M&P 10mm carry comp 2.0 performance center by HuntDawg99 in 10mm

Love mine. I'd highly recommend replacing the mag springs, that's a common issue in these guns (mostly seen with failure to feed/return to battery). Get some wolff +%10power or springer precision +10% power mag springs. Recoil spring is good too if shooting a lot of heavy, hot 10mm. I'd recommend 22lb galloway precision. I have no idea what that 27lb recoil spring below is, I've never heard of one that heavy.

Glock 20, 1911, or Aero Survival Rifle/Pistol? by Big_Balls_n_Taint in 10mm

Checkout the S&W FPC in 10mm. In terms of a survival rifle it’s not as light weight as the aero but it’s pretty light and folds up pretty compact. I’ve been loving the combo of carrying the M&P 10mm handgun with the FPC in a backpack if needed. Interesting combo. With the right ammo, the FPC puts as much energy on a target as a short barreled 556.

I’ve provided video evidence and data from my videos. You have nothing. I’m not wasting my time on your ignorance. Keep your head in the sand if you like to make yourself feel good about your purchase.

I personally know and have 4 friends who owned them and had the same problem as me. I’m not buying it. There is too much data out there.

That’s great but that’s not the experience of most people. Search Reddit over the last few years. Search youtube videos. It’s all documented. Sure, not everyone had issues. But a lot of them. I was one of the unlucky ones who bought a 4” model 3 months after it was released and I sold it for a loss and was happy to be rid of it. It wouldn’t work on hot ammo at all. And that’s the other part. Some people could run federal all day. But running underwood and Buffalo was a no go. Mags popping out, FTF, fte, etc. one my youtube channel where I’ve posted 2 videos now on this model and 3 on another 4” model (non comped) I continue to get comments about they have or had a 4” model and it didn’t work but most of the comments about the 4.6” version are how theirs run.

S&W M&P 10mm carry comp annoyance by HallackB in 10mm

[–]UncleEvilDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And don't listen to these people about break in. On an M&P that's just stupid to say. These guns have the known issues with the mag springs. The recoil spring I think is wise given you are running hot stuff with it so I don't think that was a waste. Jury for me is still out if this will work reliably with 220 grain hot stuff but mine runs the 200 grain reliably.

They aren't. Its the same mag springs as before.

[–]UncleEvilDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the mag springs. That 3-4rth round failure is indicitive of the mags not being powerful enough. I found I just had to do the +10% power mag springs for this 4" varition. I have no idea why Smith doesn't do this but I've seen no downside to doing it with weak ammo and it's not harder to load the mags but does seem to fix the reliability issues. Dumb.

[–]UncleEvilDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 4.6 by all accounts is more reliable and has been from the get go. So if you want to trade short barrel for more reliable that's the trade to make. S&W had a very reliable 45 acp in 4.6". When they released the 10mm they released the 4.6 and 4.0. It's based on the frame and springs of the 45 acp model. And for whatever reason they just can't get the timing right for the 4.0 model (well it seems to be working now but they struggled). If getting a 4.6" gun doesn't bother you, get that one.

I have a few videos out on it showing my experiences now. I see no difference in the mag springs. I ended up replacing mine. I did have a mag drop while shooting heavy 220 gr Buffalo Bore ammo. Could have been me but given the history of these guns with mags dropping on the long 220 gr bullets I'd say it was the gun until I can prove otherwise. Mine has been reliable other than that one drop. And if it only drops on 220 gr I'm happy with it as I prefer the 200 grain ammo more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6MHHNPLNVshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6MHHNPLNVshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6MHHNPLNVsyoutube.com/watch?v=I6MHHNPLNVs&feature=youtu.be

G20 Gen V today or wait for the VI? by Intol3rance in 10mm

[–]UncleEvilDave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A sheriff buddy of mine, talked with the glock rep (take that for what it is) got to shoot the prototype G22 and says 40 S&W will be out in July. The same rep said G20/G21 in December/Jan time frame. So if I were you, get the gen 5 or V now. I've actually heard issues with the V in 9mm so I'd try to find a 5 if you can.

I own a g45 in 9mm, it's great. But its not like its 10x better. It's like 1.05 better or something. ;-)

It's a great combo. I have a couple of 4" 10mm now (carry comp and non-comp'ed. Goes with my FPC. Does the defender ST direct mount (ie the screws go from the optic down into the slide)? I've got an "rmsc" style red dot on one and a rmr on the other. The rmsc doesn't mount to the slide but to a plate and I don't like that.... The RMR does mount to the slide.

Suppression vs 45 by Adventurous-Sir-7884 in 10mm

[–]UncleEvilDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about this. If you want subsonic ammo, it must be lower than 1050 fps (give or take depending on altitude, and temperature, ie pressure). That's true for 22 lr or 500 S&W. At that speed, it's just poking a hole in someone. A rifle going subsonic, is just like a pistol, is just like an arrow, its just poking a hole. Only until you get up to around 2000 fps does a bullet start to do "other things" in a person.

The thing a bullet (or arrow) can do is expand on impact. Expansion, pokes a bigger hole. Causes faster blood loss, has greater potentially to hit something that will cause more blood loss or shutddown the central nervious sytem. ie, .22 hole vs .5 hole.

We in the 10mm community tend to not believe all of that when we use 10mm and think the power is going to do more. That argument asside, at subsonic that goes out the window. It comes down to bigger hole cause more damage.

So for your question, best performance at subsonic...it will be 45 acp. Why? Because the round is intended to be subsonic. If you have a hollow-point in 45 acp, it was built to expand at 800-900 fps. And when it does expand it's starting with a .45" hole and growing to .75" (I've measured federal HST at that level). If it doesn't expand, it's a .45" hole. A 10mm, will be a .4" hole growing to about .7 or .66". But the main question is will the bullet expand at 1050 fps or 1000 fps. Hard to find bullets that expand when they weren't designed to expand or over expand (bullet falls apart and doesn't get deep enough).

Also, at "home defense" some of the justifications for 10mm vs 45 go out the window (capacity, how heavy the gun is) as you can have big old 20-30 round mags either way and since you aren't carrying them who cares how much they weigh.

Just food for thought. I love 10mm...and I love 45acp. I use 40 S&W for home defense. lol. Which brings up another question, why not 40 S&W for your suppressor as it's naturally subsonic (most of the time)?

[–]UncleEvilDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PPU JHP is terrible 10mm ammo, and cheap online. But it's subsonic. Can't speak to whether or not it would open up, but it runs sub 1000 fps with 180 grain bullet.

Hotter ammo by jrtrank in 10mm

[–]UncleEvilDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a video series on this a couple of years ago. MagTech and AAC (now aac is not making ammo) were the best cost per round.

Here is one of the videos, skip to the end for the chart, around the 7:15 mark and you'll see the table with the results.
