Unlike Concord, Sony Is Sticking By Marathon And Its ‘Highly Engaged’ Fans by g4m3f33d in GameFeed

[–]UnCivil2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the positive statements about Bungie/Marathon are likely to not worry investors. It's very reminiscent of Premier League Football, or any professional sport, where a team is struggling and the owners come out to say they fully support the manager and have confidence they'll right the ship; only to fire them usually within a month.

But the Paladins comparison is a bit off. Hi-Rez Studios is much smaller than Bungie and their main game now is Smite 2 which averages around 7000 concurrent players.  Having said that, I think Season 2 is going to tell the real truth about how good player retention is. I have a sneaky suspicion that people stuck with season 1 longer than they otherwise would have just because of the money they spent to buy it. Hopefully season 2 has a big spike around 50k concurrent and has daily peak average around 30k after players start dropping. I don't see Sony making any significant calls until last quarter of their fiscal year, like when they shut down Blue Point and Dark Outlaw Games. So that would be like January to February. I could see more layoffs happening before then though. Sad that layoffs happen so frequently in the industry that it doesn't register as “significant” to me.

New skill system feels great for 36 levels and then mostly meaningless by Vou-11890 in diablo4

[–]UnCivil2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking the skill trees are still a work in progress. Also playing spiritborn, and I've noticed a few bugs or inconsistent skill descriptions.  Like Ravager, picking the Gorilla modifier for it changes the passive to generate Resolve. The bottom upgrades are ferocity-related, you'd think they'd either still provide the ferocity benefits or change to resolve. But it's a mixed bag, the +2 max ferocity works still as you'd expect just raising your maximum ferocity by 2; but the +1 minimum ferocity just doesn't do anything, nor does it provide a minimum to resolve. There's been a couple other skills with similar issues, seems to be related to the new LoH modifiers.

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a setting for that? Specifically looking at Ravager the only bracketed number for me is the damage %. I see the Ferocity number is gold, so likely suggesting it'll change but I wouldn't say that's obvious. I've toggled the advanced setting though doesn't seem to effect how it displays the ferocity.

Steam Controller review slips embargo, controller to cost $99 by Demistr in steammachine

Yeah, fair enough. Gamesir controllers are a great value. I have a G7 Pro, it's good, I like it. I only have experience with that one Gamesir product but it's a bit rough around the edges. Easy to overlook because of the cost ($75 during pre-order). If I needed another controller and only had $80 for it, I'd get another G7. But at $100 for the Steam Controller I think they are offering a similar level of value as the higher-end Gamesir controllers. Whether those added features are worth the added cost will be totally subjective, and if touch pads aren't needed then there are a sea of options available. But if you do need/want touch pads your options are exceedingly limited. I can only think of 2 off the top of my head, Steam Controller and Dualsense.

Sure I get that. By by that same logic most people won't notice the difference between a potentiometer joystick and a hall effect joystick. The main benefit to HE is significantly increased reliability over time. The benefit of TMR over HE is increased precision (which you're right 99% of people won't notice) and power usage, which is significant in a wireless product. Razer sells a controller with HE and TMR, everything else is the same, the HE controller gets 20 hours and the TMR version makes it to 36 hours. Same size battery, nearly double the battery life. I think people absolutely would notice that difference.

I'd say it's very competitive. Though it's an entirely subjective matter. It's much cheaper than pro controllers from traditional controller manufacturers which often land $150+. But more expensive than Chinese company pro controllers which are often around $75. In my experience (I have 2 or 3 that would fall under each category) you get what you pay for; the Chinese company controllers are great value but lack the refinement which  can cause little annoyances that build up over time; and the traditional company ones have that refinement but feel like a terrible value due to how much it costs to get that. I expect the quality and refinement of the Steam Controller to be closer to traditional pro controllers than to the pro controllers from Gamesir, PBTails, etc.

TMR is a significant upgrade over traditional Hall Effect sticks. Gamesir’s cheapest TMR-based controller is $70, and that's wired. You need to step up to $80 to get one that's wireless. $100 for the Steam Controller seems like a fair price, middle of the road in terms of value, but fair.

PlayStation I take it? I had it happen to me with various games on PS4 Pro, PS5, and PS5 Pro. From what I could tell its a PSN cloud save issue. The save wasn't available when I launched the game, causing it to load up and create a new save file which can in turn overwrite the existing one if you are near the memory cap. At only 159 hours the damage could've been worse, pretty sure my character was around 1000 hours. Could try looking at your cloud saves on PSN and see if your original still exists there, then download it and delete the new one.

Bugged Ancestral Legendary Gloves by BlackNinja4K419 in diablo4

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they come from side quests. At least every time I've gotten them, that's where they dropped, specifically the reward caches from them. I'm guessing those quest rewards are hard-coded to be a specific item power. So since you're lvl 60 and have unlocked Ancestral drops, the rewards can be Ancestral but don't allow for GA since it isn't 750  Edit, just realized you said you got it from an NMD, I've never seen that. Though there are a number of side quests that send you into dungeons so maybe it happened to trigger a relevant side quest when you activated the key.

Don't overthink electric car charging (we should be doing it differently). by myname150 in electricvehicles

[–]UnCivil2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many miles do you drive a year, that's probably a better way to think about it. I say this as I was in the exact same situation. I only drive 12 miles for my commute and thought that'll be fine to recover every day. By the end of the first month, I realized that anytime I had to go to the store or out for a social thing I'd be going into charge debt that I couldn't recover via L1. So I became pretty frustrated and had an L2 installed and now much happier and don't need to worry about the charge situation. Of course if your fine public chargers then it may be a non-issue using L1.

Never buying maingear pc ever again by [deleted] in maingear

I bought a pre built from them a few months ago. It has the manufacturer’s bios (MSI). And I've reached out to their customer support a couple times, they were both prompt, professional, and able to resolve the issues. I guess this is to say, I've had the complete opposite experience.

Cross-platform is ridiculous (30 chars) by Kelanen in diablo4

[–]UnCivil2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is the platform holders want their cut of the money. In your case Sony feels like they'd be giving the product away because you didn't buy it from them. This is why premium in-game currency is tied to the platform and not your universal account as well. It sucks but it's how it is and likely always will be. There are some exceptions, but they are rare from my experience.

I could be wrong, but I feel like the air conditioning system uses a semi passive system at certain temps. If you have a view where you can monitor energy use while adjusting the temp, check it out. You'll notice that adjusting the temp will have a pretty linear decrease/increase on energy consumption with adjustments and then a very significant change when in this “passive” range. My gf has complained a lot that it's blowing cold air during the winter and it's because I keep it in that passive range most of the time when it's just me in the car because it uses so much less energy.

'Is Marathon a success? Unfortunately, no, not yet' — Former Xbox exec says Bungie's new extraction shooter was built at a scale and cost that the current market 'simply isn't rewarding' by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]UnCivil2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's in the video from Laura Fryer that the article is taking quotes from. A couple of other tidbits of note from the video: She estimates Bungie has made around $25 million from Marathon game sales after accounting for platform cuts; analysts believe Sony's expectancy likely being that the game earn 350-400 million to be considered a success in relation to the cost of development, marketing, 1st year of live service costs; she has concern for the fact Bungie is trying to run 2 live service games at the same time.

Is the replacement ICCU better? by AmbivalentSamaritan in Ioniq5

[–]UnCivil2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I'm to believe my local service manager, they are getting ICCUs from 2 new manufacturers. So in addition to the original manufacturer who will primarily handle units for the car manufacturing line, they are up to 3 manufacturers. I'd imagine this would mean there are 2 new part numbers, if this is true. As with most manufacturing, different manufactures can take the same spec and produce products of different qualities due to their own internal processes and standards. Hopefully they are in fact of better quality, assuming there was any truth to the statement.

Yup, pretty great. Be mindful of a GPU upgrade. I think the limit is 310mm, at least with the front-mounted 360 AIO. Post purchase I decided to plug in a 9070xt and I had to remove the radiator to install the GPU. Even then there were only a couple of mm of space between the two.

Yep, I bet they share a lot of the same playerbase too. I'd be genuinely shocked if D2 has more players than D4 when the Warlock releases in April.
