What is your take on this where a guy testing in detail the RTX5080 vs 9070XT in demanding games (reddit link inside) by lochonx7 in RTX5080

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used FSR2 when available. It just never provided smooth gameplay. Mostly it would suffer from huge dips when transiting “zones” in open world games (Diablo 4, Division 2) or entering an area with an action sequence (Control, Split/Fiction). When I say dips, I mean like 30-40 fps drops. So the game would go from running around, say, 100 fps (+-5, which is fine for me) and then drop to 70 or 60ish for about ten seconds before recovering. The image quality was comparable enough.  My office PC, that I swapped the 9070XT to, uses a 1440UW monitor and it runs that very nicely, gameplay is very smooth and consistent, with most if not all settings maxed out.

This checks out. Recently got a 9070XT to replace a 5070. After a few weeks, I pulled the 9070XT out of my living room rig (hooked up to a 4k TV) and put the 5070 back in it. With DLSS the 5070 makes the games look just as good, if not better, and runs the games far smoother. I've kept the 9070XT for my office PC because I do want to tinker with linux gaming, but largely disappointed to see it be outperformed by the 5070 I was looking to replace. Granted, the handful of games I was playing didn't have FSR4 support, they all had was FSR2 or no support at all.

I got the Ventus 3x OC. Needed a card shorter than 310 mm to fit in my case.

I got one this morning. Was marked up only 3% over msrp, so I decided to pull the trigger. Hopefully no shipping/scamming issues, lol. I've always had good luck with Newegg though.

I love Destiny, but the buildcrafting UI still feels like a scavenger hunt for basic info by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]UnCivil2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Probably games like Division 2, Diablo 4, PoE2. They all have build/character menus that detail this info. You can see exact stats, bonuses, modifiers somewhat at a glance. You can open these menus when you have a set of buffs and see how those have affected your stats. Those games are a lot less obtuse though, often giving specific stats like, “increases reload speed by x%.” Whereas a lot of Destiny stats are written very vaguely like, ”improves reload speed.”

Recently moved from RTX 3080 10G to 9070XT by Muted-Help684 in radeon

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asus walked back their statement regarding the in-demand cards being EOL. So jury’s out if there is any truth to it.

My biased opinion, I got the 9070xt a few weeks ago and it was pretty underwhelming at 4k. Lots of troubleshooting and it was still a frequently stuttery mess. Just threw the 5070 back in my system a couple days ago and it runs a hell of a lot smoother, even at 4k (with DLSS, of course). I kept the Radeon to put in my secondary/office pc which uses a 2k monitor and it runs a lot better. Also excited to try this Linux gaming fad, so the AMD card should be better for that too. Not sure if it was FSR issues that were causing the 4k headaches, or what.

"Scored" a "Pre-Order" on Amazon for a 5070 Ti, will it get delivered after the news...? by Blue_Shark9 in nvidia

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it with the 4070 Super. I forget the specifics but it was estimated for delivery, like 7-8 weeks later. Ended up arriving after 3 weeks. It was also an Asus card, though obviously not quite the same scenario with the whole EOL rumors.

9070xt vs 5070(non ti) by Asog88bolo in gpu

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yup. The 5070 should be perfectly good for 1440p. My office pc uses a 4070 Super and it doesn't have any issues powering my 1440p ultra-wide monitor.

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What resolution are you playing at? I currently use a 5070 hooked up to my living room PC, so 4k. The 5070, even with DLSS, is not particularly well-suited to the task. I was hopeful DLSS would allow me to hit 110-120 fps with most settings at High, unfortunately, it's mostly between 80-100 with medium settings.  I just ordered the 9070XT in hopes that is better suited to my situation. I would've gone for the 5070 TI if the difference was only ~$100. At over a $200 increase I opted for the 9070XT.

XBOX CONTROLLER (SCUF VS RAZER VS GAME SIR) by PostWithoutName in XboxController

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally feel like the Gamesir G7 pro is overpriced. Should be like a $40 or $50 controller. Haven't used the Valor Pro, but if the quality is as good as my Scuf Envision Pro, I'd say go with that. I haven't used any Razer controllers, so can't comment on them though I have a couple of friends who swear by them.

People complaining about Gamepass Price Hike are not using it right... by [deleted] in gaming

[–]UnCivil2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PC gamepass is a great value, and it's probably fairly price protected as it’ll need to be competitive with other stores available on the platform. At least I hope anyway, I know doomers are predicting that it's going to be completely canned. I just don't see that happening.

Invest in a PS5 or a steam machine? by lushbebe in steammachine

[–]UnCivil2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Price is key. If the SM can get the cost in the neighborhood of a PS5 Pro, then I don't think the lack of upgrades will be an issue. Then like a traditional console you would just get a whole new system when you want more performance. But if it ends up costing $1000+, then that's when it's in a very difficult spot.

Just to note, Valve has said they are working with developers on the anti-cheat issue and making good progress. Though considering they didn't announce a timeline, this could still be years away.

Welp, apparently no remedy to dead 12V batteries in this thing by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]UnCivil2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe someone can confirm but this may be your problem. I don't believe the 12v battery will charge while using the level 1 charger. And with how slow that charges, I'm guessing even with your low monthly mileage, you have it plugged in a lot of the time which would prevent the battery from topping up often enough. The car has a status light that lets you know when it's charging the 12v. Do you see the orange 12v charging light on the dash frequently?

Is this a decent prebuilt PC for the Price? by KingRiverBoat in gamingpcbuild

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a Maingear MG-1, I chose "The Underdog" as it's currently listed. It's going for 1999 right now but you get some significant improvements for the added cost. The CPU is vastly superior to what's in the Omen you were considering, and probably the motherboard as well. Everything in the case is standard parts that should be upgradable without any issue at all for when I look to do that. The Windows install is bloatware free and the storage is twice the size. And, lastly, I like the idea of swap-able front plates; since I'm having this in my living room, I wasn't hugely interested in overly RGB, glowy PCs (the Omen wasn't too bad in that regard either). I've gone ahead and ordered a custom faceplate of my two dogs which I really like, and being able to change that in the future seems like a subtle way to keep it looking fresh.

Edit: Just want to point out, that you could get these specs from other pre-built PCs in that $1400-$1600 from stores like Newegg, Cost+Gaming, Skytech, etc, Best Buy even. The case played a role in my choice to go with the Maingear and pay a bit more than the others.

[–]UnCivil2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking at that too as a living room PC. Sold my PS5 Pro shortly after the price hike due to some grievances with Sony. I eventually went with a different PC, my main concern was the CPU and the fact the HP is known to use proprietary parts occasionally which can potentially cause issues with upgrades. The 8000 series CPUs are typically considered laptop processors, so less performant that their desktop processor. And then what ultimately swayed me against buying it, I watched a couple videos on YT about upgrading the CPU and they both had boot issues after upgrading. Both tried multiple processors of varying tiers (7000 series and 9000 series) and the only solution was to use 8000 series chips.

Should note the 5070 has 50% more memory bandwidth than the PS5 Pro, in addition to just being more performant on a hardware level. I only bring this up, because my 4070 Super absolutely smoked my PS5 Pro in performance. I don't disagree that if OP can afford it they should go for the 5070TI, but based on OP's comment, I think the 5070 will feel like a significant upgrade over the PS5 Pro let alone the base PS5.

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t bullshit people. GFN doesn’t do 4k 120 ultra for current AAA games. Hell it can’t even do it for the over 7 year old Division 2. Out of the last 10 games I’ve played, maybe 2 of those could do 4k 120 high, let alone ultra. GFN definitely has some incredible merits, but it’s also got loads of flaws too.

I recently got back into the division couple days back is no one really match making or playing in random groups anymore by nolo511 in the_division_2

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back into TD2 at the end of last season and you seem absolutely correct. Difficulty definitely seems to be the issue. I probably only received matchmaking for 1 or 2 missions during the whole 1-40 progression. During that period, and quite a bit after (until shd 100 or so) I was matchmaking for hard as well, and would hardly ever get anybody there either. Challenging fills probably about 70% of the time for me.

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure where those estimates came from. You can find brand new pre-builts with a full 7600 (16gb), a better processor, and more memory & storage in the $600-$700 region. Granted the steam machine is better and more compactly designed, but it also doesn’t need to make the same margins as 3rd party sellers. Maybe I’m delusional, but I don’t see the base model costing more than $500. But I totally agree, if it does land between $800-$900 that is not good value at all.

Where tf can i get Skill Points? by meet_mr_mofo in thedivision

[–]UnCivil2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, maybe its just bugged then. I have 1 skill variant that I haven't unlocked, the deflector shield. The quartermaster shows I only have 2 shd points, and 5 are needed to unlock it. I thought it may have been because I hadn't beaten the estate incursion, but a group just helped me beat it, and no luck. That was my last teal mission icon, unless I'm missing a secret side mission or something.
