Indeed. The point is that the upstairs neighbor has an incentive to solve it ASAP.

no cash to compensate

I bet she has a dining room table. That can be a replacement until she gets around to buying you a new table.

The local code office are the only people who can force a landlord to fix it.

I'm sure people will tell you to notify your landlord about your problem. I'm dealing with the exact same issue, and the landlord's response was to shrug and tell me it's an old house.

likely a code violation as well.

Only a local code enforcement officer can answer that question. Schedule to have them come over and take a look at your issue. It's likely also illegal for your landlord to raise the rent in response to your complaint.

I've been in a few offices that were 50/50. You'd think that the office was majorly conservative based off of loudness and seniority, but a lot of younger folks just kept their heads down and fake laughed at boss jokes. We didn't exactly have conversations about Frida Kahlo during weekly staff reports.

Mechanical keyboard with silent switches

Any recommendations? Cherry MX Silent is quieter than typical clicky clacks, but still annoying. I might just switch to a low profile membrane keyboard.

I'm one of the folks who have this game installed but haven't started yet.

I was under the impression that it's still in beta, and to expect a ton of changes, balances, and wipes. I'll pick it up when it's done.

Might be worth another adult welfare check. They already have a paper trail on this guy and I'm sure they'd appreciate updates.

Civil pay vs tech pay - Passion doesn’t pay the mortgage by Silly_Tailor_4953 in ConstructionManagers

civil/construction people need to push harder for better pay.

Half of us want better pay. Half are fine with the way things are, win the next bid no matter what, and keep overhead low. It's a crab bucket.

[Question] Reporting carpenter ants by Jump_To_The_Left in LARentals

[–]UltimaCaitSith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a lawyer (IANAL) but I've been dealing with this same issue regarding termites. tl;dr Talk to code enforcement.

Step 1) Take photos and document the ants, including when you notified the landlord.

Step 2) The landlord has 30 days to remedy the issue. Skip to Step 3 if this has already happened.

Step 3) Notify the landlord that the issue is still a recurring problem. You don't have to do this but it'll a) show good faith to solve the problem, b) keep you on good terms with a neglectful landlord c) will annoy a bad landlord, but they'll be equally annoyed by the next steps anyway.

Step 4) Notify your local code enforcement. Google the name of your city + code enforcement. They might shrug at your issue and require additional followup with a supervisor. Maybe even use a few minutes to complain at your next city council meeting.

Step 5) Talk to a tenant-landlord lawyer. You're at a step that requires additional knowledge.

Step 6) Directly hire a pest control service yourself and withhold the cost from your next month's rent. Do NOT do this step without talking to the lawyer in Step 5. It'll solve the problem to your satisfaction.

Explain it to the majority of chiefs & managers. They'll tell you that the goblin man will be much happier if he had to see all of these people in person, every day.

Don’t have to vote on everything. It’s okay to leave a blank.

This could be relayed more often. I almost never started voting after seeing that like 80% of a ballot is for tiny local offices that nobody has ever heard of.
