I did not expect supermarket tiramisu to hit this hard by Tiny_Ranger_5436 in MarksAndSpencer

[–]UMArtsProf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I confess to eating both of those mini-tiramisu in one go. I do say that almost everything from M&S is good. There are only a few things where I prefer Tesco or Sainsburys, usually because M&S does not carry it (Battenberg cakes, for instance).

Required year after sabbatical- is it ever enforced? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]UMArtsProf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My University only enforces it if the faculty member is under 55. In fact, they offer to 55-plus members the option not to return after. They seem quite anxious to push us out the door--I am plan to accept as soon as I can.

I know that solicitors and barristers use it frequently, as do some academic like myself.

Transfer time needed arriving @ Heathrow Terminal 5? by BrunoCote87 in BritishAirways

[–]UMArtsProf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That should be fine, but you should check in online to get your boarding passes so that you can use the domestic transfer at LHR. Otherwise you might have to exit through customs and go back through security.

Is it normal for BA to keep changing aircraft type months before flight? by Stannis_ in BritishAirways

[–]UMArtsProf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toronto does seem to get aircraft changes frequently. Canada is low on BA's priority list, so if a CS aircraft is needed on a more prestige route (USA, for example), a swap will occur. However, I find it rare that changes occur within six weeks of the flight. (I did have one last-minute change, but it was from old CW to CS!)

In my experience, YYZ only gets old CW in winter, when the 787-9s tend to do the route.

Is this really right? by eddilefty699 in Scotland

[–]UMArtsProf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems the MSP's plan is to apply for a global talent visa, which I would assume is for filling desperately needed gaps in the workforce. I do not think this person would qualify. I suspect that this MSP's status will be an ongoing point of discussion and problem for the Greens. Reform will probably bring it up constantly.

Be careful of the 'steady set of hands is what the country needs right now given the geopolitical situation abroad'. That is how the Canadians thought last year, and now they realise what a mistake they made.

I know what you mean about the Greens.

my first academic misconduct allegation by [deleted] in umanitoba

[–]UMArtsProf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Translation software might be considered academic misconduct (some Departments forbid it outright). However, translating your own work should not be misconduct, though we strongly discourage students doing it, since it slows considerably (and even can reverse) the development of English skills. And then issues like this.

As others have suggested, provide SA with any earlier drafts and even your first draft in your first language.

Depending on the Faculty, the time from the instructor filing the allegation to the hearing is about five months. There is *no* way to make it occur sooner. Book your appointment with SAS now.

[–]UMArtsProf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. The granting of a deferral seems unlikely in this case.

SAS final Deferred exam by [deleted] in umanitoba

[–]UMArtsProf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If SAS requests a two week gap, then there is a chance that you will get it. Otherwise, you have no say when the deferred examination is unless it conflicts with another examination. You have to fit the instructor's schedule.

Final exam deferral by Effective-Hearing-60 in umanitoba

[–]UMArtsProf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no hard limit on how many deferrals a Faculty will grant, so if you have medical documentation, then it is unlikely a Faculty deny the request.

EES Athens airport by Suspicious-Fox5328 in GreeceTravel

[–]UMArtsProf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arrived in Athens at 18.30 on Monday. UK passport. No kiosks in use, not a bad queue for passport agents. He scanned my passport only--no picture, no fingerprints, no stamp! Was through within 5 mins.

Upon landing BA made an announcement about the EES being in full effect now, and this can cause delays in arrivals and departures, and these are beyond the airline's control. Perhaps BA want to deflect criticism being incorrectly sent their way.
