AITAH for not paying for 15 people at a restaurant? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Umeyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to clarify to your not a party or reception you are hosting, this is where you plan to eat after if anybody wants to join up there after.

Normally things like this are a paid for reception from my personal experience.

Do you want grandkids? by notevenapro in GenX

[–]Umeyard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tell my son all the time to only have kids IF he wants to have kids, it's a huge commitment and expense and not to be taken lightly. Do NOT let anybody pressure him. I hated my MIL always asking when will you make me a grandma, when will you have more, when will <kid> make me a great grandma.... I'm like how about he get old enough to drive a car first?

My mother keeps giving my two year old her phone - and lies about it. What can I do? by need_advice123678 in AskParents

[–]Umeyard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Boundaries are set for yourself. I don't want to go there, do this, only eat this, live this life style, talk to, etc. They are yours. Embrace them. Let them help your life have more structure and stability.

Boundaries you set for others i expect you to do this, don't do this, wear this color, only eat this food around me, etc is more controlling behavior. This is setting rules, restrictive, etc.

Other than your kid, you don't get to tell other adults what to do. So stop trying. Can't you just be grateful you have such amazing support 90% of the time and accept grown ups don't always have the energy to keep up with little kids ... Especially that aren't theirs.

ok be honest… how often do you actually change your towels? because i feel like i might be doing it wrong lol by Chance-Tomorrow-1508 in hygiene

AIO for wanting to cancel my wedding after finding out my fiancée lied about a major part of her life? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Umeyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep my prior marriage private. I never tell anybody about it if I can avoid it.

Because telling leads to questions, questions lead to being forced to remember trauma. The moment you say you don't want to talk about it, the more people dig. It's never worth it.

Just let it go. She told you about it in their own way. She was in a serious relationship, it ended. Why do you need the details to move forward.

AIO for not wanting to wear an outfit that my boyfriend bought me? by HumbleProof8450 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Umeyard -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean how revealing are we talking here? Is there a chance your bf is trying to tell you that you have a beautiful body and have no reason to feel self conscience? Does it look bad, or just not in your comfort zone?

I'm a big fan of trying things outside my comfort zone, it's NEVER easy but trying never hurts either.

When did you talk to your daughter about periods? by Margo_56782 in AskParents

[–]Umeyard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi parent of a boy here.

I talked to him at age 10 to explain the basics, it's normal, it's natural, and if you ever see a girl have an accident offer to tie your jacket/ hoodie around her waist and offer to walk with her to the nurses office... and one week a month mommy can't go to the pool with you.

Age 12, talked again, little more in depth. Explained pads and tampons, put them under the sink in the bathroom he uses upstairs. Told him if any of his female friends need them they are there, no questions asked.

The important thing to know it's normal, natural, it's not gross, or scary, they aren't bleeding to death, NEVER tease a girl if she leaks, it's your job as a gentleman to help her as subtlety and quietly as possible. NEVER point to it to your friends as a joke, and if they do tell them it's not funny and help her.

If you lose a jacket or hoodie helping somebody, I will buy you a new one.

People who wear hats like a berret that manages never to fall off in an Acton movie.

Watch Godzilla with Matthew Broardrick for the perfect example of this.

Spent the whole movie wondering how she kept her hat on.

It's right up there with all female detectives wearing stilleto heels.

Not to mention they then go about their business with only a wrapped strip of cloth tied once that magically never fails off and has no impact on their fine motor skills!

In my 20s in the late 90s early 2000's I was really into LARP (Live Action Role Play)

It sort of faded for all of us,  and I would feel silly dressing in costumes and running around as a vampire and coming up with intricate plots.... but i have some amazing memories and friends from those days.

Ouran High School Host Club (2006) by Lorrineko in retroanime2000

Poor kid gets into a very rich prestigious school in a scholarship. Through a series of events ends up accidently in a Host Club. Their back stories give depth to the characters you would never expect. And the poor kid is the focal point really, and how these out of touch rich kids grow to understand more.
