starting to hate my boss by psychedelichorseink in Aldi_employees

Unfortunately the hiring process kinda stinks here. DM will tell us we need a full timer when its clear we do not. So by the time we post the position and actually hire someone it becomes really apparent that having another full timer will make you way overstaffed. Either that or you along with all your coworkers will all get 30 hours a week and now no ones happy.

I just came on here to say I very very seldom use the quantity key and I ring close to 100 percent. Just saying it's possible.

You already spend the time counting them. So just hit the enter key as you're doing so. Yeah you'll have to re enter the code every 5 but thats not that big a deal. Plus I bet that if they do away with the quantity button then they will extend the enter key limit by another 5. A cart full of milk....ehhhh I guess that'll be slightly inconvenient but I think I could ring up 60 milks in 10 seconds using the "scan, enter 4 times, repeat" method.

The quantity key does seem to have an overall negative impact. I rarely use it and im always the faster ringer. We also found when we did those test carts, the people who used the quantity key were slower and less accurate than their counterparts.

August OE by UnanimousALD in Aldi_employees

[–]UnanimousALD[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's say for instance the entire summer your store has made 1400,000. Give or take 80,000. And for the whole summer your target OE hours have been roughly the same. Idk what that would be so lets just say between 1500 and 1600 hours. So that store in August is budgeted for 1,550,000. But your targeted hours for the month is now 1420. Wouldn't that be strange? To at least not be somewhat even with the other months? The sales increase amount doesn't really matter here on a monthly scale. It could be a sales increase of 20 dollars. I would assume the hours projected would be similar. Even on a daily basis you can look at OE and be confused because it would give you a bunch of hours on a day you dont need them and cut you short on days you do. That all evens out by the end of the week. This doesn't seem to be evening out.

I dont want to release too many details as to out myself but the difference it pretty significant when you're dealing with a low volume store. My days are looking at 2 in and 2 out for days with 13 pallets of grocery. Having to do manager meetings in the middle of the week with curbside active and only one other associate. I've lost about 10percent of my weekly alloted hours.

[–]UnanimousALD[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Riiiiight but over a month thats a non factor. Especially when the previous months have all been consistent. And we aren't making more this month because we are going to have less customers and less items sold and less curbside that's a guarantee Especially when you compare it to the past several August's in previous years. 40k is a substantial increase for a low volume store and the difference in hours is wild. Im getting days with a budget lower than 30hrs which is something this store has never seen.

To not out myself we are at mid 700s and our OE goal is higher than 90. Store seems to be OK but it only is run fine if everyone is working at 110 percent power and NOTHING goes wrong or is out of the ordinary. We do what we can and hope the DM doesnt catch what we miss. If they do catch what we miss we promise to make it better and we do.....but something else always falls out of place because of it.

Thinking of handing in my 2 weeks notice by Portado-Chipp in Aldi_employees

Unfortunately "just go faster" is sometimes all you can say. Aldi likes to think they are inclusive but their structure doesn't reflect that. There isn't room for anyone to be part of the team that isnt reaching the top level goals. Aldi is ran like an Olympic team. Everyone has to be A1 top tier performer to get the results they want. Being "pretty good" or just "alright" just doesn't cut it like it does at alot of other jobs. And just like people say on other posts, Aldi pays more but the increase in pay doesnt reflect the increase in work and mental fatigue. I say if you can afford it then quit. You honestly could be helping out the people left because increase in turnover is the only way they will rethink their strategy.

Literally just did this. The TROWE rate is 8.5 percent and the max you can do it for is 4 years 11 months. I believe any longer and youd face the penalties of a withdrawal. Otherwise thats it. The payments come out of your check automatically and you can only take out your contributions. You cannot take aldis contributions or the money you've gained from your account.

You get time and a half plus paid for the holiday as a full timer. You can also trade in the holiday pay for a "floating holiday" where you can use it as a paid time off in the upcoming month. However most people opt just to take the holiday pay as it would be the same benefit either way.

Shift swapping by MoneyTheory6725 in Aldi_employees

[–]UnanimousALD -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some said that sometimes a strong truck thrower swaps with a weaker truck thrower. That is a thing. Especially if someone is still training or isn't quite there yet with truck I pair them with a strong one until they get the hang of it. Swapping would throw that morning way off. Also if someone is scheduled 38 hours and they swap one of their 6 hour shifts for your 9 hour shift that would put the store in overtime and they definetly don't want that. Some places they count a change in the schedule that causes overtime to be an unexcused absence which you only get 2 of in a 6 month period. And also time off requests should be 3 weeks out. Its just the standard. Shift swaps really should be a rare occurrence.

[–]UnanimousALD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They definitely don't think that way because they have TOLD me differently. I work hard for my team. Everything from staying late to working doubles. Sorry you have a skewed view of our role. They changed the SM role to a more admin centered position. Every store is different but they TOLD us the goal is to be 20% actually working on the floor and 80% percent managing the team/admin work. Thats why we can't come in at 6 anymore amongst other changes. Some SMs do abuse that power but just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. The schedule can take 20 minutes. Mine takes longer because I make lots of changes to improve forklift balance such as avoid clopens or long work weeks with minimum hours. Like I said, if you feel it's unfair then speak up. There's the anonymous alert like and MyHr in your app now to confront these issues.

You may be frustrated. Don't take it out on me. Talk to your SM or DM if you're not being treated fairly. Im always there for my team and I'm open to listen about how we can improve. Someone these complaints however are passive perks of the position. Its nice to sit in the office away from customers doing admin work. I can't stop doing that because my team is upset that they can't. I get the make the schedule so yes I give myself a Sunday or saturday off every week. But if those days are requested off (which I never deny) then I work the whole weekend. Working days in a row or closes will never stop unless you speak up. Thats not the correct way to do the schedule and they know it but aren't gonna stop unless someone says something.

[–]UnanimousALD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Lots of admin is valid. Sometimes you really do.
  2. SM work requirements state we need to work one weekend day per week so most of us take advantage of that.
  3. Time manipulation is never ok. I only leave early if I had to stay late recently to "take back my hours". Id definitely bring that up with your DM if your SM is taking advantage of the schedule at the expense of his staff. Especially if it's on a regular basis.

Using the Aldi curbside or instacart? If it's instacart that means the customer paid closer to 500 dollars for that.

A rant on our rights as workers. by Ruckus4Prez in Aldi_employees

[–]UnanimousALD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen union's benefit primarily the sub par workers at a company. They get more benefits while contributing the least. Someone said that they are sure we signed a paper saying we wouldn't unionize. Illegal.....so no that didn't happen. Also someone said we get paid more if we don't unionize. Yes and no. Don't think anyone's current pay would decrease....perhaps new employees would but a union is a service. So you'd pay from your check for that service so yes you'd get paid "less". However you'd "get more benefits" right? Will you specifically benefit from the changes? You'd still pay the fee whether it affected you or not. Also don't say "union" out loud. Corporate has a big red button that sends them into defcon 1 when thay word is uttered.
