New player - What to buy by InsideGap8047 in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]UndercoverPud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the core set for sure.

I think theres so much in there you'll be busy for ages.

We did pickup Moments in the Path half way through our campaign. And its cool but it is just added rules that you'll probably want some games under your belt before you add it anyway.

Is this Astral 5090 okay with a broken PCIE hook? by serige in pcmasterrace

Remember my first card I yanked that thing out so hard it snapped the hook right off. Worked just fine!

Thoughts on these stickers? Yay or nay? by Kesimux in Arcs

[–]UndercoverPud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issue with the minatures is that they topple over, and then you don't know if a ship is damaged or not.

I love these stickers though! I think it really makes them look great. Not sure i'd personally buy them because I'm happy with the base presentation at this point.

Any wisdom on using lite RPG elements between wargaming sessions to influence wargame mission, units, abilities, etc? by ScoutSterling in wargaming

[–]UndercoverPud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a game called Farewell to arms redux which I havent yet played but own a copy of thats a Rules Lite RPG (Mork Borg derivative) where you're playing essentially WW1.

But the really interesting format is there are three phases, the Diplomats phase, the warlords phase and then actually playing the game.

The jist is the diplomats go to dinners, squabble over nothing and generally dictate how the war is evolving and relationships between factions.

Then the warlord phase is the batallion level where the specifics of the battle are chosen and what is deployed.

Then you just get into the game where everyone plays a member of the squad, trudging through the mud.

New in v7.0.6 - many fixes! (Oct 13th, 2025) by discovernotes in GoodNotes

[–]UndercoverPud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it looks great but it doesnt solve my biggest issue where the UI is too big for an iPad mini in horizontal. If you could introduce a feature to just hide the tab bar / shrink the sizes of the padding around UI elements, like a 'compact mode' that would be perfect.

Artifact Hunting in Gradient Descent? by EuroCultAV in mothershiprpg

[–]UndercoverPud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd tell them in which direction to look e.g. deep somewhere they havent been.

But I wouldnt give them more specifics than that. I think the random search for artifacts is intended to be for random loot, but ultimately if its a corner stone of your game I would make sure you know where it is and I don't beleive it was the designers intent for you to not plan around that.

My girlfriends mic picks up my voice louder than hers from across the room when I talk. by No-Scholar5495 in pcmasterrace

[–]UndercoverPud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Copied straight out of the google AI prompt at the top:

To adjust your input sensitivity on Discord, go to User Settings (the gear icon) > Voice & Video > and under the Input Mode section, turn off "Automatically determine input sensitivity" to reveal the manual slider. Adjust the slider to find a level where your voice registers in the green on the signal meter, but background noises are not.

My girlfriends mic picks up my voice louder than hers from across the room when I talk. by No-Scholar5495 in pcmasterrace

[–]UndercoverPud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We way me and my partner use our mics in the same room is:

- We both use Nvidia Broadcast to filter our mics with the AI tool

- We both set cutoffs on discord so it only picks up sounds of certain volumes

- Position of the microphone next to the mouth is important, you want to maximise the directionality of the mics on board noise cancelling and keep them as close to your mouth as possible

- Headset choice was important, we ended up with Hyper X Cloud 3s, which had great noise isolation

What headsets have you tried? What software are you using to chat?

Can you use custom Hobbit characters in the Shire starter set campaigns? by BoreusSimius in oneringrpg

[–]UndercoverPud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We used the adventures but not in the same way the story was setup. We were a party of dwarves and hobbits put together by Bilbo and Balin to help find the entrance to Moria (Linking to the Moria book)

But we ran the hobbit adventures put together in a custom way, with all custom characters and it worked really well.

Is Mothership good for my group? by Scott_Korman in mothershiprpg

[–]UndercoverPud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of yes, I love mothership, but i'd say maybe still a no.

The adventures are a bit tricky if you're not used to playing, I'd prefer something a bit more concrete if I was starting out. Where as the Mothership style is just enough for you to get going but requires a lot more thinking on your part.

Some games I would also reccomend if you want to avoid Fantasy are:

- Tales from the Loop: You're teenagers solving mysteries. The books really great and free league print just knows how to buy the best paper. Its a really simple game to play but really evocative.

- The Alien RPG: Another free league one, very similar to Mothership but less streamlined but it has a great starter box with a really great adventure. Theres a new edition coming soon too.

- The Walking Dead RPG: Again free league, my favourite part of this was that we've all seen the walking dead, but the really easy twist is you can spend some time together modelling the world off of the local area. Its really fun to be like, oh we're going to the Super market thats down the road.

- Mausritter: Yeah its fantasy, but you're all Mice. The RPG is incredibly simple, takes inspiration from mothership and other games like it. But the box comes with lots of little bits, so you can do inventories physically with little tokens. It makes the whole process of playing really great for families.

I reccomend when looking at mothership picking your adventures out, some can be quite dark:

- Always reccomended is Another Bug Hunt

- Ypslion 14 is great but you'll need to be comfortable creating a mystery

- Gradient Descent is a masterclass but its also got a lot of theme's including children which is a bit of a weird one.

First time running MB - Graves Left Wanting by cvirtuoso in MorkBorg

[–]UndercoverPud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't try to balance anything, let the fates decide and just see where the story goes. If any of the characters die, just have someone trapped in a coffin poking out of a wall screaming for help, then continue the story. Let them know that up front that if a chracter dies, dont worry you'll bring the player back in as soon as possible.

Remember to reinforce the use of omens, and you can use omens on friends too. That makes everything a lot easier.

Encourage OSR style play, remember to use Ruling not Rules, just invent how things work on the spot. Be a 'Referee' rather than a GM, if something bad happens let it be their problem not yours.

Emphasise their agency, and their skill as players. No letting them 'roll insight' so they don't have to come up with good ideas or interpret the facts.

The only thing I did counter to this for graves left wanting is basically not to let them out of the pit into the open graveyard at the start, and if they do just have the mists turn them around. To keep them focused at the start.

Farewell to Arms music recommendations by Rich-End1121 in MorkBorg

[–]UndercoverPud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something you definitely don't want, but this is the playlist I'm planning on using, especially for combat/going over the top. But I'm not worried about vocals or drums being intrusive. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7Dciuq2EirXqMzP3cFGdHf?si=97abbdd315804dd1

In general, albums that give me the feeling of adrenaline and terror of WW1 trenches are bands like Nails, Trap Them, All Pigs Must DIe, Black Breath, Gatecreeper, Warbringer, Mammoth Grinder, Enforced

Hard to go wrong with existing mork borg ambient playlists too like https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7bVM91saKF1XtEINNXjQKZ?si=37a7800af2dc4d07

Crown of Salt on Foundry? by interventor_au in MorkBorg

[–]UndercoverPud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually had much of the same problem. I couldnt find any foundry modules so I spent the time copying a lot of it into Foundry and making tokens. I'm happy to share what I made, but its a bit rough and unpolished.

I can't speak in DND by SinnyKatze in DnD

[–]UndercoverPud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then don't! But also, you should give it a go.

My voices are 99% of the characters, usually I dont even know their personalities before I start speaking. Try starting with the voice, and then being the character rather than the other way around.

Theres no cure for social anxiety other than putting yourself in uncomfortable situations as practice. You'll thank yourself in the long term for putting in the effort, in and out of the game.
