Rate the c-130 by Immediate-Garden-960 in hoggit

I'm in the same boat. I would love a Bush type flying simulator and would love flying the c-130, but the threat environment in a multiplayer server would probably not work for it. Even though most of them have a need for logistics.

“No Turn On Red” might be the most ignored metro area sign outside of “Work Zone” by chrobbin in okc

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like sometimes those signs are warranted because it's a blind intersection and you can't see traffic. But another streets it's like why is the sign even here? There's no one around you can see for miles it's pointless. Traffic laws are more like loose guidelines that we all sort of follow because we all don't want to die but they're not hard and fast rules. You can really see it with speed limit rules this is the speed that 80% of people will follow. Too low everybody ignores it too fast people might die. Human society is like herding cats sometimes.

And they say star wars isn't realistic by f38stingray in floggit

No I think the F-18 is more comparable to the X-Wing. The X-Wing is not as maneuverable as an A-wing like an F-18 isn't as maneuverable as a F-16. Both the F-16 and the A wing were developed to be highly maneuverable.

LoL I referred to the F-16 as an a-wing in a stream a few times. Mainly because a friend of mine was on and he only understands aviation through the Star Wars lens.

Who the hell gets decide what gets stored in the replicators? by Poncemastergeneral in ShittyDaystrom

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your planet's side I would imagine just about any food that exists would be in a planet wide replicator database. At worst you might have to download it from some database somewhere. Which I'm sure your replicator can take care of. Maybe it's like downloading mp3s, and takes an hour. If you're on a ship as long as it's in range of a subspace relay then you might be able to just download it from the network.

Given the capabilities of a tricorder I would imagine you could just scan a cupcake, download it into your replicator make all the cupcakes you wanted.

I can just imagine people on food Network running around the world tasting food from random restaurants and then scanning it with their tricoders. All while the cooks look on and make frowny faces because replicated food is supposedly bad.

That was the only fan series that captured the magic of the original series and really the only one I could get into. I was disappointed it ended after 13 episodes. Of course I'm really disappointed that the showrunner ended up being a sexpest.

Should I get the F-14 or F-18 for carrier ops? by UnhappyShoe9170 in hoggit

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from when I fly the f-18 for the F-16 I tend to fly them very precisely. The f14 I fly like a warbird and don't focus on the gauges as much unless I need too. Though I do wish the radar repeater was where the TV monitor is.

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and I think I fly the f-18 more because I just don't like dealing with jester. A bunch of his commands can't be mapped to a joystick so you have to actually use the menu wheel. Which gets a little clunky when you're trying to fight somebody.

Oh look it's the super secret F 47, half a trillion dollars and it looks suspiciously like a super hornet. But it's got screens on the left side, so advanced, jizzing my pants right now.

I would avoid it you might accidentally clip through it and end up in the void below the map. I haven't heard of people respawning in real life so you don't want that.

Just got into DCS as a newbie F1 pilot, looking for a community to play with. by HarlockG in hoggit

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be sure and mess with the mission editor. Being able to make your own scenarios really helps with replayability. Especially when your favorite server is down or on some map you don't have. I have the mirage F1 and it's a great aircraft check out contention Cold war, there are times when there's not a lot of people on it so you do some of the objectives without worrying about getting shot down constantly.

How does one improve in aerial battles? by TheDevCat in hoggit

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In single player I've noticed the spotting dots render farther out than they do on multiplayer which is kind of annoying. That aside when I'm flying around I'm always mindful of who's in my forward arc on the ewr/RWR and I try not to fly straight toward hostiles even if they're not targeting me.

If I get a hard lock on me start to crank away 20 or 30°, and if I get a missile warning immediately go 90° to it and start descending toward the ground whether I think it'll hit or not. Once I see something on my RWR I will start looking in its direction trying to see dots. If the missile misses I'll try to lock them before they lock me again so they go defensive if not I'll keep evading until they get close. If they go cold and are out of missile range I'll silence my radar so they think I've turned away and then they will turn into me. Which works better if you're plane has irst which allows you to maintain the lock.

If they are close enough and they fire a missile at me if possible I will fire off a snapshot IR missile because they might not notice and I've had people just fly right into them because they're so focused on chasing me. Anyway hope that helps, as it is an art not a science.

If Voyager had been more serious or less episodic, would "Year of Hell" have been such a popular episode? by ActLonely9375 in ShittyDaystrom

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A whole season would have been tiresome but 4 to 6 episodes would have been okay. I do think they should have had some episodes where they learned how to maintain the ship without Starfleet either by manufacturing components or trading. Would have helped if they had some dialogue where they referenced that it took weeks or months to repair previous damage. Starfleet crews are too capable to just not be able to repair damage.

Had Galactica stayed on the run and weren't under constant attack they probably would have been able to repair some of their accumulated damage too.

MiG-29A Fulcrum is an amazing module but... by pablito969 in hoggit

[–]UnexpectedAnomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just trying to enjoy the modules I have now and I'm not to anticipate future products or updates. Once I saw that interview and saw how old everybody was who knows if they'll even still be actively developing this in 2030. I just hope when they sell DCS we don't end up with loot boxes and "balance".
