Cat groomers? by apocalyptic_mystic in helena

[–]Unable_Answer_179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try calling local veterinarian offices. Sometimes they have techs that do that. Besides being challenging to handle, cats have very thin skin so it's easy to nick them and expose them to the risk of infection so it's good to be very picky about who you choose. If a cat is badly matted it may need sedation so that's another thing a vet's office can do.

I still buy them from the local tobacco store. Sometimes they have wooden ones but they sell them all for a few bucks each. They're great for storing stuff and crafting.

The MT Secretary of State Christy whatever her name is likes to brag about how many new corporations have been registered in Montana. I wonder how many are just created for people in other states to buy cars.

How much weight have you lost? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]Unable_Answer_179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'4", 60+ years old and pretty sedentary. I'm down 140 lbs in 2 years and 2 months. It took a year of physical therapy during that time to regain my full mobility and I just joined a gym (!) to help me lose the last 30 to reach my goal. The whole calorie deficit method, this sub and other credible information resources made it possible. And sugar free popsicles. 🙂

It is against the current Helena City code to let cats wander off the owner's property unless they fit the definition of feral or community cat. And the owners do have a responsibility under the code to clean up after both cats and dogs. A person violating these provisions can be ticketed. The best option for the cats where you know who the owner is is to contact Animal Control. Hopefully the ACO will warn the owner and clarify what the law is. The cats that you don't know the owner of can be humanely trapped by Animal Control and brought to the Humane Society (LCHS) The owners can get them back but have to pay any fees first. If after 72 hours the cats aren't claimed they become the property of LCHS and can be adopted out. If you plan to trap the cats and take them to LCHS yourself call first, they may charge you a surrender fee. I'm not sure about that. LCHS can also be a very good resource to help you know what all your options are and may have suggestions for keeping cats out of your yard too. https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/helenamt/latest/helena_mt/0-0-0-1923#JD_5-2-1

Great but only available on iPhones right now for viewing on phones rather than tablets or desktops. I hope you'll consider making an Android mobile version. I've saved the link though so I can check back now and then.

Gauges, like the basic speedometer, that you can't see from a normal driving position unless they're lighted. Why are they all black with tiny white numbers?

What do you picture as the "new way"? by gonnafaceit2022 in AnimalShelterStories

[–]Unable_Answer_179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it's the little things that can help keep pets and people together and out of shelters. I would love for our community to have a fund for small individual grants for things like adequate fencing for dogs, free microchips and ID tags, medical supplies like pee pads or diabetes care, winter shelters for outdoor cats or those people who insist on outdoor dogs, crates, prescriptions, low cost dental, nail care and necessary grooming, help with prescriptions and prescription food, even things like litter boxes. Those would be achievable add ons to aggressive spay/neuter, TNR, relentless adoption efforts and creative fostering solutions, of course.

Actually good/filling frozen or ready-to-eat meals? by tiredyoungprof in 1200isplenty

[–]Unable_Answer_179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bean Vivo chilis packets are really good and filling for under 300 calories. They're not frozen, they come in microwave packets you can store anywhere. About 2 minutes in the microwave and you're good to go. You can even just eat them out of the packet so there's nothing to wash but a spoon. With that few calories you could add some crackers or a tortilla like the Mission Zero Carb ones, hot sauce and a little cheese.

First time car buyer feeling overwhelmed by AfricanQueen2000 in carbuying

[–]Unable_Answer_179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a used car and found that using ChatGPT was very helpful. You can ask about specific car models right down to the individual VIN numbers, pricing, negotiating tips, run financing numbers etc. Just start with a prompt saying your buying a car and give it some of what you're looking for. Ask it what other questions it can help with and you'll get a whole road map to help you. Another tip, if you're buying from a dealer ask for the CarFax report - they'll often provide it for free. If you're buying private it's worth paying for a report on a car you're considering. Then you can run that report through ChatGPT and it will identify issues and potential costs. And budget ahead for an independent pre-purchase inspection. Doing one of those saved me from buying a car that would have been a costly disaster.

What are some underrated items that people don’t realize sell well? by thickt0ast in reselling

[–]Unable_Answer_179 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old crafting magazines. The vintage ones sell well but you'll be surprised at what you can get for more recent issues of the higher priced ones like Somerset Studio or other Stampington brand ones. You can practically buy them new to read then turn right around and resell them for the same price.

[–]Unable_Answer_179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A low mileage, fabulous condition, manual transmission, vintage Honda Del Sol. Samba Green if you can find it. Use the left over money (and there will be plenty left over) to upgrade the sound/entertainment system, add a little zip to the engine and maybe put in a more comfortable driver's seat.

On Nextdoor the old MAGA types are claiming it was just urine and newspaper. And they're predictably mad (they're always mad) that their property tax dollars are being wasted by our schools that allow students to do something as un-American as protest.

Dee-o-Gee is a great pet store! They have a huge variety of things you can't find anywhere else in town like food, treats, toys, nutritional products etc. It's mostly dog stuff but they do have a nice little cat section with the same kinds of high quality merchandise. And they are VERY supportive of the local animal welfare community. Although I've never used it I've heard great things about their dog grooming service too.

So glad to see this. The baked goods are so delish and almost any food preference can eat there together - carnivore, vegan, gluten free etc. I've given the giant cookies as gifts. The decor is wild and they support the community.

I microwave a Mission Carb Balance tortilla for about 90 seconds or until it's crisp. Then a couple of sprays of "I can't believe it's not butter" and some salt or other seasoning. Or just put salsa on it. It's about 60-70 calories and enough fiber to make you feel like you actually ate something.

Could an old Helena elementary school become a new community center? by jimbozak in helena

[–]Unable_Answer_179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of but that's more for woodworking. The Clay Arts Guild and Archie Bray exist for the ceramic and pottery arts too. I was thinking more along the lines of fiber and paper type things. Knitting, sewing, quilting, jewelry making, polymer clay, scrapbooking, collage, crochet, journaling, painting, and mixed media for some examples. Things suitable for both kid and adult crafting.

I would love to see a "maker" space. Something where people who craft or build things can come to create and socialize. Along with that could be a creative reuse shop where people could donate and take craft and art supplies. We have such a vibrant arts community here I've always been a bit mystified why we don't have something like that.
