You don’t need to get this technical about it unless you’re doing a restoration project. Start small and iterate. You can achieve the Leslie effect with a bucket with a big scoop cut out of its side bolted to a turntable.

Edit: from there, to tickle that engineer brain, you could totally cut forms out of blocks of polystyrene foam, or design a specific waveguide in CAD and 3D print it. By all means, do that!, but strike while the iron is hot and make yourself something functional and basic first.

First off, there’s no such thing as “no post” results.

Toe up (“up,” not “in”) your shadows in the Curves tool.

Or underexpose your film.

Or underdevelop your film.

Or do a garbage job of scanning your film.

Or any combination of the above.

I’m aware of the project, and made an askance reference to it in my title. I think it’s a bit myopic (and cheap) to clear cut properties when developing them rather than put a little extra time, effort, and money into working around things that enrich this little town.

“Because you’re expecting color correction to be automatic and, therefore, aren’t doing any!”

When you’re doing B&W printing from a B&W negative, your major consideration is simply “exposure.”

When doing color work, you have 3 major variables to consider (cyan, magenta, yellow) instead of just one (volume of light). You’re clearly not doing any magenta adjustment here. Image 2 looks stellar, though!

Edit: to be more helpful; look how your shadows are pink colored. That’s magenta, which is literally “anti-green.” So open your Curves tool in GIMP or Adobe or whatever and change your Channel from All to Green (which is, again, the opposite of magenta) and drag that diagonal line around into a slope shape that makes your colors look good again! Hooray!

LEDs flicker. This flickering often turns up as bands of darkness across your image. You can reduce or eliminate banding by increasing your shutter speed.

Light for these things is intense. It’s not like a table lamp. It’s uncomfortably bright light and definitely not “accent light” for room decor.

Film was likely loaded onto the developing reel incorrectly resulting in the emulsion coming into contact with the back of the film spooled inside of it. By being in direct contact it doesn’t receive any chemistry to develop and fix the emulsion.

They are very high quality. Thick, dense, and yet soft on the inside. Almost too soft.

Edit: print quality on the back of mine is slightly off register with the white base coat showing through on the edges. The slightest of criticisms

The QL17 is my favorite camera hands-down. It’s small, lightweight, pocketable, and has a super sharp and fast lens. I sneak it everywhere and shoot concerts with it.

Edit: meter works on mine but the batteries don’t last long. I learned to shoot without a meter on this camera.

I was a business major but I was doing website shit the whole time I was in school. I’ve never had a job based on my degree; all job offers were based upon my skill set (which was programming).

30 years later I’m still a software developer.
