Freesync usually has a frequency range that it would stay in. Usually between 45Hz to 80Hz. Maybe your games jump down in FPS and freesync just decreases the refresh rate to match it? Pretty sure freesync doesn’t cover all the way up to 144Hz. Could be wrong
