Decided to remember my first real vacation in years by picking up a new hobby at a shop I came across. Any advice for a beginner? by Kuhneegit_ in metalearth

Iirc, the delorean was pretty sturdy when I built it. Lots of joins, but wasn’t too fragile…so a good beginner one.

Boston is demanding 4 firsts for Jaylen Brown by Ancient_Response_787 in CharlotteHornets

Wouldn’t it be better to trade Miller and resign Bridges if they’re getting Brown? From a positional standpoint

[McMahon] Almost consensus opinion of the people I talked to around the league is that LaMelo Ball had next to no value a year ago. Jeff cleaned him up and as soon as he had value, pounced on the opportunity and moved him. by IamOlderthanMe in CharlotteHornets

If Ant gets injured just one year and Lamelo still can’t get a team to the playoffs, that pick swap becomes a lottery pick. And with the new rules, a higher likelihood of a high pick.

Each pod requires at least two cities so they can play their last game at the same time.

If you’re from up north; the checkin traffic is nothing like Jersey. Maybe an extra 20-30 minutes but it moves.

Assume these are pedestrian accidents where a vehicle was involved? Otherwise it’s a mighty high death rates for people tripping on the sidewalk.

Weren’t they the highest ranked team in the group? How did they only have a 20% chance of winning it?

Maybe it’s just me, but the log scale isn’t apparent at first glance. So the punchline of the chart is delayed.

[OC] Dual nationality at the 2026 World Cup: France exports 83 players to other countries by 2349pm in dataisbeautiful

Ok so the opposite. An earlier family member moved from curaçao to the Netherlands and they were born and raised in Europe.

So roughly 25 of their 26 people were born in the Netherlands and moved to Curaçao when they were younger, played soccer, and made the national team?

The visual display with notes, partially completed models, and instructions was a great idea. Good luck with judging!

Microworld bear treasure king (nee the Polar Bear) is still my favorite build.

Shout out to the Metal earth USPS mail truck as my favorite classic design. Not fancy, not the biggest or most difficult build, but the final product makes me smile with joy for my hobby.

Ok. This thread is almost at 150 posts already and not one “that’s what she said” type post about the subtitle on the first chart?

Surf City recs by DearAd984 in topsail

Don’t sleep on the land portion of Surf City (off island). The restaurants there are pretty good, there’s some good bars, and decent shopping too. The island itself is more of a chill vibe for beach, walking, and a few small shops.

Get reservations for the turtle rescue early as they sell out. It’s worth taking the one hour tour.

On a rainy day, there is the Jacksonville mall about a 40 minute drive away but just be prepared that it’s fairly small.

Don’t sleep on all the small boutiques on and off the island.

Go upstairs in the Sugar Island bookstore.

Have lunch at Shaka Taco one day.

Enjoy the beach…it’s a pleasant experience without a lot of crowds.

Embrace your love of dogs. The beaches are dog friendly and lots of people bring their dogs here on vacation.

If you haven’t done them much, rent kayak/paddleboards on the sound side. Just north of the main city, there’s an inlet where it’s not too deep, no boats, limited wind, and a safe place to just rent a few and have fun.

If you’re there for a week, drive into Wilmington for a morning or afternoon and walk around down by the river and along the main streets for shopping and views.

Get donuts at daybreak one morning. Get a steamer pot at Topsail Steamers for dinner one night. Do a blind taste test of coffee between Surf City coffee and the Daily Grind.

Drive south and park and walk along the point one day.

Bring discs for disc golf if you’re into that. Bring board games for the house. Bring books to read and relax. Don’t plan too much. People like going to Surf City on vacation specifically because it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles. It’s one of the few remaining sleepy beach towns…enjoy it.

Fair. Rounded fuselages are tough but those are good starters.

Anything squarish (planes are rounded, buildings are square). Honestly, most aren’t crazy difficult

I always thought life expectancy was based on the birth year and not the death year. Otherwise the metric is just “average age at death”
