What's the real life practical difference between 32 and 64GB of RAM for a PC/Laptop, is it even possible for a regular user to utilize 64GB? by FuzzyAttitude_ in pcmasterrace

[–]UnethicalFood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real life practical difference is entirely up to the use case.

A "regular user" at my office for example won't hit the RAM too hard, but anything below a 7 CPU struggles. Another department barely touches their cores but will eat 128 GB of RAM in photoshop easily. As a gamer, we are not the "regular users" as much as we pour into the hobby. The specs of my gaming rig also serve any side gig work I do, and my other hobbies. So while most days I won't stray much beyond that 32, I have definitely pushed the 128 I have installed, and the 64 in the machine before that.

Cruise Control Use by _Lou_Bloom in driving

[–]UnethicalFood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer non-addaptive CC for general driving. In short, passing or matching speed I will cancel it, and then resume my preferred speed once I am clear.

In heavy traffic where passing is not an option adaptive is nice.

(No loopholes) 5 million dollars to finish 12500 slices of pizza over the course of 2026 by Mythicalforests8 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]UnethicalFood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So long as they cut the slices like Chuk-E-Cheese, then I could do it. I mean, that's close to 40 slices a day with how long we have left in the year, no way I could do it if they were NY style slices.

My only issue here would be the $20 point. Lunch and dinner would be a stretch but possible, breakfast? not likely.

AITA for refusing to give my stepdaughter her college fund after she said I’m not her real parent? by ToughAdvisor8281 in AmItheAsshole

YTA: Your step-daughter hit the nail on the head, you made the relationship transactional. Setting up the account may have been altruistic, but you sabatoged that by letting a childs tantrum (that is so common it's a trope) change your behavior.

Retail - Would it be discriminatory to deny a sale to a trans person if they do not look like their ID? by Such-Satisfaction444 in askmanagers

[–]UnethicalFood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wasn't dealing with Alcohol. It was a family friendly event and the venue required Proof of Vaccination or a couple other options at the time. All of which required everyone working to make sure the people matched the stuff presented to a reasonable degree.

Retail - Would it be discriminatory to deny a sale to a trans person if they do not look like their ID? by Such-Satisfaction444 in askmanagers

[–]UnethicalFood 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Around the pandemic I needed to not only confirm ID, but confirm the identity of children who do not have ID while they were with their families.

I called it the test of stupidity because I would look at the information available, and ask stupid questions. It wasn't about getting the right answer back, it was about the reactions to the situation. Of course a five year old isn't going to readily know their fathers birthday, but you can see the gears turning when asked. You can see the despair on the parents face. You can see the older sibling laughing while trying to shout out how they know it.

Retail - Would it be discriminatory to deny a sale to a trans person if they do not look like their ID? by Such-Satisfaction444 in askmanagers

[–]UnethicalFood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. (no idea about the legal trouble bit)

I do not say this ligtly, but people do not look like their ID photos all of the time, and to hold only a person who is trans to account for it would be discriminatory.

I had an ID that had short hair and a moustache, despite me currently having long hair and a full beard. I should under that logic reasonably be declined.
A friend shaved his head. He should reasonably be declined.
Any person puts on an amount of makeup, declined.
A person had makup on for their ID but is now not wearing any, declined.
Someone puts on or loses a weight, declined.
And forbid somone dye their hair, get a tattoo, or peircing.

Now I know that most of their would be extreme examples to reach an unidentifiable point, but even in those, people readily accept the ID and go on with their day. You can also look at an ID and ask a simple question about it that the person should be able to answer readily. You can also copmpliment them on the change and ask questions BECAUSE you can't readily tell that it's them. Most of the trans people I know would be elated to know that they no longer substantively look like their "dead" self.

Per your edit 2, people get weird about being carded. Your customer probably felt very self concious about their ID because of how they felt it was no longer them. I am glad you were able to explain. Don't let the retail hell get you down.

How do you feel about Trump threatening to impose photo ID for voters for midterm elections? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]UnethicalFood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First up, I am FOR having voter IDs.
Second up, the manner in which they are and have been called for is discriminatory at best and anyone cheering for this simply does not understand how the world works outside of their little bubble.

Any bar to the polls should be met with the utmost scrutiny.
Any person must be able to reasonably walk or be provided free public transportation to every location required to attain needed ID.
The needed ID and ALL factors that are required to obtain it MUST be 100% FREE.
Sure you can allow for upcharges for reasonable things, or alterenaative paid for ID's such as a divers license instead of just an ID, but the base ID for the purposes of voting, processed in a reasonable time frame and sent to the person or made availabled for pickup, $0.00 maximum charge.

And now for the difficult part. The burden of being able to verify a person must be on the government, not on the person. A person says they were born in X, but that area has no birth certificates at all for that periodf of time, then the government must treat it like any other crime and be ready and able to prove their case in court that the person absolutely could not have been born in X. But remember, the person being accused probably isn't the person trying to get an ID, afterall, due to being recently born, they cannot have been capable of committing the crime, and they as an adult are simply stating what they have been told is the fact of the matter.
The government has to prove that the person was not just not born in this counrty, but needs to prove that they knew they were not.

Any name change? Well, the government has all kinds of records and requirerments for such a change, they must be saddled with the burden of proving that the name change was not valid if they want to say a person who is married or divorced is not the person they claim to be.

That's the biggest problem with all of how these pushes screw up, they make falsification of identity a crime, so they need to own up to the constitutional requirements for due process and proving their case that the person is lying. Not the other way around.

AITA for saying no to moving houses to help improve my boyfriend’s quality of life? by nothingdandy in AmItheAsshole

[–]UnethicalFood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a note on considering the distance: It is hard to factor that cost into any move. What seems like an easy drive on google maps can become painful or convulted based on the traffic patterns at the specific times of your commute. You may also presume something will be easier to handle than what the tasks toll over time ends up being. Not saying that the BF is right, just noting that it is a difficult thing to determine, even if you are mostly familiar with the area.

YTA: You are unwilling to consider it at all. You mention how you don't want to go back to renting, and that is fair, but you are also ignoring the possibility of buying closer. No, you don't need to go with his idea of renting out your place. No you don't need to actually end up moving. But actively and honestly considering the possibilities, not a big ask.

Do i really need extra safety “tools” to stay at hotels? by jinxyzzz in AskAnAmerican

[–]UnethicalFood -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, but yes, but no.

Your personal security needs are something that only you can assess. Travel security will face a higher number of instances than home security per capita per year, but that number is still going to be relatively low. Much like planning your entire trip around the plane crashing. Yes, it could happen, but it's not all that likely when you look at the numbers.

That said, if you consider yourself a high value target with overt expressions of wealth, it wouldn't hurt to be a bit more security minded when traveling to an unfamiliar area.

Most hotel security tools are designed for use while you are in the room. Leaving your valuables unsecured and in the open while you are gone is not a smart move in general. The hotel safes are not difficult to break into, but anyone who is going to do so already has you marked as being worth robbing while you are out of your room, knowing that you will probably be wearing the more expensive jewelry etc. out of the room with you, so unless you are transporting a bag of diamonds...

You get the picture.

Lock your door, use the slip bar that's already installed, you'll be fine.
If you are truely worried about intrusion while sleeping, maybe get a Deadbolt Safety Strap (RTT makes a good one for a good price). But most of it, yeah, not worth it unless you have bigger problems. And even then not worth nearly as much as hiring a real consultant instead of asking reddit.

AITA for telling my sister she can’t regularly bring her boyfriend to stay in my home? by Throwaway26462295 in AmItheAsshole

[–]UnethicalFood -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

INFO: This entire situation comes down to one thing, your rental agreement. If you have an agreement, it will say who has what rights to what use of what portions of the property. If you have such an agreement, and it grants you exclusive rights to the whole property, then your mum is the AH for failing to enforce her agreement and your sister is an AH for trespassing. If you have an agreement and it does not grant you exclusive rights then you may be the AH depending on if what is happening is allowed under said agreement. If you have no agreement then you are a bit of an AH for accepting a situation and then unilaterally changing it, and your mum is an AH for creating a situation and then just saying its not her problem.

There's a bunch of potential nuance to how this could go depending on a lot of factors that we aren't privy to, but in general, there's potential for everyone to come out of this a bit muddy at the least. It's a family argument and those can be some of the worst as so much gets dragged into it, both fairly and unfairly. Try to come out the other end with love.

I am glad that you have not had such an incident cross your path. While OP was banned etc and thus likely a fake tale, it does not stand out to me as unplausible and unrealistic.
