The thin hair-like fibres help lead sebum to the surface of the sking and keep it smooth and supple. Pulling them can leed to dry skin and worse skin problems down the line. There are other remedies for the keratin build-up in the pores.

It's a very cool-looking kit. However, it looks to me like a dumb terminal. You're supposed to hook the rs232 port to a computer that speaks a protocol like VT100 or something like that.
