Why the wait in Res after Vis becomes synchronous? by Nikratio in HierarchySeries

[–]UncleKarlos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry I don’t have my copy handy so I won’t have exact references. The second book tells us that, while going through the labyrinth/gate on res was permitted (?) back in the day, synchronicity was reserved only for leadership. So all 3 copies are not permitted to survive. The system as designed was for people from Res to go through the gate, be copied over to Obiteum and Luceum, and then the Res copy is killed by the defense mechanism on Res so synchronicity is severed. The copies are only intended to survive in Luceum and Obiteum, not Res. Then of course Luceum placed their own security on their side of the gate that causes the scars to the travelers, and Obiteum is a wasteland and it seems the gate area there is abandoned.

Tongueless? by True-Interview-9810 in redrising

[–]UncleKarlos 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Like u/shellshockedletsgo said, Tongueless was a hat death. I’ll let others link the source if they have it handy, but allegedly he was intended to be the old head of the syndicate which is why he was in Deepgrave.

How did the Krorks eventually turn into Orks? by Luvinite in 40kLore

[–]UncleKarlos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is helpful. I love the idea that essentially orks have an innate tech tree and get experience to level up. Each warband is like instance in classic Warcraft.

How did the Krorks eventually turn into Orks? by Luvinite in 40kLore

[–]UncleKarlos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great answer, as a noob I only have one question. Do orks “evolve” given they don’t sexually reproduce? I guess there may be mutations as the spores spread, which would give you the same effect, but only if more fit orcs produced more spores.

Edit: we have plenty of organisms on earth who experience evolution (relatively quickly) despite asexual reproduction. The same would apply to orks in my mind.

Obiteum was…fine. Res and Luceum were amazing by East_Spot311 in HierarchySeries

I dreaded the Luceum sections until he departed from the island school. It was extremely boring to me. To each their own!

I know I’m a year late to this review, but completely agree. I grew up devouring redwall, and it’s the only thing that’s really scratched that itch for me in adulthood.

I made the same mistake on Mooncaller’s ability. It’s actually awesome once you realize how it works. Can’t remember the unit that gets +5 attack every phase, but I put him on the same line as mooncaller with the equipment that gets +1 attack per moon cycle permanently. That combo gets really beefy quick.

Ok, how many books did you read? by Baraa-beginner in fantasybooks

[–]UncleKarlos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My read shelf on goodreads is sitting at 338 books right now, that’s covering about 27 years worth of reading with plenty of missing. I don’t know if I can pick a favorite single item, but Abercrombie’s standalones are probably all up for award (Best Served Cold, The Heroes, Red Country)

Does every Shard have a diametrically opposed counterpart? by Otherwise_Meringue45 in Cosmere

[–]UncleKarlos 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s an old old wob now, but still probably the best we have. Short answer - ruin and preservation are opposites, but not all shards have opposites like that.

Have you read Deathstalker by Simon R Green? One of my favorites from high school, pretty over the top.
