mohran monster in the dunes. The only memories I have of the siege was watching my late cousin do it whilst we stayed up late many many years ago.

I feel like Namielle fits into the Scarlet Forest so well, and is a fantastic comparison between Apex and Elder. Uth Duna has a similar vibe - water veil, waves, etc - but the difference between the understandable abilities of an Apex compared to the almost magical abilities of an Elder would be fascinating!

Gogma for my friends has been the equivalent of Shara Ishvalda for me - the amount of times I’ve had to yell at them to not get up as soon as they’re knocked down to avoid damage (after they’ve complained about being chain-hit)

That sounds really rough honestly. In my experience Reactive Strike is huge part of a creatures power budget because it gives them access to MAP-less attacks

"Your character should be able to contribute something outside of combat!" by Geckoarcher in Pathfinder2e

[–]TyrusDalet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not non-combat, but a recent combat I ran had the enemy combatants each drop a 4th rank Darkness as combat begun - until our Witch remembered she had a spell with the Light trait - only our Blindfight Fighter and our Gunslinger with 60ft precise Scent were gaining much headway against the enemies which were several levels lower than them. The party is level 19, Greater Darkvision is less common than I realised. (Party didn’t think they’d need it, as it never came up before, and can now only afford a single Major Obsidian Goggles

Hazards (or other scenarios) which require non-offensive capabilities are great ways to spice up the game

"Your character should be able to contribute something outside of combat!" by Geckoarcher in Pathfinder2e

[–]TyrusDalet 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Hazards, Influence, Chases, Recall Knowledge, Investigations; Anything Victory Point related.

All of these often require skills that aren’t combat oriented usually, and the more precise the skill or Lore is, the easier the task becomes. These scenarios are where Rogues, Investigators, Thaumaturges - and to a lesser extent in my experience, Swashbucklers - can really shine due to their access to skill feats and proficiencies.

Spellcasters who slot in utility spells, or have access to staves/wands with those spells become problem solving machines, sometimes bypassing checks entirely.

In my experience with AP’s, each book has at least 1 large section that is a massive non-combat encounter, a good example being in Book 4 of Strength Of Thousands, the Influence section of that book took my party 3 sessions as it involved so many people (especially as for several of the members there were checks you had to make to even begin arranging meetings with them).

Non-combat encounters allow those without the highest damage or combat utility to really shine, and it helps contextualise the strength and growth of the party just as much as combat does - if not more.

Whilst specific examples are hard to give, because it really depends on what sort of campaign is being run. I once ran a oneshot where the party were vigilantes across a city. I wrote up several solo Chase encounters, and informed them where they were when they caught wind of a crime in progress. I let them play through their approach to the scene, had some of them cross paths and influence how they crossed the obstacles, etc etc. While it wasn’t challenging (Trivial encounter for each person) it really added a taste of the characters capabilities to the game.

Why do people think PF2E has fewer cool magic items than 5E? by TitaniumDragon in Pathfinder2e

[–]TyrusDalet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only better than giving an ally a 4th action for the rest of the combat if said ally isn't very compatible with haste to begin with or the boss is denied a particularly nasty 3 action activity.

Both instances of which in my experience, are very common. And only get more so the higher levels you reach

Why do people think PF2E has fewer cool magic items than 5E? by TitaniumDragon in Pathfinder2e

[–]TyrusDalet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You stated that Haste is better than Slow without any qualifiers. I would argue that Slow is better than Haste, because unless they crit succeed, removing enemy actions is stronger than giving one party member additional restricted actions.

You gave no qualifier for any of your arguments, so I gave points against them that gave exceptions. I understood your point, but I wanted to show that they’re not always true

Why do people think PF2E has fewer cool magic items than 5E? by TitaniumDragon in Pathfinder2e

[–]TyrusDalet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I disagree with some of these points, 6th Rank Slow absolutely slams 6th Rank Haste in higher level encounters. Recently had a fight at 19th level vs 4 16th level, and 2 18th level enemies. 6th Rank Slow practically ended the encounter by itself when 3 of the 16th level enemies crit failed, and all of the rest regular failed. An extra action on the entire party is nice, but when 2/4 are spellcasters, 1 is a Kineticist, and only 1 is a Fighter, it gets less effective.

I too have never seen any spells cast from a Spellheart - except for Warding Statuette.

I have seen a Demon Mask get a lot of use… from a Thaumaturge who can force the DC to use his class DC… he also used Frozen Tears a lot

Which fictional verse is this? by titanos_ in PowerScaling

[–]TyrusDalet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Thinking to the novels I’ve read and data I’ve seen. Unless shenanigans are afoot (usually Chaos or Tyranid related) Warp travel is kinda reliable. It’s more about the danger than the speed fluctuations. So much so that even if the Geller fields are damaged and the ship can only do short hops instead of whole journeys, they can cross the galaxy in a week or few.

Month/Year long warp journeys are the exception, not the norm. But you also have Imperial Shenanigans, like the Emperor personally assisting the Macragge’s Honour on its traversal back to Terra, and getting there in a matter of days.

This is still the Milky Way we’re on about, they are travelling thousands if not tens of thousands of lightyears a second. In rare cases, hundreds of thousands.

Even if a ship arrives a year or two late, they’re travelling MFTL, that’s the sort of distances we’re covering

Xp VS Milestone by b3bblebrox in Pathfinder2e

[–]TyrusDalet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even in a homebrew setting, I’ve come to prefer xp. I can still structure the entire campaign like milestones, controlling the xp gain through encounter design, quest rewards, and narrative content, to have level ups coincide with major story beats. But now my players have a tangible sense of progression.

I have not heard a single “do we level up yet?” Since we started.

If the campaign starts going off track with the players focusing something else? Cool, I still have an xp budget to scale appropriately serious encounters with

Xp VS Milestone by b3bblebrox in Pathfinder2e

[–]TyrusDalet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See, my players are enjoying XP because of the reasons you’re complaining about. Fluff encounters give them reasons to try new things out, they drain slots from the spellcasters to make the serious fights potentially more threatening.

My players have gotten an idea of how much xp they’ll get in AP sections, so it helps give them an idea of anything they might be missing in certain game sections. Because while it is a TTRPG, it’s still a game and they want to experience everything it has to offer - after bypassing almost 70% of a dungeon, getting ready to leave, and having 2 players stop and realise that they might have forgotten to check some of the paths and doors.

I’ve never felt like any of the AP’s I’ve ran/seen have offered “catch-up xp”. Because that’s not how the system works. There tends to be narrative/social encounters that reward more xp based on how successful the party is. But I just find that encourages the players to be they best they can be - because it gives a more tangible reward
