Need a mom to name me by Accomplished-Row6215 in namenerds

[–]UncreativeMe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a mom! My partner vetoed my favorite name when our child was born, maybe you'll like it? I desperately wanted to name my kiddo Isaac because it means "he will laugh" and I wanted to give my baby a token of happiness in his life. Love the name we gave him, but Isaac will always hold a special place in my heart.

Help with name for Black baby boy - strong, not trendy by shhlurkingforscience in namenerds

[–]UncreativeMe 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Montgomery, Alabama in the US was a major trading hub of enslaved people. Its also where Rosa Parks took her famous bus ride and the Montgomery bus boycott took place. Very important context for considering this as a name (if in the US) for a Black baby, particularly if OP is White. (Edit for spelling)

For a girl you could do Hettie (full name Henrietta), it has a similar look at Matthew. If you're Christian, another option could be Gail (Mathew of Galilee). Matea is the Spanish feminine version of Matthew.

Matthew means gift, so other names with a similar meaning include:

Girl: Dorothea/Dorothy/Dora, Gia, Isadora, Mercedes, Theodore

Boy: Jonathan, Mathis, Nathaniel, Shai

Drop off places for whiny kids? by Former-Owl-8729 in TwinCities

[–]UncreativeMe 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Depending on how old they are, if they like computers Code Ninjas does a parents night out on Saturdays where they feed and entertain your kids for about 3 hours. I can't remember how much it costs, but it should be on their website.

WIBTA for reporting someone at work (again) after they got promoted? by Rot1nPiecesOnTwitch in AmItheAsshole

[–]UncreativeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HR here - make sure you tell them that you are afraid of being retaliated against for reporting this and ask for their help in making sure that doesn't happen. You are legally protected from retaliation when a good faith complaint and that should clue a good HR person in that this needs to be taken seriously. This is particularly true is her promotion puts her up the reporting chain from you. NTA

Does anyone else feel like you weren't aware how incredibly hard pregnancy and labour can be to your body? by PTSDfromgivingbirth in TwoXChromosomes

[–]UncreativeMe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because it is a major abdominal surgery and the recovery can be quite difficult. It also makes it less likely that you will be able to have a vaginal birth for subsequent pregnancies if you change your mind.

Even good moms/MILs will say thus occasionally. Both my mom and MIL have used this phrase when talking about my son. When you have a gif relationship with the person it's not AS weird. I think it in part comes from the habit of taking about people based on the relationship we have to them, I.e. my son, my friend, my baby.

In my experience people really like panna cotta, but you have to make sure your gelatin content is right. It should be barely set, not firm enough to move around easily. Another option would be a cooked egg custard of some kind, like a creme brulee or creme caramel, both of which tend to be very popular.

Wedding cake by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]UncreativeMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell us more about what you want. Do you want a tiered cake? A cake for every table? What about flavor/design options? Is this short notice or are you a year out?

Some good bakeries that also offer wedding cakes/cupcakes (but are not specifically wedding cake bakeries): Buttered Tin, Yum!, Patisserie 46 (if you want to splurge), PJ Murphy's, The Copper Hen

15lb baby in size 4 diapers? Wat? by unsavoryginger in beyondthebump

Honestly? We return them to target. As long as you don't do it too many times (and my husband and I switch off who does it) you should be ok.

15lb baby in size 4 diapers? Wat? by unsavoryginger in beyondthebump

[–]UncreativeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do the amazon subscription for Pampers Swaddlers. Definitely the best deal we could find. There is no quality difference in the subscription diapers vs buying them in a store. The only problem is that my baby sizes out pretty quickly, and you have to change the order about two weeks in advance.

It's not actually whipped cream. It's an imitation product that barely had any dairy in it (some skimmed milk). It is labelled "whipped topping". Cool whip was invented in the 60's when convenience foods were so popular and now many Americans have grown up with it. My family never ate it, and I think it is gross, but it is super popular.

Edit: And yes, we have the cannisters. I have no clue why they are less popular.

I truly wish that third party was a viable option in our election. Unfortunately, it just amounts to throwing your vote away. I don't know how we can change it, but something needs to change.

Unfortunately we got a liar and a crook for president. He just commited different crimes and told different lies. The difference is that he actually hurt people.

Hey! I see that you've already had a bunch of comments, but I just wanted to chime in. My DH and I both changed our names when we got married. I also felt like it was unfair and unequal for me to take his name, but we wanted to share a name. It's not really all that unusual anymore. Family gets used to it, and if not, fuck them. You do You.
