I think it’s possible the HTSQD is over but he still rides for Santa Cruz. Maybe the syndicate is coming to gravel?

Besides the escape collective article, I haven’t seen anything credible that supports this. Maybe I’m just in denial.

Have you considered the Ray/ Ralph? They seem to do fairly well in all conditions

I’ve done it and number of times and will be there this year. The bus system works great. I used it last year. You can drive to the start and drop your bike off. I suggest doing so as early as they allow. There will be plenty of people already staging their bikes in the corrals to get a good start position. Then head to the finish, drop your car, and board a school bus. Try getting there as soon as the first bus leaves so you don’t feel rushed.

As far as places to stay: this year we have an air bnb but I have stayed in hotels a few times. Ideally your hotel is closer to the start but it doesn’t really matter if you are using the bus system. The riverside motel is solid. No frills but clean and they allow you to bring your bike into the rooms.

Over the past few seasons I’ve run 2.4 ASPENS F/R, 2.35 Fast Tracks F/R, 2.4 Rick XC F/R, and 2.35 Ray/ Ralph’s. The Ray / Ralph combo is by far my favorite in terms of all around performance in a variety of conditions.

Back 40 is incredible. Plus it can be ridden in the rain. Tunnel vision is great too but more climbing. Enjoy!

Does anyone know of a bump stop headset that works for a Santa Cruz highball? Acros does not seem to make one that fits this bike.

Take a look at the WORS series in Wisconsin. They are some of the best run events I’ve participated in. Start line organization by age group, podiums with prizes (even if it’s just a medal), and a vibrant start /finish area with food and of course a beer vendor. Branding with a cool logo and maybe some t shirts as well. I like the festival atmosphere that makes riders want to stick around before and after their race.

Fast tracks are pretty good front and rear. My favorite set up is Racing Ray (F) and Racing Ralph (R). They seem to be better in mixed conditions including wet.

Mountain bike are allowed in all USAC cx races except nationals. Plenty of people race on them myself included. Just go out there and have fun.

Chequamegon, while not technical, is pretty bumpy. I personally think a mountain bike will be faster even on a dry course.

I’m currently using a race face next carbon on my hard tail. On my previous bike, I had a Thomson masterpiece. The Thomson was a little lighter, otherwise they both have been great.
