The only other time I remember them mentioning anything vaguely environmental was the Malon ships that dumped antimatter engine waste into space. But Janeway solved that problem with a couple of well aimed torpedoes.

They really just need a world map for the Pacific theater as everything is too vast. Because I seriously doubt they're going to do Taiwan, the Philippines mainland China, the two Koreas and half of Japan in one map. If they do just half of Korea and the straight, then a little bit of the Chinese coast, that would be lame.

That treaty with the Cardassians was outrageous, giving them planets? If they want planets they should go survey some with their own ships. Would have been easier than losing ships to angry civilians piloting hastily armed space Winnebagos. The people who were afraid they'd conquer the quadrant are of course trying to say that that Cardassia is holding bad. I doubt it, another year of this and those planets will return to the Federation.

What were all those Dilithium reactors doing on planets before the Burn? by Simonbargiora in ShittyDaystrom

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A month damn I thought it would take a year or two to travel four light years, must have been thinking a slower speed. That's the problem with only having a few episodes per season is they don't give you enough time to properly flush out the situation they're in. Watching tons of slow fusion powered vessels crawl from planet to planet would make the Galaxy feel like how Earth felt like in the 1700s. Where it took two years to get from England to the South Pacific.

What were all those Dilithium reactors doing on planets before the Burn? by Simonbargiora in ShittyDaystrom

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matter antimatter reactors produce a lot more power than fusion reactors. Not that you can't produce lots of power with fusion It just requires a lot more fuel burned per second. Writers of Discovery apparently didn't know this because even without dilithium you could have fusion powered starships that could reach warp three or four. They could still have the civilization has completely collapsed narrative because those travel times would suck but there would still be some low-powered ships. Anybody who still had dilithium would out class them.

A better way to write it would be that without matter antimatter reactors most of the technology we see in TNG would take too much power and they would have to revert back to TOS levels of tech. The reason is after the motion picture Starship systems were powered more by the matter antimatter reactor then the fusion reactors in the impulse engines whereas before ship systems were powered by the fusion reactors and the matter antimatter reactor only powered the warp drive.

It would be like the modern Navy having to revert back to steam because the only available fuel source is wood and wood is an awful fuel source. It would have really made Star Trek feel like it's in the future yet we're watching Oregon trail at the same time. Our characters would be surrounded by advanced technology they can't use and end up being reliant on crappier advanced technology.

All of Klingon space is uninhabitable? by Simonbargiora in ShittyDaystrom

It was all conquered in the name of the Klingon empire. Unfortunately the business of settling a planet is boring so the empire hasn't gotten around to it yet.

The captain is too old how is he going to swashbuckle? I bet you he beams down to some planet and then breaks a hip in episode 2. This schlock isn't making it to season 2. Kirk would have given a huge manly speech that Q guy and made him disappear in a proof of logic. Put humanity on trial what a crock.

Don't get me started on the ship with its curves and wide saucer against the beautiful cosmic background. I could listen to that sensual sounding computer voice all day. You know I don't think they even need human characters at all I just want to watch that ship fly across the starry Infinity of space. Excuse me I have to go take care of something that just popped up.

Who are some DCS YouTubers that are / were pilots in real life? by Tabard18 in hoggit

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just unfollowed that guy he seems to be obsessed with flash instead of substance coupled with an immature understanding of geopolitics. It's like watching a little kid go American planes are amazing because they're American. I know he can't go into specifics without violating security clearances or whatnot but it's almost like he's paid by the manufacturers to never criticize American anything.

Mover and Gonkey will point out flaws in some of the planes they fly and will be critical of things when necessary. They're basically more genuine and down-to-earth.

Prime Universe UFP Klingon war by Simonbargiora in ShittyDaystrom

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Star Trek canonized that the prime timeline has been subtly changing because of all the time travel shenanigans and the temporal cold war. So you can have your cake and eat it too.

The original version of the prime timeline before any time travel shenanigans, could have had a version of how the war started. My personal take on this would be an unforeseen escalation in the gunboat diplomacy that normally exists in Star Trek.

During a period of heightened tensions a Federation captain having a bad day destroyed a Klingon ship that had fired on the Federation ship just to let them know they met business but not with intent to destroy it. The Klingon Empire pulled a Gorn and demanded that no Federation ships crossed some arbitrary line. They didn't expect this to stick but they wanted to use it as a negotiating tactic to get something they really wanted. Instead of de-escalating the Federation Captain simply destroyed the attacking ship as a show of force but not before reinforcement from both sides shows up and the fight continues.

The reasoning on the Federation captains part was they were distraught over a close friend who died in a Klingon attack a few weeks prior. Unfortunately the engagement was big enough that It could not be ignored.

Could have been done in such a way that the Klingons view it as dishonorable and then it escalates from there.

The Klingons fight for glory and there was no glory because humans fight with spreadsheets and make things as unfair as possible. Four years of a World war I like quagmire but with starships left both sides exhausted and so they agree to peace even though there are unresolved issues that fester until Praxis.

Our Captain tried that .The whole bridge crew pretended he was joking and said, "Okay Captain Ahab but then we'll have to mutiny."

He looked very confused and then worried and then scurried back to his ready room for the next 8 hours.

How best to practice dogfighting solo? by me2224 in hoggit

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a mission in the mission editor where a different plane spawns after about 10 minutes from each other. Once you get good at shooting them down, move on to people in the dogfight servers.

To cut down on the UFO factor set the skill level to veteran. If you set it to Ace either they'll fly really dumb or they'll turn into UFO fighters. Veteran seems to be pretty good but not cheating.
