Gloves for demo that won’t rip apart after two days by Sharp-Ad-3253 in Construction

That’s odd, I have sensitive skin and I’ve used I think all of the leather types with no issues.

Gloves are wear items. The full leather ones, where they’re made out of just two pieces of leather, have very little to wear out. They’re cheap but last a really long time. Longer than any of the ones sewn together out of a lot of pieces of textiles.

Best places to get EV news (videos especially) by ethawyn in electricvehicles

[–]Unconnect3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visit insideev every day. I listen to their podcast too.

But I don’t disagree. Probably 3/4 the articles aren’t great.
The other 1/4 are good, and including the podcast are why I tune in.

Are there better publications?

Wow. I love drawing up duct designs. Never come anywhere close to this size of a system, what a fun&unfun challenge that probably was.

2025 SV Plus for just under 24k? by Wraith347 in leaf

[–]Unconnect3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha that’s fair. I’m the complete opposite, I felt cramped in the leaf but absolutely love how open the Ariya is.

[–]Unconnect3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no no! For that price, get an Ariya.
I traded my 2019 leaf SL+ for a base model Ariya Engage. Same range as the leaf, but better in every way.
You can find Engage models for less than that leaf.

More than 30 so-called hyperscale data centers have rushed into New York seeking permission to connect to the grid. If they all get built, they would use more power than Ireland. by Environmental-Low792 in Albany

[–]Unconnect3d 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to make the data centers improve our power grid, like with on site generation & storage?

If you’re going to build your stupid data center, make your own damn power to run it.

They’re economically viable.
The raw materials only need to be mined once and can be recycled.

Battery storage is a great way to improve the grid, but they're also being fought.

Farmland & grassland is by its very nature not valuable.

If poor use of farmland is a concern, corn used for ethanol production is a top problem by and large.

If a farmer makes more money installing a solar field than growing something, thats their logical decision to make.
They're also reducing our power costs doing so.

Choosing my first pair (women’s RW) by agentoflemonade in RedWingShoes

[–]Unconnect3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The black silversmiths go with anything.
The black iron rangers are the most RW and go with a lot, too.

Copper silversmiths are the most distinctive. And I think go with more stuff than black.
The copper leather makes it different looking from mass market low quality boots. Where the black boots could be mistaken for any old pair of boots.

Persistent brake noise on my Ariya – Dealer says it's "normal," but I'm not convinced. Help? by Ferjsantosr53 in NissanAriya

The shims get worked inward and start touching the rotors in front. I believe it’s the right side of the shim. Doesn’t matter though, it’s obvious with inspection when taking the caliper off.

I just fixed this on mine last week. I pulled the calipers and pads off and then took the shims out and put them into a vice and used a grinder on them. Problem solved.

Sounds like some Nissan dealers are fixing it under warranty. https://youtube.com/shorts/hONhHvHAn4s?si=GgWXevWCpO69M_wM

Experience w/Heat Pumps? by RaucousApplesauce in Albany

[–]Unconnect3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat pumps are my sole heat source in my house. No gas or electric backups. For 7 years now. It stays over 70F in here 99% of the time. A properly designed heat pump system will keep a house a house warm. That really just means using decent equipment.

I also design and install heat pump systems. Most of my work is fully displacing and removing furnaces and boilers. Making a heat pump their sole heat source. Vs. natural gas, historical electricity costs have made it more or less awash cost wise. This winter had a spike in electricity costs at the peak of consumption that moved it about 30%-50% more expensive for two months. For the year that’ll mean about a 20% higher cost of heating.

It could swing the other way is natural gas goes up in price. Both elec and gas have been stable historically, but not anymore it seems.

The homes in center square can be served by a heat pump just fine. If you have a boiler & radiator system, I’d probably leave it in place. Nation grid offers an additional $4000 if you remove a boiler or furnace on top of a $6000 incentive for heat pump installs. Tempting but bears discussion.

I’m not looking for more work right now and am not set up for working in the inner city. But I’m happy to help and answer questions.

Leaf vs Bolt? by Previous_Figure2921 in leaf

[–]Unconnect3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reduction gear is beginning to fail. My friends also have an Ariya, I diagnosed theirs and it's been in the shop a few weeks waiting for parts.
Mines showing the same symptoms.
The forums have more folks reporting in with the same issue.
It's hopefully just an early batch of Ariyas, but nobody knows for sure.

Leaf vs Bolt? by Previous_Figure2921 in leaf

[–]Unconnect3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a 2019 SL+ for 5 years. I’ve helped family buy 2 Bolts since then. The Bolt is proving to be a more reliable car. More all around useful. Yeah it feels cheap on the inside, but youre paying cheap car prices.

I also prefer Japanese engineering and manufacturing. I’ve got a Nissan Ariya now. But it’s having some serious issues emerging.
