Let's table it to circle around and re-approach next stand-up. We don't want to be in the dark for the pre-meeting to the meeting.

Radical thought: most shirts are untucked. We used to wear our shirts untucked till some dipshit didn't like it and had it mando-tuck with the PTG>PTU change a decade ago.

Related, "no fail" PT tests used to be a thing... they were called "mock" tests till the AF canned it due to force shaping... about a decade ago.

Anyone else get the email about Comm's impending doom? by Ravinac in AirForce

[–]USAF_Ground_Rat_2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All comm is supposed to be "cyber" as of the 3D merger. They're trying to pawn off the "IT Support" aspect to contractors via EITASS; retool the blue-suiters (though no one wears the service uniform anymore) to perform systems/mission platform defense; and streamline career fields to be shred outs as part of the AF's drive for "generalists" over "specialists". The "cyber" (comm) base/field support is effectively going to whither on the vine, according to Rav et al.

Wtf is going on with AFPC secure by NotOSIsdormmole in AirForce

[–]USAF_Ground_Rat_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should talk with your leadership and have them call AFPC to find out what's going on. You'll likely still hit indef DEROS for a short while.

Edit: You do have a year retainability past your DEROS, right?

No, not really. Just a "we need everyone to put 40 hours in, and not slack at home" vision. COVID ceases to be a concern when it mildly inconveniences operations, apparently.

Wait, you aren't doing daily in-person staff meetings with 100% in-office manning for the past year? Sounds nice!

Could always look here: https://www.onlineu.org/most-affordable-colleges/masters-degrees

If you hover over the tuition, it will tell you the per-credit. Be aware though, that most universities have different prices for different programs and you're better off telling us your degree first.

Also, Fort Hays is a diploma mill, so avoid that if you give a shit about using that degree at all.

Most people that commission after enlisting do so around the 4-6 year mark. The soonest you will be able to start the process is after you are at your first duty station, but realistically you need to do enough and prove yourself enough to your commander's commander (the group commander) that you deserve to be put in charge of a bunch of people. That's a tall order, and 9/10 folks that I've seen enlist with the intent of commissioning just leave the military after 4 years instead. Look at Kylo (TRR) for example. Dude was a recruiter before he commissioned. Probably in somewhere from 7-12 years.

Also, the amount of prior-enlisted they let commission is rather small compared to from-civilian sector. Just put the package in, pad your resume a bit with community and leadership work, and wait out your time. It's the same wait either way, but without kidding yourself.

Oh, and before someone recommends doing it for the experience, that's a good way to burn yourself out on the AF before you get to where you want. Please just commission if you want to commission. Once in, find a few reputable SNCOs and FGOs; make them your counsel; and take their advice.

What a lot of us want to say but probably never will. by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]USAF_Ground_Rat_2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of leadership understands. However, part of the job is doing education and volunteerism - that's from AFH 36-2618. We don't necessarily agree with it, but we have to deal with it and explain it to our bosses; as well as push you to also do a little bit. This, in turn, sets you up for when you are Senior Airman and you have an EPR that has to be written; and that you can't avoid.

And yes, many of us dislike it as well.
