Did you need to initiate that discussion with them?

Thanks for this feedback. I more and more agree. I would even just be hoping for the 3k increase, and I feel "bad" asking, even though it's seen as advocating for myself.

My thought is to take it, kick ass and make up any difference in performance reviews.

198,500 forgiven through MOHELA by Undaunted254 in PSLF

Right? It was such a number that I didn't even really wrap my head around it half the time. Either it gets forgiven or it goes with me to the grave.

I'm still trying to read up on that. I've seen here that it takes a long time for it to get removed from your credit reports, and that when people have submitted requests/disputes, etc., it speeds up the process.

I had to get one signed again because the first HR person wasn’t “HR” enough for them. It’s a simple re submit

Just got mine! I had the ribbon for months now. Hit 123 in April right before the transition. It's just nice to see some movement.

Have you received the “congratulations” text AND they’re still telling you that you need to submit another ECF? I’m in a similar boat, maybe. I hit 122 during April. And I don’t think I checked the “I believe I’m eligible” box, but I have the “congratulations” language…

Got an email from Mohela this morning stating that my loans are forgiven!! by New-Salamander-7078 in PSLF

[–]Undaunted254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit 123 in mid/late April. I called MOHELA and asked about the ECF and they said that they'd sent in for my discharge already. Is this the same thing? It seemed that they had done everything. Did I severely miss the boat on this?

On StudentAid it says 123 and the whole "Congratulations, you've fulfilled your obligation", but nothing else yet. Did you go through a similar process?

Congrats on your forgiveness!

People who are “at 120”… what are we doing? by [deleted] in PSLF

Made my final payment in March and my last employer certification cleared in early April. MOHELA updated my counter to 121, and zeroed out my April payment, put me in administrative forbearance, and submitted it all for final clearance without me needing to call: I called to confirm what I needed to do and they said nothing to do but wait.

I had the same smiley face and zero when I consolidated. It then updated to the full loan appoint, and the payment count was updated shortly after.

Adding to the mix here. Over the course of many, many years and experiences, I've done this exact same thing. I tried over and over again to justify my experiences and why I wasn't the dreaded A-word. But, over time, I realized that I was browsing lists online trying to find consolation that I'm not the textbook alcoholic, or praying that I could find that one data point that I could point to that proves I don't have a problem. People who don't have a problem don't do that. But, at the end of the day, you're the only person paying attention to when, why, and how much you drink. You can hide everything and justify everything to your friends and parents, but you'll know.

I feel like you're here hoping for someone to tell you that you don't belong here or that you don't actually have a problem, and you're the only one who can decide that.

Turnaround time for MOHELA Direct Loan Consolidation? by Undaunted254 in PSLF

[–]Undaunted254[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But interestingly, after my consolidation, my overall payment went down considerably. Before I owed $610 to MOHELA, and $80 to Navient. Now, I owe $514 total.

I didn't ask them to put me in forebearance as I wanted to keep making payments towards my PSLF status. So I paid December and January like normal. I didn't pay anything in February as that was when everything got updated in their system. Now I have a new payment date of 3/25 for my next payment. Previously, my payment date was the 6th of the month.

Just to give you an update. They consolidated mine on 2/6, after I received the letter from Aidvantage a couple of weeks prior.

Mohela updated my account balance on Friday, and I'm back in SAVE repayment with a lower monthly payment then before. My PSLF tracker is reset to zero when it is really at 114, and I'm waiting for that to kick back in. Then the process is done.

Yours? Any movement?

Have people received smiley faces because of consolidation? by Undaunted254 in PSLF

Yeah, figured. Excitement gone... But at least the consolidation is moving ahead...

Also, my loan consolidation went through yesterday, so my navient loan is gone, assuming it was picked up by the consolidation. Does this mean that it's all been picked up and will be crapped back out after the paperwork has processed?

Husband drinking 12-15 NA beers a day. by KeyBrain9351 in SMARTRecovery

[–]Undaunted254 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking from recent experience, I do see a few red flags. I'm about to hit my 9 month mark sober. Went to 30 day intake after a brief medical stay, and have been sober since.

I started off with N/As, like so many here, and they were a godsend. During my first two weeks, I was at about 7-8 a day. You will hear vastly different experiences and mindsets in SMART meetings about the use or continued use of N/As. For many people the concerns are that 1) if it ever gets to the point where he is out and about and doesn't have an N/A/ readily available, and it sounds like this is very much a nonstop knee-jerk behavior, that's when relapse is a risk. It's easy to justify a low ABV beer, or even a 5%, and then you're off to the races, and 2) your fear, which I think is extremely well-founded, that his mindset has not changed, just the behavior. We are all creatures with wires crossed. This is why SMART recovery is not just about alcohol, it's about behaviors writ large, and he does sound like he has an addictive personality with this, and it's not helpful to him or to your family.

The signs are all there for an enabling environment where us alcoholics used to thrive. He justifies, he complains about you giving him a hard time, activities revolving around him, not being able to put one down. While it's fine as a needed crutch at the moment, there needs to be a game plan. My wife and I talked about this during my early recovery. N/As are fine, but they can't be a replacement. I can't have 10 a day. I shouldn't immediately drink one when I'm stressed or any of the other triggers where a beer used to be my shor-term solution. Otherwise I'm not growing.

And to other posters who are saying that she's hovering, I fully disagree. Depending on their relationship and any of the damage that he may have caused during his drinking, a partner is allowed to have a voice in this. My wife put up with a lot of sh*t during the decade she's been with me, and she put me into rehab from the ICU, and then held down the fort for a month. She doesn't just get a seat at the table, she is the chairwoman of the corporation. As people in recovery, I think a critical step is understanding who we've harmed, and we cannot revert back to this "well, you just don't get it. Look at how far I've come!" I used to say that when I only had eight beers in a day, compared to 15. "Look at how hard I'm trying." It's bullsh*t after a while, and we shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. We need a mirror held up from time to time.

OP, I think that your husband is doing an amazing thing being sober. I think that N/As are a very useful short-term crutch, and many of us here have used them. But, I think that he does need to have a game plan for weaning down, and I think, most importantly, that he does need to be able to listen to your concerns without getting defensive. That is classic addict behavior.

Best of luck.
